Mars Hydro SP 3000: Just Released! SP 250 & TSL 2000 Comparison Grow

Aloha GGD! Gonna take seat for the show if you don’t mind! Sounds like a killah line up and congrats on the new light!

:passitleft: :passitleft:
Please do sunny. Always a welcome here. I did choose the strains on how much they made me salivate during the search for the run and these did the trick. Lol . I am hoping I can hit the red pheno on the red hot cookies too. Thanks for joining the fun.

Hi G

I’m so excited to have the opportunity to watch your green magic show from beginning to end!

T :circle-of-love:
Hahaha wait till the screw ups start !!!!. Lol
My magic will make Tommy Coopers look like David Copperfield.hahaha
Glad your here T. Will be walking through as i go to keep it practically informative if i can. Sit back and relax , we will be departing shortly. Lol

Thanks for the tag!!! How do you like the newer version? I wanted to wait and grab it myself but I would have needed a couple of them. Instead I went and did a DIY 32 strips total for my 5x8. I see Mars is even adding that feature to their TS-1000 as well. Looks like those dimmers and daisy chains will be extremely helpful.
I hear that one. Thankfully the sp250 is same sized and fits in nicely . I do love the daisy chaining and new add ons too. I already get the feeling I will be adding to it !!!. I am interested to see how wide the canopy can form properly. Mars state 2ft as a standard for both lights but I feel the 250 did way better than 2ft width in both ibhave done with it. Might be a lumen drop at the edge but they still keepnthe buss outside it well fed with light. Strain choice can help but rhey developed really well on the outer edges last run. Do love the solid nugs the series helps create. Have to keep the calmag handy too though , so intense they leech it from the plants a little but a small price to pay for such good spectrums.
Will be trying the dimmer at 25% later to encourage the seeds a little now. Rhanks for the comments

Red Hot Cookies looks intriguing, count me in!
It grabbed me too when I saw the pics. Even without the red pheno it is great genetics backing it up. Fingers crossed. welcome aboard Bubblin.

Hi Emily, great to see you. I agree on the Cookies. Grabbed my attention straight away , sounds like a nice strain even without the colour. I am hoping you can advise on the pots issue as I worry that 20L los won't produce enough nutes for each plant. Have considered multi potting in the 60L ones ( 2 in each). It is tempting to follow your lead on using the soil as a dormant medium and using the Mc for them too.
Yes, I would think too that 20L is not enough room to really get a LOS going well, but I would think that you could easily do TLO if it is properly mineralized. There are so many methods that will work well, I am sure you will figure it out, and like you said, you always have a plan B if the soil gives out. You got this.

Tlo ?. A new one to figure out. Lol . Thanks em. So tempted with the mc easy route all round but bought in the amendments for los now too

TLO (True Living Organics) was coined by The Rev, describing a way to use mineralized soil that was still unsustainable as far as becoming a living organic soil, because of a smaller container size. Rev was able to successfully organically grow in as small as 2gal containers, by regularly throwing living microbes at the soil via specially targeted actively aerated compost teas. I recently replicated this idea without the homemade teas, by using RealGrower's Recharge all through the grow, so I know and now advocate that people should no longer be afraid of organics due to the complexity of maintaining a living soil or producing the microbes yourself.

I am also trying a new method of organic growing, using Geoflora Nutrients, one of our sponsors. I think using products like this it would be possible to get a respectable organic grow, using any old soil. I am going to give it a go, very soon... maybe in the next couple of weeks if my closing goes well, and have my free sample UPSing its way to me right now.

As we often hear around this place... there are a thousand ways to skin a cat.

Makes sense. Kind of keep the herd refreshed with new recruits more regularly. Little like the coco logic but for different reasons and still feeding the soil as such. Will watch the new geo one . Liked their trio. Bet your watching for postie.?.

welcome to the 1st run out of my newest kid on the block The Mars SP3000 (full spec and info here Game Changer - Mars Hydro SP 3000 ).
I have been fortunate to have this opportunity to test the light against the well established Mars Sp250 in a comparison grow for Mars. I have donen2 grows with the sp250 and love it . I originally bought 2 Mars TSL 2000's and added the sp250 to increase the canooy size to match my tight space even better. The 1st run out with all 3 lights running, smashed my career best by a whopping 10 ounces !!!!!!. I was stoked and cannot believe that this set up has produced BETTER buds and way more terpenes than my previous HPS, 1200w ,cool tube set up. I ran with HPS for decades and after much deliberation and many conversations with @SmokeSara on the mars forums I switched to the Led side. I have not looked back since and am now learning to use the lights better with each run.
Now that the sp250 is being replaced with the sp3000 , I can try the three lights together in a controlled comparison grow.
I am excited to try the newer tech and spectrum too.
I want to begin with a few invites to the grow as promised and a few familiar friends @SmokeSara @DonkeyDick @Preston9mm @TraLa @BudShark @ProfessorFlora @MrSauga @Pennywise @McRib @Finesse69 @Jack420 @One Of These Days @Camelion @BubbleBucketz @The Celt @MasterTarzan @Virgin Ground @Heavenly Hybrid @Emilya @InTheShed @farside05 @N420 @carcass @Peter Green . No pressure at all to follow along but wanted to at least offer a welcome and invite to this one.
I hope you are all well and sane in these difficult times and that your grows are prospering. Peace and blessings growmies.

Now on with some info.
LIGHTING: 1x Mars sp3000 , 1 x Mars sp250 and 1x Mars Tsl2000. Total draw at socket:850w.

MEDIUM: I will be doing an open and honest grow with no bells and whistles using 2 x 40L NFT trays and 6 x 20L living organic soil pots .

FEED: The feed line is Megacrop/Calmag/silicon for the NFT and plain water with occasional top dressing with appropriate ecothrive amendments like charge , biosys tea and life cycle to boost them, for the LOS pots. I have also ordered some new coco cubes to replace the 1st pots after germination. They are made from coco and contained in a sack to keep it together while they root and eventually start air pruning until up potting. Will be interesting to see how they help with the process for the soil girls.
STRAINS: Having been fortunate to be given some seeds by sweet seeds I chose
3x Red Hot Cookies ,
3x Sweet Amnesia Haze ,
3x Sweet Afghani Delicious(fast version).
I have also decided to run 2x Original Sensible Seeds ,White Critical. ( 2 failed to germinate last run!)
1x Blue Gelato41 X from my stock that is from the mixed up crosses bag. I have no idea what will come up from it but it should be interesting!!!.
This brings me to 12 plants in my 6ft x 6ft space.

THE PLAN: So here's the basic plan. I will be putting 3 of each strain of the sweet seeds under a light each to compare them, 1 sp series light will cover each Nft tank and the TSL 2000 will be covering the middle of the room with 6 20L pots of los. The 3 remaining pots will contain the white critical and my own Cross. My thinking is that each sp will cover their sides very well and still have a fair overlap to share with the tsl in the middle covering 6 under the tsl2000. I have pushed the space to a further 1ft too as I feel they will easily cover it now. The sp250 has a good spread and why I used it in the middle previously so it will be good to see how this new set up works this way round. I am hoping for around 6 weeks from seed germination in veg and average is 8-9 weeks flowering time on the strains. I intend to show if their is a difference between the sp250 and the new replacement for it the sp3000 with its new chips and spectrum. I expect great things from this light. The 6 under the tsl should be productive too if i keep the foliage to a descent amount. Their space is a little wider now to make use of all that overlapped full spectrum goodness.
I will be going with quadlines again as I do love this method for my space but I want to rely the InTheShed method of keeping the 5th node and holding it down. I will also be taking a lesson in defoliation from the master, Preston9mm when I get the chance.

WHERE ARE WE NOW: I am going with the water bath then straight to cube method for germination as I hate handling the seeds if I don't have to. I put all 3 of the new seed strains into cups and decided on the Original white critical and my own gelato X so put those 3 in their own pots of water. While they were bathing in the airing cupboard overnight . I soaked my rooting plugs in boiled tap water for a couple of hours as they had been stored a while. I have use them a lot now and find that if I tip them upside down and use a pencil to drill a decent hole for the seed , i get a better , stress free , ground breaking this way. The plugs can catch on seed husk sometimes and ruin the whole process if not watched.
I checked the seeds at 7 hours and most had sunk their were a few still floating so I pushed them down a little . All but one amnesia haze stayed down and even after another 4 hours the little sod was still swimming. I dropped the 4th seed i had of it for security and then cracked the floater against the side of the cup gently. She sank after about 10 mins. I have now planted all of them into their cubes after they began showing their tap roots a little. I didnt want to wait too long and risk damaging them as they grow out. They are all nicely settled now on a warm propagator until tomorrow when I will be putting them under the new sp3000 on 25% setting until they begin to grow out..

DAY 3 GERMINATION: Good afternoon all. Hope all is green in your worlds today?. firstly I want to tag @Lewydeville who I missed in my initial post. Sorry lewy..
I have the light set ready and took some pics of the different power settings. My phone tried to balance them but I managed to get all but one "as is".

Controls were simple enough to use and get to amd easy to read too. It does give some very nice light on full power too. Will have to watch for intensity this run
All ready for the fun to begin.
After 3 days we have signs of life happening all over the Nursery. The plugs have let me down big time this run due to my haste. I usually buy fresh ones in to germ but this run I had to use old ones I had in store !!. I am kicking myself now but have to do what is needed to keep things moving.
First awake were 2 of the Afghani delicious who had issues shaking their helmets and trapping in the cube !!!!l( What did I say about these dumb cubes ?. Lol)
I had to go to "Doc McStuffin " mode and got busy separating the husks and then the little membrane that can weld their cotylodons shut occasionally. In desperation they had both shot up higher trying to get light in , by the time I got the husks sorted and cleared their cotys , they were both flopping terribly from the husk weight stress. I decided to get busy with some temp potting rescue to get them supported better and settled. Moving them into the Mars sp3000 was the next plan.

I am hopeful they will get over their stress and the other babies will be OK now under the light at 25% and 25in away. Temps are good at 23°c but I need to keeo a vigil on the props R.h and upcoming babies. I did go through the cubes freeing them up around their seed heads a little too. So folks , that's it for thisnupdate. Fingers tossed for a peaceful night for them tonight. Be safe and well

DAY 3 UPDATE 1.1: 9 Hours is all I dare leave them for so went to give them a night time check. A few more had broke ground thankfully but still have 3 that are sleeping. I again had to helpnthem break the cubes grip and kick the husks as I thinknthe energy wasted trying to free themselves had taken its toll.

All looked fairly OK after so will know more in the morning.

I have put them on cycle for 18 hours daylight starting at 6pm-12pm next day. This should help with heat building up during summertime too. Off during the hottest part of our day here if it is a good day.
The 2 Afghani patients have responded brilliantly after their surgery amd now under the new sp3000 they are recovering very fast !!. New leaves are forming now the cotylodons have been able to open too. Sleep tight growmies.

GERMINATION DAY 4: Good evening Growmies , its day 4 and all is going fairly well. There are still 3 not hitting the surface yet but 2 look possible tomorrow and 1 had to be given a little "crack' to get the tap root out . Not sure how they will do but let's see.
I had to get busy with some more surgery again today and took a few pics to show where the issue was. How I managed to rescue them involved a toothpick and a little water.

. One also had been wrestled flat by the seed helmet not opening enough to give her a chance and was looking very unwell. I managed to release her too but she will be a miraculous recovery if she pulls through !.

I have turned the light up to 50% now to ensure they don't stretch too much as they get settled. Temps are good at 24.3°c as they are using the evening , this has been a relief as we have some very hot days coming. I have opened the lid a little on the propagator as it is a little too wet in there for my liking. I will keep them well moist with regards topping up the wet tissue in the bottom. Fingers crossed that tomorrow will see another three new heasmds pop up.

GERMINATION DAY 5: 6pm lights on seems like waiting forever to arrive.lol
Outside temps were at 31°c here which is so new to us at his kind of heat. Tomorrow is supposed to be as hot too.!!. I am so glad i chose to turn the nights around now. It was stil at 35°c 8n the room and fo make it worse , the girls are in an heated propagator. They did look the worse for wear with one of the amnesia patients really hanging on in their. I removed the lid and have set a small fan to move some air around . The intake is blowing cooler air but hardly enough to cool the whole room. One of the issues of loft growing too. All that trapped heat in the eaves. I do have thermal sheeting to deflect roof tile heat but the attic is like an oven a..d hard to stop the front of 5he tent allowing heat in. Will need some thinking about as summer heats up. They did look a little happier with the lid off before I left them . The supplies arrived too now so I van fhinknabout up potring to their 1st home and try the new coco cubes too. I have alson only bought 3inch rockwool cubes for the nft to see if I can get them rooted up quicker to the mat than the big Hugo ones. Pixs will follow as intey them out too. Peace and blessings

Absolutely incredible lineup of seeds, GG! Congrats on getting that new Mars light. I'm fucking desperate to get my hands on a TS 600. Man that thing would work wonders in my tent. I wish I had one for my current girl as I think it would push her that bit harder.

I'm in for the ride, GG. A big hello from up past the border in Scottyland
