Medical Grow

Hey Doc -
Couple of quick questions. When you received your clones, were they cuttings from their Momma or had they been rooted? If you received them as actual cuttings, how did you root those gals? Did you dip in a clone gel? Into your mini-hempy cups? Did you put them in/under a dome or use an e-z clone?
I cannot afford the e-z clone and am looking for best way to proceed. I've used the e-z cloner before but do not own it. 7" dome on rapid-rooter tray w/ plugs plus clonex gel? Or just go for heating pad, Doc's mini-hempy after using a gel and run humidifiers?

Looking for guidance on this one.

FYI: My 6-girls got flushed out from my bone-headed burn and 4-5 are being incredibly forgiving. I stand guilty in the court of being hasty in my attempt to follow in your steps! I was a weak man in the presence of your pin-up, large-breasted, beautifully budded gals and fell prey to the temptation of the eye-candy I beheld!!

All that being said, things are looking up here, and you and my 'teach' are correct in telling me all will be well.

As Fall approaches the East Coast and temps decline, I send all my best!

Hey WW!
The first batch of clones were put into Oasis cubes, which were in net pots with hydroton all around. They were rooted, but were ugly. Discolored leaves, mites, stunted growth.

Now they are gorgeous, dark green waxy leaves, perfectly formed...really nice plants. These were put into FFOF, OC+ and my pre-plant mix.

The second set of clones were more like vegged plants. They were in soil, and already had established root systems and several sets of nice leaves....very, very healthy.

These went into 3 gallon airpots with the Power Flower organic soil in the bottom, and a peat/coco based organic soil on top. They are also doing really well.

However, the OC+ plants do appear to be healthier....which is really saying something, because the others are really healthy too....and they are definitely larger!

If these organic soil ones don't taste a whole helluva lot better than the OC+ I'll be sticking with OC+ and counting the days till the organic OC+ hits the shelves.

FWIW, I would prefer to grow from seed. I only got clones this run because I was a weeks behind. But seeds are far less hassle than clones, and the plants are much healthier. These damn clones introduced mites into an otherwise pristine grow room. No such problem with seeds.

Oh....the mites are all quite dead. Floramite and 4 NPS did the trick. 3 of the NPS are now back in their plastic bags so I can save them for later, if need be. One remains to kill any eggs that may hatch in spite of the Floramite.

Oh......

I am now officially in the bloom cycle. Switched the timer today.

Here we go.

I'll get some pics this week.

Why is it that everyone else's grows seem to go really fast ;).

Did you ever get any of the organic Dynamite Mater Magic? I've got some, but I haven't used it yet.

It's not prilled, though, so it's more of a slow-release vs controlled-release fert.

I wonder if the the OC organic will be prills or not.

Looking forward to your report on the organic vs OC results.

and some pics ;)

Hey WW, I am currently having great success on my first attempt at cloning using an idea Munki made me aware of. It is a cloner made from plastic bins filled with perlite and a wick. I already had the perlite, 2 small plastic bins and and old sock (wick). So I went to Orange Box and got a can of spray paint (for plastic) and a small jar of el-cheapo rooting powder. Total cost, about 12 bucks. 2-1/2 weeks later and I have a lot of roots at the bottom of the tub. I'll probably put them gently into soil this weekend.

Doc, Thanks for letting me post up this info. It's a good solution for folks who are on a limited budget. Wow, I just realized I haven't posted on this thread until now. I feel like I've been part of the conversation all along. Love watchin' you strut your stuff Doc. I've been watching your handy-work since the start. Big Ups!

Hey SS! Thanks for dropping by.
So far, there isn't any comparison between the OC+ and the organic soil. Both sets of plants are healthy....but the OC+ are much larger and seem to be growing faster.

Of course, that soil also had the pre-plant mix and the weekly mix, so I don't know with all those variables.

I added weekly micronute mix to everything today, and watered with some molasses and some kelp extract stuff.

So, far, I have to say this is my best effort yet....pruning is next on the list.

Oh...soil grows have much more delicious odor than hempy grows.

thanks so much for the kind words and support. I'm learning as I go, and my voracious appetite for all things related to growing is as strong as ever. I can't get through a day without reading some paper or essay about various aspects of growing! I just love this.

I'm trying to figure out how much sulfur I can add to pots to be able to use the well water without diluting it with RO. That would make life much more simple. I don't want to experiment at this juncture, however.

I'm toying with the idea of sending a soil sample and a water sample in and getting a professional opinion.

PotPie --

This is GREAT! Right up my alley (so often self-described as a one-way, dead-end street, but who's to say?) as it addresses the needs of my young ones and respects my current wallet issues.

What a treat to wake up, be drinking my coffee and find these responses. Once I've thoroughly read through the link I'll acknowledge Munki.

This is how life was meant to be -- free exchange of mutually beneficial information for the betterment of our journey.

Much thanks!!!

:amen:

You are so right!
I go on lots of political forums....may favorite are the ultra right-wing forums....I like to spread the message of libertarian thinking around these folks....the majority of whom are the meanest, rudest, nastiest people you could imagine!

Often times, these people just say, "what have you been smoking?" :blunt:
(They can't refute my arguments....I always link to sources....bullet proof)

Then, I come here and everyone is so nice, supportive, caring. It's really amazing!

It might have something to do with the plant.

Indeed, indeed; it just might have something to do w/ our Beloved-Plant...

Kind of gives new meaning to the curse of 'BP' in the Gulf region, don't you think?

You guys got my smile going -- much, much thanks!

Aww, shucks! You guys made my day and put a big smile on my face! :)

Please share any pics of your successes and failures with that wick cloner in that thread. While I started the thread, it is for the community to share what they have done as well.

Great discussions happening here. Great thread Doc!

Lot's of pics to follow in the next post, right below this one.
Below are two pics of my largest, fastest growing plant. It has great structure, everything. It's Jack Herer. SS? Munki?

However, since day 3 under the big light the leaves have been doing this curling up thing like this. the plant is healthy in every way, other than this. Any ideas?

Many pics to follow in next post.

Some pics are lights off....plants are sleeping in those. Others are with the lights on.

Blue Cheese seedling:

I am NOT impressed with Light Warrior. My previous seedlings in my mini-hempy cups were much healthier. Live and learn.

Trainwreck: she perks up beautifully when the lights come on. She's my favorite, such a classic MJ plant.

blackberry Kush in the foreground. You can see the temp/humidity remotes hanging under the canopy, as well as a NPS. I really like these Lumatek lights....definitely bright as hell, with more blue in them than hortilux.

It looks like there is some bleaching....but it's just that the leaves are super waxy and reflect the light

light/heat stress from having the light too close?

Maybe those Lumatek bulbs are bright enough to require more than the usual distance?

I'm picking up a Lumatek 400w HPS bulb on Thursday.

Thanks for jumping in guys....I appreciate it.
I usually have the bulb only a foot or so above the canopy with my old magnetic ballast and Eye Hortilux. Now, it's a good 2 feet about the canopy, and these digital bulbs are REALLY bright. It was doing this even when I dimmed it down to 750 watts.

look like the light might be too close for it.. is it real moist feeling? or dry? do you have a fan blowing between the canopy and the lights?

the leaf feels good, has good color, no bleaching, not dry. I have a fan blowing at the hood, from about 10 feet away. The true canopy temps are 82...perfect for Co2 enrichment.

ya i dont know bro the light should be far enough away.. strange? maybe the digi are that bad ass? never heard of them being that strong.

What ppm is C02 at Doc? Got a second way to measure it other than the new control unit?

the ones on the right look like they get more heat from the inline lights, do you have a helper fan to help suck the hot air out too? plus those airpots dry out fast.

on another note I just got a NPS and my eyes are burning after less than a minute in my grow! throught is sore too. and I only took it part way out of the bag cause my room is only 5x7.

I have a powerful fan pushing cold air through the hoods.....they are cool to the touch. The airpots do dry out fast!

The ones that look ugly are trainwreck clones....they are recovering nicely and will end up being really good plants. The reason they look extra crappy in the pic is because it was lights out, and they were sleeping.

You said the plant looks healthy in every other way, so it will probably work out fine. You may be pushing the plants a bit hard for the current root mass to support. Have you had a significant amount of new growth on this plant since being put under the current light and if so, does this leaf deformity still show on that new growth?

Hmmm, :hmmmm: Hope you are OK. I hope you change your mind on those death traps soon. :skeptical:
