Mars Hydro SP 3000: Just Released! SP 250 & TSL 2000 Comparison Grow

welcome to the 1st run out of my newest kid on the block The Mars SP3000 (full spec and info here Game Changer - Mars Hydro SP 3000 ).
I have been fortunate to have this opportunity to test the light against the well established Mars Sp250 in a comparison grow for Mars. I have donen2 grows with the sp250 and love it . I originally bought 2 Mars TSL 2000's and added the sp250 to increase the canooy size to match my tight space even better. The 1st run out with all 3 lights running, smashed my career best by a whopping 10 ounces !!!!!!. I was stoked and cannot believe that this set up has produced BETTER buds and way more terpenes than my previous HPS, 1200w ,cool tube set up. I ran with HPS for decades and after much deliberation and many conversations with @SmokeSara on the mars forums I switched to the Led side. I have not looked back since and am now learning to use the lights better with each run.
Now that the sp250 is being replaced with the sp3000 , I can try the three lights together in a controlled comparison grow.
I am excited to try the newer tech and spectrum too.
I want to begin with a few invites to the grow as promised and a few familiar friends @SmokeSara @DonkeyDick @Preston9mm @TraLa @BudShark @ProfessorFlora @MrSauga @Pennywise @McRib @Finesse69 @Jack420 @One Of These Days @Camelion @BubbleBucketz @The Celt @MasterTarzan @Virgin Ground @Heavenly Hybrid @Emilya @InTheShed @farside05 @N420 @carcass @Peter Green . No pressure at all to follow along but wanted to at least offer a welcome and invite to this one.
I hope you are all well and sane in these difficult times and that your grows are prospering. Peace and blessings growmies.

Now on with some info.
LIGHTING: 1x Mars sp3000 , 1 x Mars sp250 and 1x Mars Tsl2000. Total draw at socket:850w.

MEDIUM: I will be doing an open and honest grow with no bells and whistles using 2 x 40L NFT trays and 6 x 20L living organic soil pots .

FEED: The feed line is Megacrop/Calmag/silicon for the NFT and plain water with occasional top dressing with appropriate ecothrive amendments like charge , biosys tea and life cycle to boost them, for the LOS pots. I have also ordered some new coco cubes to replace the 1st pots after germination. They are made from coco and contained in a sack to keep it together while they root and eventually start air pruning until up potting. Will be interesting to see how they help with the process for the soil girls.
STRAINS: Having been fortunate to be given some seeds by sweet seeds I chose
3x Red Hot Cookies ,
3x Sweet Amnesia Haze ,
3x Sweet Afghani Delicious(fast version).
I have also decided to run 2x Original Sensible Seeds ,White Critical. ( 2 failed to germinate last run!)
1x Blue Gelato41 X from my stock that is from the mixed up crosses bag. I have no idea what will come up from it but it should be interesting!!!.
This brings me to 12 plants in my 6ft x 6ft space.

THE PLAN: So here's the basic plan. I will be putting 3 of each strain of the sweet seeds under a light each to compare them, 1 sp series light will cover each Nft tank and the TSL 2000 will be covering the middle of the room with 6 20L pots of los. The 3 remaining pots will contain the white critical and my own Cross. My thinking is that each sp will cover their sides very well and still have a fair overlap to share with the tsl in the middle covering 6 under the tsl2000. I have pushed the space to a further 1ft too as I feel they will easily cover it now. The sp250 has a good spread and why I used it in the middle previously so it will be good to see how this new set up works this way round. I am hoping for around 6 weeks from seed germination in veg and average is 8-9 weeks flowering time on the strains. I intend to show if their is a difference between the sp250 and the new replacement for it the sp3000 with its new chips and spectrum. I expect great things from this light. The 6 under the tsl should be productive too if i keep the foliage to a descent amount. Their space is a little wider now to make use of all that overlapped full spectrum goodness.
I will be going with quadlines again as I do love this method for my space but I want to rely the InTheShed method of keeping the 5th node and holding it down. I will also be taking a lesson in defoliation from the master, Preston9mm when I get the chance.

WHERE ARE WE NOW: I am going with the water bath then straight to cube method for germination as I hate handling the seeds if I don't have to. I put all 3 of the new seed strains into cups and decided on the Original white critical and my own gelato X so put those 3 in their own pots of water. While they were bathing in the airing cupboard overnight . I soaked my rooting plugs in boiled tap water for a couple of hours as they had been stored a while. I have use them a lot now and find that if I tip them upside down and use a pencil to drill a decent hole for the seed , i get a better , stress free , ground breaking this way. The plugs can catch on seed husk sometimes and ruin the whole process if not watched.
I checked the seeds at 7 hours and most had sunk their were a few still floating so I pushed them down a little . All but one amnesia haze stayed down and even after another 4 hours the little sod was still swimming. I dropped the 4th seed i had of it for security and then cracked the floater against the side of the cup gently. She sank after about 10 mins. I have now planted all of them into their cubes after they began showing their tap roots a little. I didnt want to wait too long and risk damaging them as they grow out. They are all nicely settled now on a warm propagator until tomorrow when I will be putting them under the new sp3000 on 25% setting until they begin to grow out..

It's a great theme, and I think that's what a lot of people want to see when you're wondering which light to buy for their 2x4 grow area, just look at this thread :hippy:

Great :)

I have the TS 1000 I think it’s called, but as my factory expands I think Im gonna need a bigger tent and light!
Contact me freely if you have any needs:)

This was kind of my thinking. I found it hard to imagine them with plants under before i bought my original set up. A few hiccups thanks to the heatwave but we will win.

Dr. GanjaGranDaddy, sounds good, Did a great job in the Nursery with those little critters. Not a big one, you seem to be good at making the most of what you have at hand, I am sure you will iron out all the rinkles created by this hot humid weather and busy times. Cheers

Thank you. A nice uplifting comment budshark. Think its winter today with blustery showers but summer is now next tues-friday , then we have spring for a week. Bloody English weather haha. Keeps us on our toes. I got busy going through supplies and have now set the germination up again with 8 fast buds fast flowering tester strains , another sweet seeds red hot cookies and sweet afgani delicious then 2 of the original sensible seeds Blck Ghost O.g. Hopefully will end with 12 to run. I put them in water last night and checked a little while back to get them sunk. They all hit bottom no issues and a few have begun the splitting. Plan is to use the cupcakes with coco until ready for their 1st potting ect. Well prepared now though.

Have to adapt in this game. Lol

Ground zero: so here we are again with the freshly opening beans, now safely in their coco cupcakes and all showing signs of tap roots emerging in slight openings which is enough for me to get them in the coco now. I don't like leaving seeds in water as I have drown them before. The 2 survivors , which I did t know had ! , are doink ok and are both sweet amnesias too , full house on the sweet strains if the other 2 pop up now. I had to repot 1 so still not 100% it will come good but the other is opening leaves now.

This was last night before lights off at 6am.
All being well we should see some life in a day or two.

Slowly but surely we are seeing some life appear with 2 hitting the surface before lights off at 12pm.

Another day passes and the wake up is still in process. I am still struggling with 3 who don't want to join the fun at all it seems:rolleyes:
This has to be one of my most difficult germination sessions I have ever had. So far, lost 10 , another 12 planted and still not got 12 usable girls to get working on. Frustrated isn't the word that fits enough !!!.
The only positive so far is the amnesia haze is doing good now. Seeing how compact she looks at present does indicate that she is getting plenty of light at 50% Power and near max height away from them all. No stretching to concern me at all with her. The second one may have took too much in the initial "heavens gate " mass suicide and doesn't seem to been doing anything at all yet.
Now is the finger biting time I hate so much . Waiting while they root up below is so crucial and important and with very little input to add from me , boring . My logic of only ever popping what I need as bit me in the arse yet again.!. I do hate culling healthy seedlings and wasting good genetics but the benefits are often outweighed by the failures and slower germination of second attempts to catch up. With some it doesn't seem to matter too much , the FGS from last grow was 2 weeks behind the rest but caught up in veg. This can happen but often has been the opposite with holding back healthy plants with more lst , creating different sized flowers plants to manage . Using systems that are multi plant adds another restriction to creating of an even canopy. Not being able to raise smaller plants to match the others can drown out the potential they have as with the C Banana and ghost o.g last run. This gives me a target to aim for at least during the veg training. I want to try tomato cages for training this run too if i can incorporate them into the lids of the NFT somehow.

Tot nu toe 10 verloren, nog eens 12 geplant en nog steeds geen 12 bruikbare meisjes om aan te werken. Gefrustreerd is niet het woord dat voldoende past !!!.
[/CITAAT]

Hey bro!

I think your problem is that you are watering your seedlings way to much!...at least thats how it looks like on the picture!
my experience is that seeds pop and roots grow way better when the soil is just slightly moist!
so i think its better to give them tiny bits of water more regulardy so there always a lot of oxigen in the soil as well which the plant needs as much as water and nutriens!

Hope this will solve your problem!
Cheers

The cupcake cases are a great idea! Gives me an idea for a themed bakery.... But the only thing I can bake is myself.

Hard times with the reluctant seeds, GG. What do you think it is?

The set up is looking mighty fine. Those folk at Mars do a grand job, by the looks of things

Light is no doubt more than capable. I did use very old rooting plugs which struggled to keep water well enough( and I left them during heatwave as lights were off. !). I usually just go from packet to plug , no soak and continue moisture until they appear but they keeled over with July 1 healthy 1 of them left. I have drowned seeds a few times leaving them in water too long so tend to get nervous about 24 hours in water to get the tap root out. Hopefully the remaining 3 will show up today or next day or so.
At least 9 for a decent grow minimum , which I have just about.lol.
Thankfully while they settle i don't feel a rush yet. Mrs GG got pissed yesterday with no Yorkshire pudding tin to use and it didn't go well in a dish !!.oops.
Hopefully the cases will make it easier to slide them into blocks . Trying some new coco cubes too. Be good to see the air pruning through coco before needing an up-pot. Drop-and-go , be ideal for a guerilla grow with autos. Thanks for the comments Burdock. Be safe.

Quick update more later. I have now put 3 C Banana by Zamnsia in water to pop. This will hopefully give me enough new seedlings to get on with it. Temps here are low now thankfully.lol
sod the summer I need growing conditions and nature screws them up !... More of an update at lights on at 6pm. Be well

DAY ? 1 ,2 err not sure yet:
The new residents are starting life a little happier than the previous tenants. The Amnesia survivor has got nice and busy with setting up for a bush by the looks of her.

The C Banana are still in their bath , i will leave them another 12 hours before putting them into the coco with the rest.
I hate this part and it is so dull.
I have turned the lighys up to 75% now to ensure no lanky ladies get busy.
