Mmmmick 1st Scrog 3 strains 90w LED closet

I just did the dreaded transplant. Started my seeds in 1/2 gallon pots and at 3 weeks they were rootbound like crazy. I am still 2-3 weeks from going to flower so they should have plenty of time to stabilize. I was shocked at how tight the roots were packed in. Next grow I will likely start in 1 gallon pots. I am also a believer in transplanting before flowering if at all possible.

Hi Screwnuts thanks for dropping in and sharing.
How big is your new pot size?

edit: 5 gallon pots, you could grow trees. lol I hope they get that big. (Long as they stay under the lights)

Mmmmick, i started my copycat journal.

I want to veg as short as possible. Do you think a 2gal pot would be ok? A dispensary grower told me its ok with a very short veg time.

Also the final pot is going to be the 2nd transplant. Big mistake?

Hi wifecaretaker, I was getting curious about your progress.
Imo the dispensary grower is giving you good advice. Short veg in 2 gallon pots is probably fine. I dunno if the second transplant being the final pot is an issue. Will you be flowering when you go to the final pot? I guess probably, but you could go to that pot before flowering and just be cautious about watering.
If you link your grow in your sig you'll find more people dropping in to view or advise. Us newbies need all the help we can get, usually.
Congrats on starting your journal, I'll find you and pop in for a visit.
Why do you call it a copycat journal?

edit: I can't find you in a search, can you post the link to your journal?

journals in progress is where its located

I searched all the grow journals areas, must have screwed up my search, I'll have another look.
Ah there you are on the first page, didn't see it last time.
Looks like you are off to a good start, handy access with the wheeled tray. Nice work.

Hey PAcha thanks for the input. Maybe thats my problem, I was doing it wet. But it was a 5 gallon pot and a small rootball. I dunno if it would have stayed together anyway. I was repotting to fix a newbie move with fertilizer spikes.

Just thought I would add my two cents in here. I start out in cups. When growth seems to slow I transplant into 1 gallon containers and always water before I transplant and after. Watering seems to help it all stay in tact. And from there into the ground. I have not noticed any stress on the plants when transfered into bigger pots or even into the ground. Actually I find the opposite the plants seem to explode in growth after transplants. This is just from my limited experience but I really don't see any stress when transplanting. Nice topic seems to get a lot of different techniques and opinions.

Hi sonzor, your input is always welcome. I think my bad experience dealing with a large pot and small rootball
was probably a worst case scenario.
Interesting that your method is wet and PAcha's is dry. Hell maybe I found the only way to screw it up,lol.
I know weedtatsic has the same results as you, after repot his growth takes off.
I appreciate folks adding their opinion and experience on this subject. It makes for a more interesting journal.
It seems a smooth transplant isn't an issue but a botched job can slow things down considerably, or at least in my first grow it did. I would still try to avoid transplanting in flower just to eliminate that possibility, same as I would be less likely to try new nutes in flower. Why introduce risk if not necessary?
I think the biggest difference between my experience and that of others is these other growers are rootbound or close when transplanting therefore their soil mass stays together and induces little if any stress.

Hi Mmmmick I think your Journal is great Man. Lots of good discussions and good info. That's the way its sposed to be.:yummy:

Rambling is great, so don't worry about it. We get to know you better when you do it and for me when I do it, its sometimes like thinking out loud.
Thanks for the good words, same back to you friend.
Happy Days on 420:grinjoint:

Thank you Omm your comments are truly appreciated.
Yeah thats exactly what my ramblings are. Thinking as I post. It amazes me at times how long I'll have a reply window open as I edit over and over again to try to make my point clear. Whether I ever manage to do so is questionable, lol, at least to me. But when I see on screen what I am trying to say, it sometimes clarifies things for me.
Open discussion is what it's all about and these journals are a great source of info and insight into others' methods.

good stuff.:rasta:

A few bud pics. The tops are only a couple of inches long so no huge colas but I wasn't expecting that out of a 90w light. Tops are developing better than my first grow and thats enough to satisfy me at this point. Should be approximately half way now.

I've been a little slack in updating so here we go. 32 days on 12/12

I've got my humidity down to 48-50% temps at 75 degrees and haven't seen any further signs of mould. For now my humidifier is taking up half the closet but I'll be able to move it out soon. Pics may be a little skewed as a result.
Feeding has resumed with Botanicare Pure Blend Pro fruit and flower at 60% and Super Thrive after a couple with water only. Plants are taking water or feed every 2-3 days. Haven't seen any reversal of the yellowing but it appears to have stopped at the fan leaves. Some crispy edges.
The canopy is no longer very even as I have allowed the better developed tops to have their way. I tried to reposition one a couple of days ago and it snapped at a junction point so I'm not doing anything but tucking fan leaves now. The snapped top still had a thin strip holding it to the branch and hasn't faded in any way so I have to assume it is getting nourishment through that thin strip of tissue.

Not much smell to date which is surprising to me, the first grow both plants had strong smell until I repotted in flower. When tucking leaves the smell becomes quite noticeable. A light squeeze at the base of the tops feels tight and sometimes a little sticky, smells great. Trichs showing up on all three strains, heavier on the big bud. LED is at 9" above the tops.
Comments and suggestions are welcome as always.
On to the pics:

nice bro very nice!!!! Makes me want to get a led and do a scrog. Honestly I think that is the most efficient way to get the most out of L.E.D's. So after saying that I must really commend you on your grow..GREAT JOB ON ELEVATING THE BAR AT WHICH LED'S ARE SET AT.

Hi Butcher thanks very much, such comments from a grower of your success really carry some weight with me.
Truly appreciated.
Scrog has got to be good under any light source, really evens out maturation as the buds are all close to the same distance from the light. I'm lovin' it:cool:
