Re: Magnus8's - Coco Coir - Big Bud & Pineapple Express - First Grow Ever! - Grow Jou
I've decided I may scrap the scrog.
(Alliteration is where it's at, baby! Scrap the scrog, scrap the scrog, scrap the scrog...)
I want to set up a perpetual harvest.
So I need to have 3 continuously running stations.
1) Seeding/cloning
2) Vegetative
3) Flowering
(Check! I've got my closet with the 600w LED, my 5x5 tent with my newly ordered 1000w LED -- did I mention that I ordered it yesterday?, and I can easily set up a smallish seeding/cloning station on my shelves. Do I have my three stations? Check!)
I have numerous strains going through vegetative station into flowering on approximately 1-2 plants every 2 weeks rotation.
I have numerous strains flowering in my tent at any one time. These strains become ready to harvest at various times throughout the system, but at an approximate rate at about 2 plants harvested every 2 weeks or so.
I take clones or plant seeds at such a rate as to support the above system at all times.
I don't have many plants per se in any one station at any one time, necessarily.
No scrog, but LST and topping, fimming and whatnot to increase yields.
Each individual plant is raised and lowered into the air because it sits on top of a tower of tiles. The light remains at a constant height; the plants move according to their requirements.
This whole system supports harvesting approximately 2 plants every 2 weeks.
Each plant yields approximately 3 - 4 ounces.
You do the math... I can't. The numbers are too boggling.
I have to thank SuperGroomer for turning me on to this system. It's close to what he does. I think it's brilliant.
Sit back. Enjoy a smoke for all your hard work. What to do with all the extra weed? Uh, oh, I dunno. But I'm sure I could figure out SOMEthing to do to get rid of it... Man, I sure could use a new computer. And stereo. And... hahahaha. I don't know what I'd do with it, but it sure as hell wouldn't be wasted (pun intended).
Hey sorry man I haven't had a chance to get online to reply today. I work 10 hour days and then hit the gym so sometimes I can't get a reply in for a bit.
I read your whole idea for your perpetual cycle, but now I'm wondering are you still planning on doing the flood and drain method? Because if you're stacking tiles and doing multiple plants on different stages of flowering, it just won't work. The nutrient schedule will also have to be changed based on the current stage of the life cycle. You don't want to be feeding your week 1-2 flowers the same as your week 6-7, you could be using quite a lot of nutrients this way and can become expensive. Definitely keep the idea of collecting all your run off to maximize your supply. I'm super baked and it might be a bit confusing but if you need I can try and explain better. Keep in mind, there will always be issues that arise, plants can get stunted for various reasons, growth can slow, pests can enter the room (ie. thrips, aphids, etc).
What I'm trying to say is you can have a complete drawn out diagram and fully detailed plan, but nature is nature and we are playing god.. so you need to be ok with it all not going correctly and timed out as you planned.
I've had multiple grows under my belt now and every time I say I'm going to do it one way, I end up doing something else. Things come up which you have to deal with and for your first grow I would just suggest you get the basics down first, try not to complicate it with an entire perpetual harvest right away.
As soon as your plants are in veg you can start taking clones from them. I would suggest you keep your 4 plants or whatever it is and veg them for 4-6 weeks, do what you mentioned (top, LST, fim). You don't need to have a scrog if you think it will complicate things and take more time to fill the net. You can use stakes for your branches once they get taller or need support. It works just as good.
The longer you can hold off and veg your plants, the more bud you will get. It's just that simple. So I would take the clones while your plants are in veg, and by the time your other ones are done.. you will be ready to put the clones into flower, take more clones and keep going. Eventually you will find your rhythm and what works best for you.
If you're planning on feeding multiple times a day, then setting up a flood and drain system or DWC / RDWC would be your best option. So the tile thing would not work, unless your using drippers, air pumps, reservoirs, air stones and all that - gets messy. Flood and drain is super simple. I would just keep them in fabric pots in flood trays. Veg 4-6 weeks, take clones, put veg plants into flower, harvest plants, take 2nd round of clones from vegging clone and so on.. clear as mud? you can up your plant size if you want but veg time is important to get the yields you are looking for.
Otherwise you can take 20 clones like me, establish roots in 1 week. Flip to flower and do a sea of green. If I can get 1 oz from 1 plant that's 20oz's in 1 shot. I'm getting close with a 2x4 tent and 1 600w light. So take that under consideration and do what you think will be best for you. Each grow I've done something different or modified a technique I liked slightly. It's all about experimentation but this should get you on the right track.
.....time for a dab .
