Lady Cannafan Shrooming Midwest Grow Kits & Spore Genetics - APE, Blue Meanie & More

Do you notice any changes to the potency after drying compared with the fresh ones? CL🍀. :thanks:
Fresh ones are definitely more potent. I never seem to harvest them when Im ready for a dose lol.

Heres the 3 tiered rack, its missing a few nuts lol. Then the rack fits right in the convection dryer. When the orange dessicant turns brown I put them on a cookie sheet and stick them in the oven at 250° until they turn orange again . Usually about 1 hour.

Where do you buy that orange desiccant? I have the desiccant packs, but I want to buy it like you have it in that photo.

Be sure to NOT use the blue desiccant beads. They contain trace amounts of toxic Cobalt Chloride. Amazon has the safe orange beads. Search:

Dry & Dry" [1 Quart Premium Orange Indicating Silica Gel Desiccant Beads(Industry Standard 3-5 mm) - Rechargeable Silica Gel Beads(2 LBS)

Good call Beccabuds! Even the orange ones say do not let them touch food. I have eaten a bunch of dried shroomz done with the orange dessicant beads and I'm ok lol.

@BeccaBuds mentioned in her thread that the labels on the @Spore Genetics syringes smeared during her sanitizing prep. The same thing happened to me on my first inoculation. I had wiped down my gloves with iso alcohol and picked up the syringe, which smeared the label.
I will need to permanent marker those syringes, or maybe use a strip of clear tape over the label.

This morning I got only a few small Blue Meanies from the cakes. Looks like they aren't going to produce much more, so I'm thinking I need to soak them again for the 23 hours and put them back into the chamber. The instructions aren't real clear on this, but that's what I'm reading that as.
Any thoughts?

BTW, I converted an old Nesco food dehydrator to a heatless by taking it apart and removing the heating element. Now it just blows air. I'm not suggesting anyone else do this unless you know exactly what you are doing. I had to cut some wires and rearrange them, which I am familiar with doing.

So, just letting you know that in the Midwest Grow Kit Mushroom growing guide, under (Slow drying methods), it says:
"IF the dehydrator doesn't have a switch for turning off the heat, you will need to take it apart and disconnect the heating element, making sure to take any necessary safety precautions."

Please don't do this unless you know what you're doing.

Hey LC, how are you?

If you’re preparing for the next flush then I normally dunk and roll again in verm. Think I said before it plugs any gaps that might have occurred through picking and will help the cake from becoming completely sodden.

How have your yields been so far?

Thanks Joe! Hope you are doing well!
The yields on the Blue Meanies have been pretty good, the Tidal Wave only gave me a half dozen or so.
I haven't weighed anything up yet. The substrate jars that are still waiting for full mycelium growth in the shroom house are still going pretty slowly. The heat and humidity in there is the same as it was for the jar cakes in the fruiting chamber, they are just going slooooowwww.
I'm thinking when I do the next 6 jars I will use just a little more of the spore solution than I did on the first round. There are two strains that I have gotten nothing from yet with the jars.
I'll be doing a complete check on things this afternoon, and will weigh up the dried Blue Meanies.:thumb:

UPDATE: 11-24-23
Out of the 12 jars I inoculated:

3 jars were the Panaeolus Cyanescens Estero: All three jars are contaminated

3 jars were Albino Penis Envy (APE): Still in the mycelium growth phase

3 jars were Tidal Wave: 1 jar was contaminated, 2 jars giving small amounts of fruit.

3 jars were Blue Meanie: All three jars bearing fruits.

2 all in one bags still growing mycelium and waiting to be mixed up.

1 All in one bag mixed and about 4 days to go to start exposing it to light.

Let's hope I get a better return on the PCE when I do the next jars. Every one of those contaminated.

Update: All of the cakes are now soaking in the 2nd dunk. They were pretty lightweight, so I think they were getting dried out. I soaked down the layer of perlite with a mister bottle, so when I put them back in the tub they should have plenty of moisture again.
The instructions suggest putting them in the refrigerator during the 2nd dunk, supposedly the cold will help shock them into reproducing. We'll see.
