Magnus8's Coco Coir Big Bud & Pineapple Express, First Grow Ever! Grow Journal

Re: Magnus8's - Coco Coir - Big Bud & Pineapple Express - First Grow Ever! - Grow Jou

Well, you know anyone that quotes Margaret Laurence in their signature line has to be a pretty good book person.

I prefer physical books over e-books although that said, I sometimes take a book out of the library in both formats so that if I'm not sleeping at night, I can read it on my phone.

I don't currently have an e-book reader that will allow me to upload books so adding new ones isn't on the horizon in the near future.

You know you can always download the ebook readers in major formats like Kindle on your computer and then you can read, say, kindle books on your computer. For example, I have a physical Kindle, but my wife-bot has the Kindle reader on her computer so that she can read the books I purchase on her computer, too, or ones she purchases. Just a thought. I'm sure you can get other readers the same way.

Thanks for catching that, HashGirl. I se e you, too, enjoy a good yarn!

I'm beginning to enjoy your company more and more, HashGirl! Maybe it's too bad we're both married; this could be the start of a ticklingly funny all-public internet affair! hahahaha (now don't take that the wrong way!)

Re: Magnus8's - Coco Coir - Big Bud & Pineapple Express - First Grow Ever! - Grow Jou

I've decided I may scrap the scrog.

(Alliteration is where it's at, baby! Scrap the scrog, scrap the scrog, scrap the scrog...)

I want to set up a perpetual harvest.

So I need to have 3 continuously running stations.
1) Seeding/cloning
2) Vegetative
3) Flowering
(Check! I've got my closet with the 600w LED, my 5x5 tent with my newly ordered 1000w LED -- did I mention that I ordered it yesterday?, and I can easily set up a smallish seeding/cloning station on my shelves. Do I have my three stations? Check!)

I have numerous strains going through vegetative station into flowering on approximately 1-2 plants every 2 weeks rotation.

I have numerous strains flowering in my tent at any one time. These strains become ready to harvest at various times throughout the system, but at an approximate rate at about 2 plants harvested every 2 weeks or so.

I take clones or plant seeds at such a rate as to support the above system at all times.

I don't have many plants per se in any one station at any one time, necessarily.

No scrog, but LST and topping, fimming and whatnot to increase yields.

Each individual plant is raised and lowered into the air because it sits on top of a tower of tiles. The light remains at a constant height; the plants move according to their requirements.

This whole system supports harvesting approximately 2 plants every 2 weeks.

Each plant yields approximately 3 - 4 ounces.

You do the math... I can't. The numbers are too boggling.

I have to thank SuperGroomer for turning me on to this system. It's close to what he does. I think it's brilliant.

Sit back. Enjoy a smoke for all your hard work. What to do with all the extra weed? Uh, oh, I dunno. But I'm sure I could figure out SOMEthing to do to get rid of it... Man, I sure could use a new computer. And stereo. And... hahahaha. I don't know what I'd do with it, but it sure as hell wouldn't be wasted (pun intended).

Hey sorry man I haven't had a chance to get online to reply today. I work 10 hour days and then hit the gym so sometimes I can't get a reply in for a bit.

I read your whole idea for your perpetual cycle, but now I'm wondering are you still planning on doing the flood and drain method? Because if you're stacking tiles and doing multiple plants on different stages of flowering, it just won't work. The nutrient schedule will also have to be changed based on the current stage of the life cycle. You don't want to be feeding your week 1-2 flowers the same as your week 6-7, you could be using quite a lot of nutrients this way and can become expensive. Definitely keep the idea of collecting all your run off to maximize your supply. I'm super baked and it might be a bit confusing but if you need I can try and explain better. Keep in mind, there will always be issues that arise, plants can get stunted for various reasons, growth can slow, pests can enter the room (ie. thrips, aphids, etc).

What I'm trying to say is you can have a complete drawn out diagram and fully detailed plan, but nature is nature and we are playing god.. so you need to be ok with it all not going correctly and timed out as you planned.

I've had multiple grows under my belt now and every time I say I'm going to do it one way, I end up doing something else. Things come up which you have to deal with and for your first grow I would just suggest you get the basics down first, try not to complicate it with an entire perpetual harvest right away.

As soon as your plants are in veg you can start taking clones from them. I would suggest you keep your 4 plants or whatever it is and veg them for 4-6 weeks, do what you mentioned (top, LST, fim). You don't need to have a scrog if you think it will complicate things and take more time to fill the net. You can use stakes for your branches once they get taller or need support. It works just as good.

The longer you can hold off and veg your plants, the more bud you will get. It's just that simple. So I would take the clones while your plants are in veg, and by the time your other ones are done.. you will be ready to put the clones into flower, take more clones and keep going. Eventually you will find your rhythm and what works best for you.

If you're planning on feeding multiple times a day, then setting up a flood and drain system or DWC / RDWC would be your best option. So the tile thing would not work, unless your using drippers, air pumps, reservoirs, air stones and all that - gets messy. Flood and drain is super simple. I would just keep them in fabric pots in flood trays. Veg 4-6 weeks, take clones, put veg plants into flower, harvest plants, take 2nd round of clones from vegging clone and so on.. clear as mud? you can up your plant size if you want but veg time is important to get the yields you are looking for.

Otherwise you can take 20 clones like me, establish roots in 1 week. Flip to flower and do a sea of green. If I can get 1 oz from 1 plant that's 20oz's in 1 shot. I'm getting close with a 2x4 tent and 1 600w light. So take that under consideration and do what you think will be best for you. Each grow I've done something different or modified a technique I liked slightly. It's all about experimentation but this should get you on the right track.

.....time for a dab .

Re: Magnus8's - Coco Coir - Big Bud & Pineapple Express - First Grow Ever! - Grow Jou

Kush, if you're still around, I HAVE been flicking my plants every time I feed them. Seems to be working. I'm also using a fan. Don't know what's making the change exactly, but they're sure getting stronger. Thanks for that.

Yes! I'm glad you tried it and can see a change. It's really a small thing to do but it helps simulates nature (wind, pests, animal attack) which in turn makes it stronger. it's like that saying what doesn't kill you makes you stronger (or a bad Kelly Clarkson song). The plants love 24/7 fan movement as well, again a nature-like action. They don't like stagnant air

Thank you, Magnus, I'm flattered. My husband might not be but I am.
:thanks:

Yes, I like reading (fiction for the most part) and happen to think there are a lot of really good Canadian authors like Margaret Laurence although I do think Margaret Atwood is over-rated, IMO. Although, that said, I tend to read more contemporary novels especially mysteries and FYI - there are a few really good Canadian mystery writers, too that I've been discovering lately.

And, puns, tongue-in-cheek, slapstick and 5-year-old boy humour crack me up!

Okay, time for my photographic update. Sorry, i'm working from my tablet, so the pics are links you'll have to follow. But man! Have they ever grown in 2 days...

This first pic is of my damaged little BB. After cutting 1/2 of one damaged leaf and another 1/2 of another damaged leaf, she's perked right up. Take a look for your self:

Re: Magnus8's - Coco Coir - Big Bud & Pineapple Express - First Grow Ever! - Grow Jou

I've navigated over to GYO Seedbank and put together my next order. It contains:

Including the free seeds, my cart now has:
Blue Dream
CBD Critical Cure
AK 47
Strawberry Cough
Kali Mist
Cinderella 99

Should be a fun time, eh?

Re: Magnus8's - Coco Coir - Big Bud & Pineapple Express - First Grow Ever! - Grow Jou

I know I posted which seeds I was purchasing above, but the free seeds have changed somewhat and I've added a few seeds, to accomodate my brother in law who has MS. So thhis is my next purchase and I will grow from it (all from GYO):

Blue Dream (2 seeds)
CBD Critical Mass (pack of 3)
CBD OG Kush (2 seeds)
Blue Blood (pack of 3)
AK 47 (1 free seed)
Kali Mist (1 free seed, which sounds like an amazing strain for me)
Cinderella 99 (1 free seed)

If the Kali Mist is as amazing as they say, I'll be cloning that and keeping her grandchildren for years to come!!!

Good wishes to all and to all a good night. Cheerio!

Kush,

You always have such great advice. I was writing that because of some advice from another member who had my best interestsatheart. But I don't think I'm ready for a perpetual harvest cycle just yet. Later. I still like the flood/drain idea, and the simplicity of it. The wife-bot has got it all figuredd out already and is planning on purchassing the needed supplies ffor it come next week when we go into town for my appointment with my drug pusher (that's what I call my new doctor who is going to be putting me on cannabis therapy). So the flood/drain idea is where it stands at this point.

I do want to be taking clones from my girls att multiple points in time, so I dontknow where that leaves me with keeping them under the correct amount of light, though. We'll see, won't we?

Sorry, been sick this week. Just replied. I think your idea rocks, but I've been too tired and ill to read your note properly. It's been all I ccan do just to post the basics. Sorry. Seriously, very sorry not to have replied. Please dont think I've been neglecting you or your ideas. Please don't. Had a bad ccase of the flu, and tried to up my feeding cycle to four times a day, like you do, but it's been too much to handle. May go back to 3 times a day. That was working fine, so don't know why I wanted to go to four, except trying to follow you. But been so ill and tired. You know the flu, when your very skin hurts and your bones hurt and your muscles ache adn all? That's the kind of flu I've had. But please don't think I've been unappreciative of your ideas. And I know you replied a long reply, with a lot of thinking behind it. I know your heart is in the right place and that you've had my best interests at heart. I know that. I've just been neglecting a lot. Besides, I'm working on editing my book now wiwth my editor, and that is taking up a lot of my time, too. Just wore myself out, I guess, and got sick to boot. But I seem to be on the mend, now, and I promise to be more cognizant of what people are trying to do for me and to help me with. On top of it, my back has been giving me a lot of trouble. All in all, I just haven't been at my best, and I'm very sorry for that. I know I shouldn't be neglectful when people are trying to help me out. Sorry if I've hurt your feelings. I never meant to do that.

Bestt,
Magnus.

That all sounds great! Easy is good, trust me.. gives you more time to enjoy your plants! Staring at them and such. actually right before you go into flower, you will usually want to trim all the bush underneath that will not get adequate lighting once the stretch is done. This is a perfect time to take clones because you are already trimming the plant anyways. Trust me that taking clones will not hurt your plant or yield whatsoever. you only need about 8 clones total just in case a couple don't make it.

All good man, I completely understand after reading the reply. Hope you start feeling better soon, I know what it's like to feel exactly how you described and I totally see why now.

I am feeding 4 times a day only because they are in flower now and mid way through. In your stage I would only be feeding 1-2 times a day honestly. 3 times is much too so I would just dial it down to 1-2 times. If once then just really flood them. I don't start watering 3 times a day until I hit late veg or early flower.

But yah it's all good brother just wanted to make sure u didn't miss it by accident, your journal is actually 95% of where I post most. It seems your story has really drawn me in and I just feel like I want to help you succeed as much as you can. Your story of the fentanyl usage and other drugs for your pain is tough to hear. Cannabis will save your life and I wanna help you get those yields you deserve man!

Re: Magnus8's - Coco Coir - Big Bud & Pineapple Express - First Grow Ever! - Grow Jou

been sick with the flu and i hope none of you know what that feels like, but i'm sure you do. but i'm on the mend here and back to posting in my journal. some big changes have happened since I last posted pics on day 22 (it is now day 26). i think my strongest, biggest PE is ready to top!!! but i want your input before i do anythingso drastic, of course.

i've got some pics of her to show you. i don't have any pics of any of my other girls because i'm just too tired.

i read on gr ow we ed ea sy do tc om that you are supposed to top your girls the first time when they have 5 sets of leaves. when they have 5 sets of leaves, you top them back to their third node. everyone agree? i believe i read it in the scrogging blog post that is so good that they have, but i might be mistaken. it may have been on their blog posting on toppingand other forms of training. whatever, it doesn't matter which blog post i read it in.

i'll admit, the topmost leaves (the fifth set) are still kinda small. does this matter? they are certainly there, well formed, alive, sprouted and grown.

so i've got 4 pics to show you and i hope you can see the five full sets of leaves. i am convinced they said to top when there were five sets of leaves and you top back to three. i am sure, convinced, adamant.

so here are the pics:

top view - no pun intended!

so whadda ya think, all? to top or not to top, that is the question.

your answers?:circle-of-love:

Rideouts,

But should I top NOW, or wait for her to get bigger? I can surely top to the fourth node if you feel it is better to do so, but I need to know WHEN to top...
