Life In The Day Of A Coco Grower

I am thinking of trying 1 plant in coco. Do u have to water daily with coco? I am strictly hempy right now but always like to use some clones to compare and try new methods. Just did the 1st topping after the 3rd node. Might do 1 more cuz I'm running sativa doms (SSH and SLH) and it could get stretchy. Keep up the good work mon. :Rasta:

yes water coco daily 5.8-6.1 ph and just up your ppm as the plants get older i start at about 200 ppm but i use r.o.water and i include calmag .i use a plastic 4 lt water jug with a hole drilled in the lid and i attach a piece of 1/4 tubing into the hole and this gives me a gentle water stream to water my seedlings with , i get the water from my rez witch has a air pump and stone in it , i dont try to mix my nutes in the jug , it is alot harder in a small container to get exact ppm and ph .i use a 35 lt rez and do all the mixing in that .i drilled a whole in the rez and put a garden hose spout on the rez siliconed it in and put a 2 ft piece of hose on the tap end of the spout to get the water in to my 4 lt jug. i can then add a longer piece of hose to the spout later when my plants are in flower and give the coco a really good soaking , this gives me a 20% run off , i have a submersible pump in the rez also for flower to pump the water the longer distance to my tent ,the pump connects to the back side of the spout , i like a good strong run off . the 4 lt jug was just a soft sided jug from walmart nothing special , i found this to work great in coco with small plants so i didnt upset the delicate roots .cloth pots are a must in my mind for coco , so much better air for the roots and they drain really well.. drop me a line if you need help with your coco grow , i have done lots of these , now i am picking penny wise for info on l.o.s soil grow , gotta keep learning ,isnt this a fantastic hobby !!!

I'm currently watering every 3-4 days at the moment at this stage but I did give them a good watering so that there roots could search and use the available water.

I know the rule of thumb is water daily but I did find at this stage it helps with root mass but once they do start drinking that's when I start watering more often, just something that works for me but may not for everyone else's tastes :).

So my Great White arrived and I scraped back the coco until I could see fresh roots and added some to the roots then recovered and again I added more Great White and then topped of with fresh coco but I never watered I just allowed the moisture still left in the coco, when I come to water them on Wednesday/Thurseday I will also add half a scoop of Great White to there feed so at least they will be getting a great boost at this early stage.

Hopefully either this weekend or next I plan to buy my new tent and yes I'm still looking  I will then start installing my screen but I'm unsure of what height to put this act of with it only being a small tent, I'm thinking around 10 -14" above the pot, hopefully I don't get over come with the stretch from flower or I will be taking big clones.

depending on the size of the room you have i ,like working with the 4x4x8 tents and vivosun has one for a good price on amazon and it is a good tent to , i have 2 of them and they havent let me down yet 3 1/2 years later , you want a tent with a good strong steel toothed zipper

i can put 3-4 plants in here and still work around them some what , 3 plants is better when in flower , but i like to grow large size plants , i usually run photo seeds and veg for 75-90 days before the flip to 12-12 but i do alot of trimming and topping to , hope this helps .ps i used the new ts 2000 watt leds from mars in these tents to so very little heat and my fans and filters are outside the tent .

The size of tent you get may depend on your physical condition. I like multiple 2' X 4' tents rather than the larger sizes, as I've got a bad back. The other thing to consider is their height. Five foot tall and shorter tents are good for seedlings, vegging and SCRoGs. You generally lose 12" (30cm) to your containers, and a minimum of 18" (45cm) for the light, and its minimum distance to the canopy. You'll lose another 12" (30cm) if you have a filter above your light. That means that a 5' (150cm) tall tent will have 18"(45cm) to 30" (75cm) for your plants. I prefer the 7' - 8' tall tents, set up for the maximum height I can squeeze into the room.

Wow old salt youdaman , you nailed it , sorry to hear about your back !!

I've been dealing with lower back pain and sciatica for over forty years. It's usually not too bad. An NPIC pain level of 2-3 is my normal. When it flares up, it spikes to an 8 - ouch!

I learned the hard way about tent sizes. I have a 4' X 6' X 6' that I put back in the box after moving the plants around. I should put all of the unused grow equipment on Kijiji. Someone else maybe able to use it.

Hello all :).

The reason for a 2*4 is for my back as the last 4*4 & 4*8 took over my bedroom and I had to crawl in to water them so that's a no go now but the main reason is a 2*4 is a good sized area for projects and tests on yield, plus a 2*4 will fit perfectly in my room and I plan to make a white cover to slip over the face and side so it won't look out of place with my white furniture.

But I do plan on going back to a bigger size tent eventually, once I hit the 25oz target in that size I will then get another 4*8 and try for a 100oz, yes I know it's mad right!

Also means I get to have the small tent until I got that target lol winning either way .

The ones I have seen up to now are only 1.5m tall which isn't enough I need either 1.7-8, I'd also like a one with a viewing window so preventing environment spikes and the smell escaping as that's another one to add to the list I need a 6" Rhino professional filter too as this strain is supposed to really smell!

Gave them a good spraying of nutrients on the top layer, I am also thinking of bottom feeding them for a few weeks to help roots develop in the lower base of the pot.

Looking great and I'm hoping for some great growth, I will trim the 1st node leaf and stem once I top at node 4 so I end up with 8 main stems then I will train them, unsure on whether to top again but I have loads of time till that stage.

Do these look on track for 15 days since them shedding there shell above the jiffy pods.

@Preston9mm I would love your help and advice on this strain as you here it I think, I hope you don't mind me asking :).

These three plants are 17 days old, well that's when they were placed on these pots so for nearly 3 weeks from seed it's not to bad right?

So I have them there first real good watering today, gave them to 1L:

0.3ml Of H&G
1ml Of each A&b
1ml Of B-52
1ml Of Calcium
1 full scoop of Great WhiteL

5L Total, each had 1.5L and 0.7L on the floor of the tent for the base of the pots to soak up what it needed.

There currently starting there 3rd node, so another good 2 weeks or so I will too them, by then they should be rooted in nicely.

I'm using House & Garden Roots Excelurator and Great White, I should get a mass of root, I'm also letting my water sit to allow the chlorine to evaporate.

I don't plan on changing the light for at least 6 weeks, I know they will need another but when the time comes I may also add a 300w cfl.

These three are doing great, I'm not watering daily and I'm also not watering till run off, I will probably water lightly again on Tuesday or maybe Thursday, I find this way helps on improving the root mass, one good watering and let the roots find all the available moisture before watering, never had no root problems, but I have had problems when I water daily at this age till start of middle veg and I need this project to be absolutely perfect.

The temps peaked around 28-30c the past few days so I added my co2 Dispenser so at least there getting more than what they need rather than being under what bishops have.

Anyone have any ideas on what to do for training, it's getting near the time when I can top, because there is three and I need two of them to grow up the side of the tent (2ft side) and the centre remaining plant will need to be scrogged or trained some how, what my question is though for a scrog because it's not actually documented, how many is to many or how many bud sites per square foot are possible?

There leaves are reaching for the light so I'm gathering there happy, I'm hoping I can get the training and canopy filled ready for flipping to flower around 37 days from today, sooner would be a lot better so I could get a harvest dried before march, so my Big question is, should I pop one more seed and add another plant in?, If I were to put another seed in now I would use it as a back up space filler maybe just in case 37 days isn't actually long enough but then my next problem would also be the plant would only be this big like my current 3, I would also need to germinate tonight.

I try to keep it to one cola every 6" X 6" or 15cm X 15cm.

I think that's a fair amount of space to each of them, I'm planning on begging for around another 5 weeks or until my new tent age of screens are full.

The very lowest growth of the plants are growing great this time around, I usually don't use the first node branches as sometimes they never catch up, so I could possibly top this week at the 4th node and train the branches like a clock with 8 main stems all growing with there each space then I could possible too again, screen will be 10" above the coco so hopefully these 5 weeks will be enough.

I need to fill 3 screens, each screen 0.6*0.6m L/W allowing 30cm to go up the tent side, I do plan on putting maybe a piece of mesh or net above the light so I have lots of the points, I was planning on pushing the 1.2m widest sides of the tent out and putting a airflow system so the air blows horizontally and above the screen on 45° vents, the air feed will be less than 4ft of pipe from the window to tent, then try running a 600w hps and see where the temps are sitting, hopefully that will boost yield, the one light means I could allow stretching plants to climb and be supported.

Yeah I was going to go lower but thought if I wanted better airflow it would be best for that little extra room, plus I need to fit 4" piping as my intake going around the base.

I'm going to make my screen out of some old tent frames I have, I recently binned a 2*4 & 4*8 and kept the frame work, it won't be nothing special as the majority of it will be tied together with cable tied as I plan have a 45° angle screen 30cm away from each side so I get around 3 extra imches, nothing much but I also plan to have the screen on the sides too so hopefully I will have every area possible covered :).

I also use 50*50mm nylon mesh, used it on a screen before.

Seeing better growth from day to day, maybe a little to much heat showing in the leaves so I'll change a few things around, the roots are starting to come out of the base of the pot, very nice hairy roots, as I mentioned about watering I think it will be around Wednesday/Thursday till there anywhere near needing a watering.

They have now started producing there 5th node showing the 4th node spots so do you think I should top them now so they have time to recover or should I wait till there a little bigger?
