Calcium and magnesium deficiency due to R/O water.

Let me explain because I feel like a dick and not explain myself. I'm a plumber(well a gas fitter but I know alot about plumbing and water). WATER LOVES MINERALS :theband: When you remove ALL minerals via reverse osmosis.... It's time for the hunt again :theband: Sooooooo.... It will take whatever it can to saturate itself with minerals. Particularly Calcium and magnesium, very available. Water doesn't give a shit about your plant or your ugly spots. So you very well could be right @Pennywise to a point but more likely calcium and magnesium.

Magnus is it possible for you to setup a rain water catching system?
Yes, I think it might be. I'll work on that today.

Sorry I was a bit out of the loop yesterday but had a chance to visit with my dear 94-year old dear friend, Maria. Maria started out as my landlord but quickly became my dearest friend out here. Her kids moved her into the city last year because they were afraid of her being alone out here and I miss my only friend nearby terribly.

Yesterday we had a very good visit but I desperately fear it will be the last time I ever lay eyes on her on this mundane plane. And I find that terribly sad but I suppose that is the circle of life. Anyway, I spent the afternoon with my dear friend yesterday instead of online.

But I will set up that rain catcher system today.

All my best,
~Magnus

Glad you had a nice visit with your friend. I find that genuine ones are few and far between and not easy to come by. It's quality not quantity that's important.
:high-five:
Agreed completely.

We need to disconnect from the net and chill with friends from time to time. Hopefully this isn’t the last time.
Yes, you are so right. I'll go up to see her this morning before she is taken back to the city, but unless she comes out to the farm again this summer, I will be moving about 5bhours away from here and with her being a very frailb94-years old, well, it just doesnt seem likely I will see my friend again. We can still talk on the phone - but it just isnt the same.

Unfortunately.

Hey Ape,

Thanks so much for chiming in. Your explanation makes a lot of sense so today I watered with water from my rain barrel instead, hoping that will help clear up the issue. I believe there is some well water mixed in my rain barrel so I dont know how well this will work.

But it is strange. I've used RO water in numerous grows and never had this problem before. That is what is so confusing.

But I want to invite you to hang out here in my grow journal. I dont have a lot of people signed on and I'd love to hear your opinion on other matters that pop up.

So please know you have been personally invited to stick around.

All my best,
~Magnus

I was just staying quiet... it seemed to me that Pennywise nailed it. :) :goodjob:
Hey Emilya,

Thanks for helping out. I really appreciate input from all members but I really learn so much from some of you expert growers.

Thanks again.

All my best,
~Magnus

What was your pH when you watered?
I discovered last night that either my pH tester is either broken or badly needs to be calibrated yet again but I'm out of the solutions to do it.

So I'm ordering another pH meter today off Amazon. It usually takes about a week to get to me from Amazon. So until then I'm going to have to just hope like hell that my rainwater is a lower pH than my r.o. water but without any means of knowing for sure.

The r.o. water I used to get from Canadian Tire always came in at about 6.0 pH so I hoped that this other r.o. water I've been buying closer to home would be similar. But that is apparently not the case.

And it is soooooo frustrating because these plants seemed to be doing so damned well before this. I'm a little disheartened, actually.

All my best,
~Magnus

So I figured I had better show my plants today. More of them have begun to show signs of the deficiency.

Such a fucking bummer.

Hey, if I added a little bit of lime to their feeding would that help? Lime buffers pH as far as I understand.

Would this be a good idea or would I just be causing myself more problems?

Anyhoo, onto the plants...

So there are all the seedlings. Now let's take a look at the Bubba Kush clones just up spotted the other day. They seem to be liking the new digs!

Cannot upload more than 10 files - oops! Will include #3 in post below...

So there you have them. All my indoor plants. Now that I've got an idea what is happening to them, is it just a case of watering with pH'ed water and nutes and it should take care of itself? I hope so.

Looking forward to what all you have to say.

All my best,
~Magnus

Ok. I've found my 4.0 pH calibration solution but my 7.0 has leaked sometime during the past two years and is, alas, no longer of this material world.

I'm going to have to figure out how to calibrate this thing and maybe just buy some 7 solution rather then a whole new meter.

Are they mostly similar in how you calibrate them, I wonder?

Alm my best,
~Magnus
