Lil Neutrino's 2nd Indoor CFL - Bagseed Planted New Year's Eve During the Blue Moon

Re: Lil Neutrino's 2nd Indoor CFL - Bagseed planted New Year's Eve during the blue mo

I dropped by munki's journal per your comments and daaaaaaamn he has some serious sugar frosting going on! I trimmed a few more fan leaves off today and that should be it...I also found another candidate for a clone as it's never going to really produce much where it's located.

I have to rig up a veg cabinet first but I'm wanting to switch her to 12/12 by this weekend. I was aiming for tomorrow but my original veg box isn't too promising as a permanent solution to keep the clones in but will work for a week or so if need be. I fed her some Mexican bat guano tea that I let marinate for 48 hours...two tablespoons of guano and one gallon of distilled water. Had to use some lemon juice to drop the pH to an acceptable level but I got it down to where the run-off from the soil was 6.3. If I said she liked it that would be an understatement! She should have plenty of N for her flowering stretch I think.

Hi Buddy Could you tell me a bit more about the Bat Guano Tea.
How much Guano to water when you make the tea? I have some but no instructions. Thanks.:surf:

G'day OldMedMate, Fancy seeing you here:19;

Here's the lowdown on guano tea from the book I got by Soma from Soma Seeds. Copied from book:
In the third or fourth week of 12/12 I begin to feed the plants guano tea.
Guano is my secret ingredient. One of the main reasons for the success of my cannabis has been feeding with guano. My favorite guano source is Guano Kalong. It is a mix of bat and sea-bird guano with an N-P-K of 2-15-2, this particular one comes from Indonesia. To make the tea I take 3.5 ounces of the dried guano and mix it with 2quarts of hot water stirring till dissolved. I then take 8 ounces(60ml) of the teaand add it to 10 .5 quarts of water and set pH to 6.0. I water the beds with guano tea twice a week, being careful to add it to the soil without getting it on the plant leaves or buds. If your using budswel from The Guano Company mix 1 ounce to 10.5quarts of water and pH to 6.0. Every water. Hope this helps. :thumb::peacetwo:

You and I get around Bro I just copied that to a file for reference, thanks groover.:ganjamon:

An airstone in a bucket with guano is another efficient way to make Guano tea

OMM...note the part above in bold, what kind of bat guano do you have? Mexican bat guano is high in nitrogen which is what I used (10-3-1 iirc) but you don't want to add a bunch of N during flowering...so I'm doing it now just before switching to 12/12 that way it's available for that growth burst. The info that groover posted above is for a specific mix of bat guano and seabird poop that is low in N but high in P to help with flowering.

I just followed RooRMan's bat guano method, I forget where the link is exactly but I think it's in the How To Grow MJ thread in that same subforum. Just scroll down until you hit the organic section where it begins to go over different tea recipes. I just used two tablespoons of guano (his dosage and the amount on the bucket for shrubs was the same...but the bucket doesn't mention how to add it to a tea) and a gallon of water. BUT...per RoorMan's instructions I heated up 3/4 of the gallon first until it was warm to help the guano mix in. After it was mixed I added 1/4 of room temp water (can use cold) and shook it some more. I then let it sit for two days shaking it whenever I would walk by and leaving the cap off while it rested. Before adding it to my plant I checked the pH which was a bit high (7.3 iirc) and added lemon juice to drop it down to 6.3...then just poured it right on in.

I'd like to get some airstones when I have some extra cash...definitely would be better than the hand shaking method!

OMM, try this link...it's not for RoorMan's thread but you can find that one pretty easy with the advanced search feature, just pop in "guano" for the keyword and under user put his name. That should filter it down pretty good for ya!:peacetwo:

Also I did not strain the guano with cheesecloth or anything, just dumped the ground up powder straight in to the water. I had maybe a teaspoon of residue left in the jug after I poured it all out so I'd say that was a pretty good ratio...water could've been a little warmer during the initial mix too.

Hi guys, Using some kind of kelp product will add potassium and magnesium can be added using epsom salts to get the NPK you require.:thumb::peace:

Re: Lil Neutrino's 2nd Indoor CFL - Bagseed planted New Year's Eve during the blue mo

You can get an NPK test kit. If the additives used are from a gardening store they should have an NPK ratio somewhere on the label and you can use them to figure it all out. If your no good at that sort of thing just purchase ferts with the NPK you require. :peace:

Re: Lil Neutrino's 2nd Indoor CFL - Bagseed planted New Year's Eve during the blue mo

Hey Lil N, just remember that an air stone and pump shouldn't cost ya more than $20.(jus for making guano tea). So if you really wanna, and you stumble upon or get your hands on an extra twenty bucks, maybe that could be an option for ya ;)

Re: Lil Neutrino's 2nd Indoor CFL - Bagseed planted New Year's Eve during the blue mo

i was wondering if anyone know if its better to have lots of lower wat CFL's or a few higher watt ones, in terms of heat generation to lumen output?

Thanks...I'll keep that in mind for future reference. Right now I grow so little that buying my nutes is pretty cost effective but it never hurts to know how to mix your own!

That's cheaper than I thought...the hand-shaking method seems to work well but I'm all for even better and easier. I have a ~250GPM water pump (@ 1 foot of head) but that won't work for air...at least not for very long lol. I had bought it with the intent of making a small fountain at my old house but then stuff happened and I wound up moving across a few states and nowhere to use it now.

How many lumens are you aiming for? I haven't used anything but 26W bulbs so I really can't comment from personal experience. I would imagine the smaller bulbs would put out more heat due to more surface area and higher output. If you haven't yet try posting this over in Roseman's CFL Tutorial thread in the "Cabinets" forum...if he doesn't know someone else will.

Re: Lil Neutrino's 2nd Indoor CFL - Bagseed planted New Year's Eve during the blue mo

I am supposed to be flipping the lights to 12/12 this weekend but I'm still in a bind for a veg cabinet. I've been a bit depressed this week (mostly due to unemployment and the financial woes that come with it) and busy with other things around the home and haven't messed with it. Looks like I'm just gonna have to rig ANYTHING up in my old temp cabinet to get the clones out of the big cabinet. It's just an old storage chest with the flip latches like you find in grandma's attic that I converted but I don't like how I cut the intake and exhaust ports. Plus I gotta figure out where the heck to put it as it is hardly light-proof and thus can't be in my living room if company comes by. Guess I should avoid the video games tonight until I figure that out! ;)

I'll post some pics tonight maybe, I've been taking them just haven't felt like resizing and posting them. Fear not, everybody is healthy save for the little clone that I said wasn't doing too good. It got yanked yesterday, looked like the stem had begun to rot and mold. The other three are ok but the smallest really has me wondering if it's gonna make it too. The largest isn't showing roots yet and Tuesday will be two weeks but it is sucking the moisture out of the plug with much gusto. I have to moisten it at least once a day and have begun to cut way back on misting it. The second biggest is following in the same footsteps but isn't quite so plug thirsty.

Speaking of clones I need to put those two I cut the other day in some plugs, they've been doing ok in a glass of water but one is starting to lose some green color and turn very pale green...

Re: Lil Neutrino's 2nd Indoor CFL - Bagseed planted New Year's Eve during the blue mo

Times are tough bro, I feel ya. I just don't know how or where the next job will happen..

I never had a successful clone, but I think the next time I take cuttings I will just put them in about a quarter inch of water to root them like my grandma used to..

Keep your self busy and get the cab in working order so you can grow on, I started some pepper and tomatoes with my kids, they are just popping out now and they are really excited..

Take care brother and Peace out

Re: Lil Neutrino's 2nd Indoor CFL - Bagseed planted New Year's Eve during the blue mo

One thing I miss about where I used to live is that you could grow damn near anything you wanted to...subtropical :) I miss my hot peppers, I had a huge list of what I was gonna grow last summer before decided to uproot to a colder, but more hospitable environment. Thanks man!

Been working on the veg cabinet off and on this evening, mostly wandering around looking for stuff and getting sidetracked finding stuff I haven't seen in a while lol. I forgot how to switch to 12/12 and just jumped on to refresh my memory, couldn't remember if I just did it after my dark period last time or if I put them in the dark for 24 hours first...good thing I kept a journal! Now I just have to read through my rambles :p

.

You can use the water pump to mix your tea. Just cut the head down a little and put it in your bucket and fill to just below the head. The pump should have some kind of adjustable restrictor to control the flow. As the water moves around it constantly brings "new water" in contact with the air, therefore oxygenating the water.:thumb::Same principal as a running stream keeping water fresh and drinkable.:thumb::peace:
