Making Your Own Nutrient Concentrates

The ppm of our EC meters and the ppm that HB comes up with don’t seem to match. That’s discussed somewhere near the beginning of the thread. I just use HB to calculate the grams/ml I need based on the targets entered- and other than that ignore what HB says about overall ppm.

I use the ppm my meter gives me as a guide after that. So far the HB mixes have been in line with what I was feeding in the past.

The HB ppm seems to always be lower than what my meter says so I’m assuming either EC is not an accurate way to measure- or there are conductive ingredients in the bottles that aren’t factored in somehow.

Yea thanks man think i've finally made myself a solution for week 4 bloom going to give them the first feed of it once someone tells me she's all good :cheesygrinsmiley:

So if i have a nice ratio of nutes going but the plants aren't liking the total ec do i just dilute that same solution slightly so everything is still the same ratios?
Yes mate. The only thing diluting your mix effects are your micros but as long as it’s not too much you should be right. What is the EC?

I’m curious about that too That’s what I’ve been doing but I’m pretty sure I don’t want to push that dilution thing very far since all elements will be getting diluted equally. My pure sativas normally get fed around 75% levels of what the indicas take. But I suspect I should only be dropping the N levels, and probably P and K- but not everything.

Yeah mate if you can. A different feed for each strain would be great but if you can’t its no biggie. Try not to dilute too much if you can. You guys are rockin the hydrobuddy. I love it when growers take control and give a big “up yours” to the nute company’s. Having some understanding about what you’re feeding your plants just opens up so many more possibilities especially with Skybound sharing his findings to us all. Pretty soon he’s going to nail his formula and right now, that information is worth more than gold. Kudos to Skybound

Thanks bro! I look forward to when hydro growers will communicate across brand names and formulations, and talk elemental PPM. We now have cannabis ranges that are mostly solid, but the more people that learn to count their elements, the more research will get done as people will forever seek to improve something. Back when I was building Skydroponics, right around the time I got my 8 head dosing pumps working, I imagined having concentrates connected to a robot that could access a database for strain specific nutrient profiles, so just like Weasel said, feed for Sativa and feed for Indica.

As to why Hydro Buddy's EC is always less than my TDS meter's EC is because there are other inert elements/compounds/other materials mixed in with our salts that are not tracked with Hydro Buddy. It's my estimation that TDS is 25-50% greater than Hydro Buddy's EC.

CB, that info you shared yesterday has me wanting to ditch Great White due to 2 ingredients. As it is turning out, we can maintain bacteria and fungi in the media and on the roots, but there are a few species than need to be avoided, such as the low P species.

Yep I’m hearing you sky. When I used them I used a bloom booster also. I was probably rocking out 100+ppm of P and the plants just shit themselves with a really low yield so I never used it again. I can honestly say that trichodermia in coco is all you need.

I'm in potted rockwool now, but I assume it's the same situation. I've been contemplating presoaking my RW chunks with fulvic/humic/kelp blend. I mean the RW filters out what I put in the res each week, but I think a lot more in the root zone would be a good thing, make it more organic, but yeah, tricaderma is what I'm thinking of getting next. That shit is expensive. I gotta find a source for Bacillus strains too. That long ass article gave the green light on basically those 2.

I’ve got some questions if I can.
What medium are you growing in?
How often are you feeding?
I'm in coco coir 70/30 perlite mix. Water daily to 10-20% waste and discard. Daytime temps 23 night time 15. water temps 16-18c. My plants are doing great now but they did go thru a high ec week was lucky not to burn them as my ec pen was faulty but bluelab replaced it. That and my out of whack ratio's that nutrifields schedule kindly provided

Good stuff mate! Probably just the initial increase in EC shocked em a bit but it sounds like you’ve got it under control now. Sit back and enjoy the show, your plants will show you what they can do!
Keep an eye on your EC, if they start struggling lower it but once a day fertigating they should be fine. You probably should be fertigating twice a day because as water evaporates from the coco it lifts the EC in the medium. Frequent fertigating keeps the EC in check. If you decide to do that I’d be looking at an EC of 1.3 max but if they look fine and feeding well keep it as it is

Yep my findings exactly sky. There’s reams of great info on that site. See what you can find through the agri or greenhouse supply sites. They do the best and most cost effective bennies.
That’s the one I use

I just recently set up my own watering system with a timer ect so i can finally do more than once a day, hours on are 8pm-8am so i only have a few hours between lights on and sleep for work made it hard to water more than once.
