SkooterClowns CFL Cabinet Grow

Ironrider, the bulbs we are using are (68w with a claimed Incandescent Equivalent: 300Watt) five of them... 6700k...not the 2700k the smaller ones put out....although I just came across some 200w cfl's with a claim of Incandescent Equivalent: 600 Watts putting out 5000k and giving them some thought......

But those bulbs are 50 bucks a pop and we will only be doing one or two more blooms in this box before we get our real grow room back with a lot more room for much bigger grows....with that we will go back to using our HPS/Metal Halide system and this box will become our clone box/mother keeper (with some changes made to the box of course)..so it's not worth it at this point...

But who knows...still might be worth giving a couple a try...

OK.Update
due to a smoldering fire in one of my bowls I misspoke (typed) last nigh that the CFL's we are using are 6700K....well they are not...after double checking it turns out these are also only 2700k...

Even though they are only 2700K we still don't see a need to change these at this time...But now we will look at these 5000k CFL's I came across a little closer before we decide ..... replacing a couple of the 2700k might be an option as well...if not just for the extra wattage...

We'll keep this updated to any changes we make to the set up....

Back to the grow at hand....and a little about we "dozit"

Things are looking great...using alot of water these days and the buds are starting to fill in....

I mix a 5 gal bucket and fill the 2 1/2 gal tub ...then I use the remainder to top off the tub as needed....when that is used up is when I change my mix....

This is the nute/light info used so far in this grow....

We start our clones in a 1" rockwool with a "clone" mix of the nute system we use, at about 400ppm and also spray the clones until rooted...24hr light

When we see a root is when we put the clones in 3" net cups with Hydroton clay pebbles and into the tub they go....I fill the tub so the water/nute line is about mid way up the net cup.... the clay pebbles along with the airstones bubbles popping keep the rockwool wet ....I use a 800ppm "veg" mix for 2 weeks (give or take a day or two) at a 18/6 light cycle until I see a couple of nice tap roots that have what I call "ladders"..

At this point we change the mix...I use an early bloom mix at 1200-1300ppm and change the light to 12/12 ...I like to let the lights go out and I keep them out for 36hrs or so and then start the first 12 light cycle......

Now's a good time to mention PH...I read somewhere (I think on here somewhere ) that plants in a hydro system take up nutes better in a 5.2-5.8PH solution...So this whole grow i have kept my PH at about 5.5 and I must say I have had no problems as the plants have shown no signs of a nute problem..

So that brings us to now....I changed out the tub again and am now using a mid bloom mix...I'm keeping it at around 1300ppm which leaves a little room in case of a nute spike I don't catch right away...

I should add that I do use a GOOD ppm/ph meter during the grow to keep an eye on the mix..if I see the ppm rising I top off with clear water to bring it back down....this usually only happens in the middle of bloom when the plant seems to drink a lot of water....

Ok..enough of that....I'll post updated pictures in the next day or two....stay tuned..

SK-Slappy....(is it 420 yet:bong:)

Day 19 @ 12/12
The twins are looking great. As you can see things are coming along nicely. No heat issues no nute problems. The bud production is right on course. This grow continues to out pace the last one. Slappy and I have set our expectations on these two as far as our total yield. We dare not say it yet but let's just say it rhymes with Shmuarter Shmound! :rollit:

And they said it couldn't be done! (no I don't know who "they" are) :cough:

Ok ..well they are looking good as you can see in the pictures........no leaves with brown tips.....nice healthy green...temps level during light and drops safely at night....

Just under 1300ppm and a PH of 6.1 although I did set the mix up with a 5.6~5.8 this mix..........

Last mix I set the ph closer to 5.2............

Here's where we need your help.....Upon close look I noticed that a few of the mid level leaves have a few litle brown spots...these leaves all seem to be very similar in size with a darker green color than most of the other leaves and purplish colored stems.....

I cut all the leaves that had spots off (11 of them) and will keep and eye on the plants to see if anything else develops before I do anything else as it doesn't look like it has gottenout of hand......

But what I need to know is does anyone know what is causing .....and how we can stop this from happening again.....

Nute lock out due to too low PH?

anyway.here are some pictures of a couple of the leaves I cut off....sorry you can't see the spots better but if you look close you can see a couple of spots.....

Well I did a switch on the mix and they are looking stellar,,,,,and the buds are realy starting to take on some size. and are starting to fill in......

I haven't seen any more spots so I am going to put it out of my mind .yet still keep a good eye out for any potential problems...........

as it looks we are thinking we might have a nice be bag of Turkey day after dinner/ before desert body slam with this stuff........as sajd..with out jinking it,,,,,.hoping to get some weight over a Mc'd's large burger size........

We are getting excited to get this one done as we have some nice papaya ready to be cloned and bxed up as soon as we get a better idea when these will fininsh...........would love to have enough time to do a white widdow grow after the papaya but we'll have t see how long the papaya takes to finish off........befor we have to shut down for a bit and re tool so we can have some time to set up our old and very well equipt. grow room as well as convert what we have now to a clone/mother chamber..........will be good to be back to growing under normal lights and get some big yelds......wait til you see that journal!

til then stay tuned as the buds will be getting bigger almost daily and I will include pics evey few days for a while til it slows back down a bit.........I will try my best to take the pictures at as close an angle to each othe each time I take them....

Later

24 days @ 12/12
Things are still lookin' good!

A stoner walks into a gas station and asks the dude at the counter, "Got any weed?" The man politely replied, "Um, no sir. We do not sell marijuana here." So he left.
The same guy comes back the next day and says, "Got any weed?" The man behind the counter, although slightly annoyed, patiently replied, "No sir. We don't sell marijuana." So the man went home.

He goes once again to the gas station. And again, he says to the guy working there, "Got any weed?" By this time the other dude was pissed. He yells, "You freakin' refer-lovin', pot-head burn-out! I told you, we don't sell that crap here! If you ever come back in here asking for that filthy crap again, I'll nail your freaking feet to the floor. Got it? Now beat it before I call the cops." So the stoner left.

The next day he went back to the same old place with a dopey smile on his face. He went to the cashier and said, "Got any nails?" The man hesitated, then replied, "um, no sir, we don't sell nails here." The stoner grinned. "Got any weed?"

In reply to what SK clown "stinky" as to say is....got high and couldn't help my self, I had to take more pictures.........

now for your enjoyment........(well in a few weeks mine..but you get to look at it...LOL)

RoorRip (speaking of roor..I gotta be me one of them fine pieces of glass!)

chunking up nicely....still have about 4 more weeks ....

have just been keeping an eye on the ppm (hovering in the 1300ppm range)
and topping off the tub....

We had a sight problem a couple of nights ago where our heater died.....wasn't a big of a deal as it's not too cold here yet so the temp only went down to 72F

Not a big deal, went to the pet store and picked up a new element (Ceramic infrared heat emitter used for reptile tanks) .....I also picked up a spare just in case it happens again I won't be caught without it late some sat night

This heater is used along with a Herpastat that is set at 80F....this is really cool as it adjusts the output of the heating element so as it nears 80F it starts to lower the power to the element as it gets cooler it increases the power....this really helps in not getting a "hot spot" or drastic temp drops or spikes....great piece of equipment!

The normal night temp is around 75F-78F........I don't have it set for a night drop but with the lights out the temp does seem to drop, maybe because I have the heater near the bottom of the box and the exhaust fan on 24hrs.....

I do monitor the temp both at the top and bottom of the box and try to keep it as balanced as possible .....

because I like to see pictures in journals when I go to check them out....here are a few more :bong:

Ok here we are the start of week 6 of bloom.......the girls are starting to show their age....larger fan leaves are starting to turn as all her energy is going to the buds...We're in a full bloom mix now with a 1200-1300ppm.....

I'm keeping an eye on the humidity to make sure we don't get a mold problem.

They are really starting to get frosty now.......

November 14, 2009 Day 42 @ 12/12

Thoughts and comments welcome

Thanks TW & Spike.

On day 42 @ 12/12 (when those pictures were taken) we decided, for the first time, to add a couple of supplements to the water.

We added General Hydroponics' Floralicious Plus & Kool Bloom. After a couple of days Slappy is tellin' me that the buds are swelling noticeably. Either from natural development and/or the supplements we are very happy with the changes.

More pictures to come to soon.
