Mars-Hydro LED Grow Light Discussion

Ah, forgot one thing, we will update our mars II series lights to dimmable and adjustable, but the power supply is under studying now, so we are not sure when will come out. new functions always take long time. have a great day all.

Sara,

Some of us would like to control our lights through something like: Milight WiFi Receiver Bridge 3.0 for iPhone, iPad, Android, and PC

The control chips are getting pretty cheap. :) Just wanted to put the idea in your ear.

:Namaste:

That definetly is a nice design I missed that in his video I guess. But i have a blower in my tent so I don't have air that lingers above my lights. But if the fan is a blower and pusher then that does sound solid.

It seems like venting in from one side and out the other is a good design. I have 62F intake air and my roots stay pretty cool unless I circulate warm air from the lights down. I suppose if I had 80F intake air, I'd want all the heat from the lights to vent up and out. It would sure be nice to be able to contain and direct which way the waste heat goes. I'd much prefer a linear flow of waste heat than previous designs where heat flows out all sides and directly back into the intake vents.

We need to get the grow light designers to think in terms of isolating intake and exhaust and moving the heat somewhere useful rather than dissipating the heat by randomly circulating hot air around the lamp chassis.

I'm surprised there are 8, 2U fans. It seems like a retro design to me. Lots of 1980's rack mount computers had banks of small fans to both push and pull air through the chassis. They added a lot of weight and were always really loud. MH must be running these fans pretty slow in their prototype as they were pretty reasonable in the video.

I wonder why they didn't go with one long, linear centrifugal fan. It would be quieter more compact and be able to pump more air through smaller ducts. Unfortunately, they typically don't just bolt on; they have to be designed into the chassis. :peace:

Looking forward to what testers think of the heat/fan setup. I just noticed the fans and vent on sides didn't hear it was pulling and blowing air. I'd be fine w that setup, I could then set my exaust and filter on that side pulling all the air

:goodjob::bravo:

The only thing I have really seen about this light that I would change is that there is no clear cover, or glass over the LED area, and they are just wide open. I hope that changes in the actual production model. Other than that, if it works good, then I'm in. Some people have mentioned an on/off switch and thats a good idea too.

I agree all the way with a glass lens. It is nice to have a cover so if you want to foliar feed it can be cleaned easy. Not to big of a fan of plastic lens, They scratch and there life is not that long..

A removable lens would be nice, but then again could be just more fail spots to worry about. I just like being able to take things apart easily to maintenance myself. But the mars 1600 still looks clean in and out and it's on her 4th month

Great video cofinest! Thumbs up on the switch and lens idea

A removable lens would be nice for sure. If one or more got broke or scratched it would be sweet to just unscrew and put a new one on. Great ideas flowing here.. But I still say glass would be best by far.

This is what I'd like to see. I can fully take off my glass cover to my hood. Has two fail points in each corner.

Hey everyone , I have a question, What do you think is a acceptible time period for waiting for replacement led and diode for my Mars2 light? Still under warranty. Going on 6 weeks, still no parts.

that's not good to hear :lot-o-toke:

lenses significantly alter led intensity. the reflector series has no lenses and angled reflectors around each diode to increase intensity. some companies use a dual lens system which also increases intensity.

We will add one switch on the new light. just watch youtube video Co finest posted., thank you :Namaste:

I couldn't tell, but is this light setup to daisy chain several lights?

If you do add a switch (I don't want one myself), please make sure it is rated to handle the daisy chained load.

This will be a great addition.

Any thoughts or plans to add a vent on top so the hot air can escape out the top instead of the side?

I&I

I don't like vents on top. Things WILL fall inside. If there is a fan there, it can stop the fan. For example, the tail of your ratcheting light hanger can slip into the vent and stop the fans on the reflector series. This happened to me once. I was there and immediately moved the cord, but something could fall into the fan. This could burnt out the light, and maybe worse?

I vote no for top vents. :)

Or just make the vent holes smaller, maybe even a micro screen.

But if u continued reading ud see we discovered that fans blow in and the other 4 blow out. So yes the vent idea has been dust in the wind ;)

I've never had a problem w my Mars 2 fans, my cords are pulled tight and my extra string is rolled and knotted up. I don't have one thing in my controlled environment that could fall in my light. However, hair and dust has always been a concern of mine and I'd like to be able to open my led up easily.

I did read the rest of the discussion.
I was just sharing why I don't like top vents. :)

There is nothing that can fall on mine either. My room is very tidy also. I have both reflector series and Mars II series lights. The time it happened with me was while I adjusting a reflector series light. It just brought my attention to a potential pitfall. I had not noticed the vents were large enough for the cord to fit through. A mesh would solve that as you said. :Namaste:

Like you, my bigger concern is dirt clogging the heatsink's fins. I'd also like to be able to open the light for servicing (vacuum). My room is pretty clean though, so I may only need to do that every couple years. If the lights will last 10 years, I would do it 4 times. I guess a dozen screws is "easy" enough.

Will upgrade kits be available for Mars II owners? I'd like to upgrade my 700 and 900 to be dimmable and adjustable. How about it Sara?
