Magnus8's Canna Cream, Body Butter & Canna Lotion Study Hall

I haven't used Shea Butter but the beeswax will work (that's all I used to thicken my salve). And all this talk of essential oils...I like mine to smell like dope!

I love the smell of pot but since it's a topical that I wear out in public I figure it's best to be discreet.

which makes me think of a funny story...

We (a couple in our late 50s) went to a birthday party for a good friend who was turning 25 today last night and Felonious had wrapped some foot long joints of Trainwreck as her present and put it in an open-faced box topped with bubble wrap and taped together and then wrapped it and we had it on the party and one of our friends who are in their mid-30s was holding it and started sniffing and said it smelled like cannabis and we thought she meant in the air but we were in a private room at a restaurant because there were about 25 people in total there and several tables and they were tall tables so people were treating it kind of like a bar and going table to table to talk to people especially our friend whose birthday it was (sorry caught carried away there :battingeyelashes:

Anyways, our 35-year-old friend was sniffing and trying and we thought was something in the air but would have been illegal so therefore not likely but she then smelled the present and then she started to laugh and said it's this box.

Hard to mask the scent of good weed! Though I find the smell of my topicals goes away after 10 minutes or so unless u stick your nose in my neck :).

You really have to rely on other people's noses to know if it goes away!

The mammalian brain is constructed to stop smelling a persistent smell, so all smells go away after 10 minutes or so.
There is one popular flower that defies this rule, but if you sit in a room with a very fragrant rose, you will be unable to smell it after a few minutes and smell it later when you are leave the room and come back.

I live with weed smokers and I never smell a thing except the burning tang of fresh smoke :)

Is anyone using a high CBD topical for pain and gaining significant relief? I've been touting high THC, based on patient preferences as reported in clinical experience and what the manufacturers are putting in out there that's working, but now I'm hearing from Martin Lee of Project CBD that CBDa may absorb more easily than CBD and therefore might be more effective in a topical than CBD.

We make the creams primarily for pain relief, and that's what the THC does, but systemically it's CBD that's so effective at clearing the inflammation.

Sometimes the real world experience is different from what the lab work tells us. There's no real data to back up the contentions that CBD is effective against immediate pain, and yet we have stacks of that pesky anecdotal evidence that it does. I'm just wondering if anyone's using a topical with CBD successfully.

After trying the recipe with 60% thc, 40% thca and just a smidgen of cbd to accentuate the lotion, I'm not going to be easily swayed away.

Just last night I mixed up a batch using about 1.3 Oz of thc (decarbed bud), .6 oz. Of tbc-a (bud NOT decarbed, and two hands full of cbd sugarleaves. And guess what. It works like a charm, almost instantly taking away the pain. I love this recipe because it works so well for both my pain and my anxiety.

Best,
Magnus.

I want to thank you for your recipe, Magnus. I have been using it to relieve pains of loved ones and it has convinced several family members that cannabis is more than something that gets you high. We didn't have any bud with cbd, but our next batch will include some, just to compare it to the current batch's effectiveness. We did include both decarbed and cured, un-decarbed bud. We will do that again in the next batch, but it will have a broader profile.

Thanks for the feedback Magnus. I’ve been making mine without worrying about the THCa. The molecule is so aggressively trying to convert to THC that it’d be changed in no time in the tubes I encourage seniors to carry in their pockets or purses.

Creams with the 40% THCa will need to be kept in cool and dark conditions. It’s a winning combination for inflammation though.

I recently had it reinforced that the acid cannabinoids absorb faster through the skin and that b-caryophyllene in particular is a valuable terpene to include in creams. It also goes at inflammation the way CBD will. My Devil’s Carnival pheno has turned out to be the perfect chemovar for pain creams.

Mara Gordon once shared that they’d tested creams high in each cannabinoid in the past and patients overwhelmingly chose the ones made with high THC and minimal CBD.

@Magnus8, are you ready to hit the circuit yet? You start traveling next month, correct? We’re all excited for you. :hugs:

It's going to be a while before I have room to grow my only CBD strain (Barney's CBD Lemon Potion Auto), but when I do I will make a small batch of test oil to compare to my straight THC version. My oil is strictly for pain relief though, not inflammation.

Happy 420 all!

Hi SweetSue,

Hey, thanks for that little vote of confidence; right now I really need it!

The majority of the book tour has been put off due to lack of funding. We are still doing Alberta (my home province) and hopefully both BC and Saskatchewan. If the money comes through, then we will head further east to Ontario and points along the coast and down south. Right now, though, it seems unlikely that we will ever get down east.

I am going to post a video up on Kickstarter [dot] com in order to try to raise some funds. Please, do go take a look for it. It will be posted either under my pseudonym (Darren M. Jorgensen -- Magnus is my middle name, for those who want to know, and it is the name I have always gone by to differentiate me from my father, also named Darren.)

Actually, I will be posting a series of videos up there, all calls for funding for Finding Max promotional exercises. This first one will be to purchase books from the publisher. What? I do not own any of my own books? To learn the saga of THAT one, take a look at the Kickstarter video I am goign to put up there later today or tomorrow... Seriously, it is worth hearing the story.

Other than that, the book marketing and promotions goes well. Finding Max was just uploaded to the famous Reader/Writer social networking mecca, "Goodreads [dot] com. WOW! Was it ever thrilling to see my book listed up there, on a site I have been a member of for quite some time. The cover looks splendid up there, displayed for the world to see.

I am holding some special events once Release Day hits. We are going to be celebrating in our home town of Two Hills on the day the book is released, with our friends from home and those who have supported us throughout the whole time with Finding Max. We will be hosted by Two Hills Trends the day the book is released, 22 May 2018, from 11-4 pm and I will be available to speak about the book, sell and sign copies for any takers. I hope everyone from my book club shows up; that would be at least 9 people!

On 23 May 2018, we will be hosted by the Pure Cafe in Vegreville, Alberta, another town not far from here, from 11-2 pm. I will be doing a reading from the text and selling and signing copies for those who want them. The owner there (whose name I forget) is very personable and has quite a large Facebook following (for Vegreville, at least). He is going to advertise on his Facebook page. We should also be getting some customers from an interview I will be doing with 106.5 FM, a local country station that is well-listened-to in these parts.

The next day, my helper (the wife-bot) has insisted on taking off. So I suppose I am taking the day off, too, by extension.

On Friday evening, then, 25 May 2018, we will be hosted by Audrey's Books in downtown Edmonton, Alberta. We will be signing books from 12-1 pm and then I will be hosting a reading and signing/reception with friends and family here. This is, easily, the best independent bookstore in all of Edmonton.

Then, once this evening is finished, I begin the thrust of the tour that IS set up the next morning when I have to be at an Edmonton Chapters store for 11 a.m. I then have signings booked every single Saturday during the months of June and July -- and even one Thursday night at a Chapters store in West Edmonton Mall!

And besides booking all of this, I have had to design business cards, posters and invitations to the Audreys event. And that does not even BEGIN to scratch the surface on the amount of work I have done researching book bloggers and asking to review Finding Max. It is like pulling a crocodile`s freaking teeth, I tell you! But I am on it! Like a dog on a bone, dammit, I am going to get reviews of Finding Max posted online if it freaking kills me! Actually, I have found four people to review Finding Max so far, but I am definitely looking for more...

I just noticed, the other day at the local library, that someone is starting up a Writing Group here in town. Damn. I wanted to do that. But I gave up on the idea when I realized just how busy I was going to be this year with Finding Max and all. I would even like to join (someone from the library asked me to be a part of it) but I just do not have the time! I have not even been to the last 2 book club meetings because i have been too busy to go. And that is sad, when you do not even have the time to take up your favourite hobbies, like reading, because your writing is getting in the way!

Oh, well. These are the complaints of the well-to-do. I could be harping and complaining that no one wanted to publish Finding Max, now, couldnt I?

what are sugar leaves?

Sugar leaves are really any leaves with trichomes, usually the ones that grow out from the bud and are cut off (and saved) during the trimming process. Some cultivars (aka "strains" ;)) end up with leaves below the buds with trichomes as well. Anything with trichomes is worth saving for the THCa at harvest. Many growers find uses for the regular fan leaves too.
thanks for the info:)...............mf

I dont know why everyone here is so stuck on using beeswax or any other kind of wax for that matter in their oil concoctions. I dont use any. I just have a jar of infused oil I keep in the refrigerator and pull out every evening for my back, my feet and my neck. I just dip my fingers in the thickened oil and spred it into the skin.

Why? You ask me. I will tell you why.

Because any time you spread a wax onto your skin your are spreading a thin barrier across its surface. Thats right. You are providing a barrier to the cannabinoids from entering and soaking into the skin. So, by adding wax to your concoctions you are actually making them weaker in strength.

I have pointed this out before here, but thought it warranted saying again.

Best,
Magnus.

ps - less than a month until Finding Max is released!

This ^^ is why I switched from salve to straight oil. And just as easy to carry in a roll-on applicator. Additionally, I find it less greasy than the salve as it's absorbed into the skin and there's no oily wax left behind. Less staining on my clothes.

Hi Magnus.

Isn't this post (following) by you re beeswax? I'm pretty sure you're the person who said to use beeswax.

re: Magnus8's Canna Cream - Body Butter - & Canna Lotion Study Hall

Hey HashGirl,

Beeswax comes a a rock-hard solid. On very warm days, it might be a little bit softer, but not much. It is very hard to cut and you will dull your sharpest knives doing so. Besides, soap and water will not clean it off your knife. Once you've used a knife on beeswax, you can kiss that knife goodbye/

I always use a hand grater to cut down my beeswax into manageable sized pieces to melt properly. If the chunks are too big, then it will take forever -- for-freaking-ever -- to melt. So, go out and purchase a hand grater from walmart or possibly the dollar store. once you use this grater on your beeswax, it will forever be your beeswax grater, for you will never be able to clean it properly enough for food preparation. So buy a new grater, one of those ones with four sides and four different sized grater possibilities. Use the side that would make nice cheese for the top of a pizza. Grate your beeswax. It will be a real chore and your hands will get sore doing it, but keep it up until you've grated enough to use. Don't bother grating more than you will immediately use because it will just stick together afterwards.

Use a double boiler to melt your beeswax. It is the safest and sanest way to do so. Again, use a double boiler that you will never use for anything else, because you'll never get the leftover beeswax out of it. Melt it that way, stirring almost constantly. Make sure the beeswax never boils. I don't think it will in a double boiler. I don't remember it ever happening to me. And melt your beeswax only until it is completely melted.

When melting, drop a few bits of beeswax into the pot and wait until it melts until adding more. Then add a few more bits. Wait until that melts. Then add some more. Etc. etc. etc. Eventually, it will all melt.

If you think this process is too ornery to actually do, think about the benefits of just melting it. As it melts, and most beautiful aroma will fill the air and suffuse the room. Melting beeswax smells like no other product on the face of this earth. You will fall under a deep spell of love with this beeswax as it melts in your double boiler. It truly is a lovely scent that you won't soon forget.

AHA! Soooooo, you evil HashGirl creature, you think youve caught me in your dastardly web, do you? I haf news for you!

Yes, I do use beeswax -- in other types of formulations. I often use it in lotions and soaps and body butters and such. I do know how to use beeswax, and that quote up top is not an endorsement from me to use beeswax, but instructions on how to do so IF you choose to use beeswax. Yes, beeswax has a lovely smell, but I, for one, dont think it is worth having if it is goign to cut down on the efficacy of the concoction.

And even if I HAD endorsed it, a guy CAN change his mind, you know. Not that that is what happened here...

Best,
Magnus

Hi all,

I was wondering if you lovely people could help me out please...

I'm suffering with what my Doctor says are tension headaches. It's mild to moderate pain but when i get these they can last for literally months without even a days break. The only relief i get is through smoking cannabis and taking bio bombs orally. Thats great for the evenings but i cannot be high whilst at work/day times. I have tried the suppository route with bio bombs but they offer no relief from the headaches.

I'm hoping a topical cream that i can use on the top of my shoulders and neck to hopefully reduce the tension will help. My Doctors answer was to put me on antidepressants... I tossed the prescription in the bin as i walked out .

Any help with an effective recipe would be gratefully received.

Many thanks
Chew

Edit: I have an MB2 if that helps?

The MB2 makes it easier to make large batches, and it sounds like that's just what you'll need Chew. :hugs:

Dave Groomer's basic recipe that calls for 1 gram of decarbed bud for every 30 ml/1oz of chosen oil is my go-to for sheer simplicity. You know to decarb at 110 C for 110 minutes. Grape seed oil is a good oil for skin, but InTheShed has better ideas.

I try to get 2 cups of the infused oil, and once it's strained I add soy wax, which works so much better than beeswax I can't believe I waited so long to order it. 200 grams of soy wax to 2 cups of infused oil. I usually mix up one cup of infused to 100 grams of wax, because it fits nicely into a 2-cup Pyrex.

Then it's a simple matter of melt the wax in the microwave, which takes less than two minutes (usually 90 seconds), add 10 drops of something like lavender oil for every cup of infused oil you mixed with the wax to cover the cannabis smell, and it's ready to put into your storage jars. The daughter and I keep talking about how much better it'd smell with some mint added, but I've yet to try it. Maybe next time I'll have some mint oil on hand.

I keep all extras in the fridge. I fill 4oz canning jars and can't make enough to meet the need. My list of of senior friends is extensive. Lol! Use it frequently. Every time you think a painful thought smear a little on the DMR. Don't question it, just do it. It'll subtly change the way you feel about life. I kid you not Chew. You'll have to trust me on this. :battingeyelashes:

I purchased empty lip gloss holders and fill them too. You have to work fast to get them into the freezer or they leak out before they're set, but once they hit solid you can carry them without worry. I always have one in my jeans pocket when I leave the house. I'm forever offering it to someone in pain.

Someone like you, Chew. You live too far away, so I'm glad we have this friendly neighborhood to meet.

Me too. I would love to pop in and have a smoke with you Sue x

I'll take a look at the soy wax. I did make a topical some time ago and i used beeswax. It was very greasy and it never seemed to soak in properly, it was uncomfortable so i never used it. I hope to avoid that this time round :)
