Medical Grow

Awesome info man. I am kind of upset with myself that I just purchased all these GH nutes - I just bought a few gallons of FloraNova Bloom/Grow! Have you ever experimented with the Lucas Formula?

My room is pretty hot though - stays around the 80-85F area so perhaps I shouldn't try this until I can get that under control.

I'll definitely be watching this man. I really dig your work, and your business ideas. I have been telling my friends how soon Marijuana will be very similar to Micro Breweries and fine wineries.

I am hoping to do something similar , and begin my journey in the coming months! I have just graduated from Grad School and decided I would much rather be happy legally growing for my community than be stuck in a cubicle. I have much learning to do, but that is neither here or there...

The classic Lucas Formula uses 2 of the 3 part GH flora series. There was later work with the FloraNova series and it was found that using only FloraNovaBloom (FNB) at 8mL/gal also worked well. Only one part to add, so that is simple. Main issue with the Floranova is the initial mixing of the bottle. Heard that stuff is quite thick and resists blending. The flora series stays dissolved and mixed quite easily. It is also relatively cheap, so I have stuck with them so far.

The grow part of General Hydroponics nutrients has not been shown to be necessary to grow Cannabis.

thanks Munki!

Hey Doc, I just caught up with your newest thread. I must say, there is always awesome info in your journals. :goodjob:

Thanks and .......:welcome:

I'll take some pics tomorrow or Wednesday.
Today I got some very healthy Blackberry Kush clones and some decent Trainwrecks.

The assortment I already have are growing really well and are starting to get healthy! Interestingly, I have some bleaching on a couple leaves, even with the hoods up a good 2 feet. My Hortilux never did this....these Lumateks are supposed to be high par lights, and they seem like that's the case!

I dimmed them down to 750 watts....things should be OK!

Oh....this is interesting. The well water has changed....or maybe we're drawing from a different part of the tank....but the pH has risen since I tested the water, and the TA is pretty high. So.....I'm now diluting it with RO. No big deal.

Pics tomorrow of the next day. The garden is lookin' good!

OK! Things are moving along nicely!
The sickly first batch of clones are getting healthy and are growing. The kids are alright.

The second batch of clones is much healthier, except for the Trainwrecks, which are a bit ragged but will pull through just fine.

I've got a few more coming next week. Also have some good seedlings growing.

Temps, humidity....all of it is perfect. With the help of my engineer grow partner, we have achieved homeostasis in the grow room, with the ability to tweak temps in degree increments and RH in 1 point increments. Pretty amazing.....it's great when people with complimentary skill sets get together.

Here are a few pics....probably won't take this many again. Soon, I hope to learn how to use my camera and focus on frosty colas!

Also, growing from seed is WAY better than from clone....but not necessarily more convenient. In my experience, the plants are much healthier from seed.

All pics taken with the lights out, so the plants are a bit sleepy. They perk right up when the lights come one.

Would you mind explaining a bit how you achieved this?

Every room is unique, but here's how it worked for me:
1.)having 3000 watts means heat and decreased humidity
2.)AC get the heat under control and further decreases humidity
3.)Using an evaporative (swamp) cooler humidifies and cools the room.
4.)Constant fresh air forced into the room through hepa filter under the tables
5.)exhaust fan set to come on when temps exceed 84 at the canopy, and as soon as the lights go off, the exhaust fan runs till the temps hit 70.

So, when the lights come on, temps go up and humidity goes down. If the humidity is too low, the swamp cooler kicks on....the AC keeps the humidity low too, so I can set the swamp cooler to come on at any point from 40 to 60.

Between the AC, lights and swamp cooler, I can control the temps by either turning the AC up or down, and the humidity up or down. I haven't needed the heater yet....but that's also tied in to the controller. If I push buttons on the controller, all the crap we have hooked up to it does it's thing and achieves the temperature I selected!

I had it hooked up with a De-humidifier and a humidifier, trying to find a balance, but my buddy figured it out the way I described above.

So, our night temps are now 70, humidity at 50. Day temps are 82 at the canopy, RH at 55. (had it at 60, lowered it yesterday, to get ready to bloom)

I didn't know you had started a new journal, lol.

I just got caught up.

What a beautiful grow room, and equally beautiful vision for the future of medical marijuana.

Thanks!
I sure wish my clones looked like yours! Some of mine were just barely alive, and they had mites!

Of course, those mites are mostly dead or dying. I relish the idea that they suffer before they die......:) They are the only living creature I hate.

I hate them too, but I do admire their ability to adapt, and their tenacity, as long as they're doing it somewhere other than my grow room, LOL.

I think flies are the most disgusting and annoying creatures on earth, but at least they don't destroy our plants. I won't eat anything they've landed on, however.

Kudos on wrestling your room under control, Doc. ;) Those plants will thank you for it!

I was wondering about that...those lights look pretty close to the tallest, especially. The heat may be ok with the vented hoods, but the process of acclimatization to light (from either low intensity-->high intensity or its reverse) can take weeks and is never 'complete'. If those clones had low-intensity fluorescent lighting for its first stage of life, it makes the job that much harder...easy to get photoinhibition and oxidation like that. If it was me, I'd be inclined to raise the lights up at least another foot+ or so to start - or dim them even further, if possible...and don't reduce the spacing more than 1" or so each day until you get to your 'normal' distance.

I was glad to see Sun getting one of those 220W PL-L Tek lights. Will make the transition that much smoother to both his HPS and LED tents - optimal is still to grow under one light for the whole grow, however.

Only new leaves fully acclimate to changes in lighting - old leaves never do.

(Got some more charts & graphs if you'd like 'em - but you get the point.)

My Insectoid Triumvirate of Evil would have to be cockroaches, mosquitos, and ticks. Spiders, though, I'm rather fond of...they're like guardian angels against the rest of 'em.

Damn!

Did I ever say how much I love growing?
I learn so much on this website, and so interesting!

Lurker: that's exactly what is happening to me.....new leaves look splendid, older leaves never looked too good and have gotten a bit better, but just aren't responding like the new growth.

Also, I just checked on things about an hour ago.....I've still got a few living mites in the mix. Not good. I added another NPS and gave another spray with the floramite. I sprayed very lightly the first time.

I won't use clones from that source again.

I believe the general rule is to expect pests when getting clones from others. Got a tip from a hydro store employee to dip acquired clones in a NEEM oil solution. Completely treat them this way as a preventative measure. I haven't done this myself; wondering if others have here and could share their experience.

My buddy dipped his in a neem mixture.....killed a bunch of 'em.

I'll deal with these mites. I've got an arsenal, and NPS. They're dead.

I spray mine with Avid or Floramite(alternating) and both products wipe out all mites.
