Let's grow some Weed!

Noooooooo. I just watched those vids. All those lovely tris decimated. I know they can be collected and used. So that machine might be great for pop corn buds or smaller buds, but you will have a tough time convincing me that if I ran a nice 3" bud through that machine that I will end up with the same 3" bud as if I had manicured it by hand.

I hate to be negative, and everyone knows I'm a gadget fiend - but that is just one step away from whacking your bud against the wall.

Edit: If anyone has one, could you post macro shots of the tris before and after you spin it?

I like it where can you buy such a device and about how much does it cost......

I found it at handytrimmer.com but it has an OUCH! pricetag... $699...
Back to scissors for me I guess....
I would happily pay $100 for it...

It processes an ounce of cannabis in an amazing 45 seconds....
I guess if you have a need to process several pounds this would pay for itself jiffy quick in time savings of cutting by hand.

I really would like one for when I finally get a killer crop....
I guess you just can't rent one at the U-Haul tools store.. LOL!

Another trimming device that is pretty neat with a huge price tag is the trimpro automatic. I thought about getting it until I saw the price for a used one was over a grand and a half. I have seen the results from one that is adjusted properly and they trim pretty close.

I could have used one of those today manicured sever lbs of herb....4 hours it took to cut them down trim and hang them.....:nicethread::rollit:

Here is something to what I have. I couldn't for the life of me find the link to the ones I bought. But they are like this only t5 bulbs. dual lights.
Lithonia Lighting Mini Strip 2 Lamp Utility Light - MNS5 2 14 LP at The Home Depot

I think the total output on mine is like 28 watts. Only I added a bulb each from Jolly Green. So they are a little over the rated wattage. 34 now..... I know I'm a baaaaaaaaaad boy.

My next trip to Home Depot I'm gonna be looking for those T5's ....
I like the price!

Nice looking crop there OGD. +Rep!

Do you trim the individual buds later? I always trim out every little bit of leaf and stem and end up with a lot of smaller nugs and mucho trim for kief and oil. In fact I'm going to go whack a couple of smaller plants right now to get a start on some. I want some fresh scissor hash tonight for Lost and Desperate Housewives. lol

:goodjob:

:peace:

Thats funny LabRat ...do you really watch that show? No the trimmer is for people that have way to much money....lol I'm broke just got my herb and the ruff over our heads..
Personal I like the idea of hand manicured bud instead of being beat around in that thing.
You now it has to destroy the outer resin heads....not me...I grow, I trim, and I jar cure...
:cheer:

It looks like it is real nice for those who like to make hash.

Yep. If you had a huge amount of bud. And wanted to use it for the smaller stuff I sould see it if you keep the keif for hash. But I guess even when I had to manicure 18oz at once - that was the largest single session I've had - took me 6 hours and I wish it had been 8. I like looking at every single bud. So I guess I don't have the prob of too much bud. And then I use the small popcorn stuff and other stuff in the bags anyways - so there's basically less trimming than using the machine. And if I want kief it comes from the grinder later.

That Urban Grower guy is all over the place, and he takes you to some cool rooms. But he's ALWAYS grabbing the buds and what not. Again, maybe its cause I don't grow enough to sell or whatever, but I baby my trichomes, not just on the plant, but when I harvest, manicure, dry, cure and store them. I actively work to AVOID doing what that machine does.

I don't mean to rant, but I just got a bag from a friend that has been obviously manicured by a gizmo of some kind, and the number of broken tris is ridiculous. Also, the bud is only 10% amber. So I'm sitting here semi-medicated, and I blame the grower. This is exactly the formula a commercial grower uses. Harvest a few weeks early to get an extra crop per year, and use the automated trimmer and keep the kief.

Oh well, sorry to hit your journal with that - but I believe its up to those of us who have been smoking for 20+ years to maintain the standards - whatever that means.

Amen to that Papa Green, It does seem to trash the outer treks I would never use it, I like hand trimmed buds with just enough leaf to protect the buds....like you said the old standard....

I enjoy reading everyones opinion's... I think the general consensus is that there's nothing like cutting good bud by hand... For $699 I would have to be processing a lot of weed (which I don't) for resale to even consider such a gizmo... I don't fall even remotely close into that demographic category. I think I will continue to cut and trim by hand the few plants a year that I grow... I just wanted to know if there was a better way...... There's apparently no better way than the old fashioned way and that's one snip at a time.

For $699 I'd buy myself a heck of a grow set up and maybe something for the wife so she'd give me more slack! I'm with the rest of you about trimming. I actually enjoy it and if my hands get sore and cramped I take a break. I also cringed when I watched the videos at the way he handles the buds and cannot imagine the damage that he is incurring to the buds in that contraption. Maybe if I had a major operation going on and I didn't give a hoot about the damage (but I would) then fine. When I trim my stuff I'm as gentle as can be. I probably have my little pinky sticking out as though I'm holding a dainty little tea cup or something instead of a bud (I'll have to pay attention the next time).

I bought 2 bulbs from Jolly Green Hydro. They are "grow" bulbs- t5. THEY are WAY brighter than the ones that came with it. But I only use one on each light.
They are higher watt than the original and I don't know about going too over the wattage.

I would guess if you go too over the wattage either the ballast or the bulb will have a short life or will not perform properly. I still haven't made it over to Home depot in the last few days but i do plan on making the trip to check them out. I know I was squinting my eyes looking at the pic you posted... They sure looked really bright.
