Keffka's Recycling, KOS Blue Thai, Herbies Seeds Apple Betty, Runtz Punch

Gonna leave everyone alone tonight. Got some more light pruning to do then will flip to flower tomorrow.

They are going to be beasts once they stretch out!

I’m giving them the most amount of space I can to stretch, and keeping them as low as possible. This should give them at least 4 feet of pure budding space. I’ve basically kept them horizontal the entire Veg and will let them run up for stretch.

How tall are they from the soil Keff?

They’re varied and growing each day, I’ll get measurements tonight but I’d say anywhere from 8 to 12 inches off the soil.

4 inches, 8 inches, 10 inches and 12 inches.

The Blue Thais are very obviously stronger genetics that prefer the mix. They’re bigger, thicker, stronger, healthier and more colorful than the other two even though the other two were healthier sprouts

Everyone looks great, I’m not gonna do anything tonight.

The calcium from the fish bone meal and EWC opened the soil up on these two and lit up some N while it did it, you can see the curving of these leaves

It’ll settle down a bit as the rush of oxygen eases but there will likely always be a reminder on these leaves.

I have a feeling my magnesium is a little high in the mix, causing this caking. I’ll either leave it out during the recycle or lower the amount

I noticed a while ago that the above ground tree roots that run across our easement looked just like regular roots that had been exposed to air and light. This made me think and so on this grow with a couple of the plants I pulled some of the roots out a little bit above the surface to see if I was right. Sure enough their roots started to harden and become the same color and consistency as the main stem. Then I saw the bonsai plant today and it all hit me at once 😂 Some times I amaze myself with all the advanced stuff I know, but took almost 40 years to realize above ground tree roots were actually regular roots at one time 🤣

The plan for next grow is to form a root ball in a solo cup during seedling. When it’s ready for transplant I am gonna wash all of the dirt out and off of the roots and lay them over the top of a rock spread out. This should give me those nice wooden roots that look like a tree.

I’m still thinking about how I will keep the plant propped up, and how I’m gonna get it to survive having its root system exposed.
Id use a coloured solo cup upside-down height trimmed if needed with a cut up the side and hole in the top for plant to poke out ,to let the plant get established from the shock of the transplant before you expose roots to the light .
That bonsai was cool

You will need that mag in flower Keff, just keep adding the calcium to keep the mag in check. If you have to crumble the caking thats ok. Just manage it and keep the soil open up top, it should work itself out. She will need it in stretch when most mag defs show up. Go into the soil 2 knuckles deep, gently of course, and bust the caking up. Poke around, you will find it. Its usually cakier closer to the trunk and disipates as you move outwards to the pots edges. You dont have to fully crumble it if you think that will harm roots, but busting it up gets calcium in better to neutralize mags lock.

I'm late to the party 😊

This is brilliant! This alleviates multiple concerns I had. I’ll definitely be giving this method a shot, thanks!

Yep, explained it almost to the letter lol. I had to go down to in between my 2nd and 3rd knuckle. I had to almost hook my fingertip into it and pull the cake pieces up but you could feel just below that spot it opened up. Once I did that, crumbled it all up, put down the fish bone meal, then watered it in and the soil has since stayed light and fluffy for me. I give it the scratch test every night at lights on just looking for any cakey areas.

I noticed it likes to cake a lot by the trunk then again around the edges of the pot as well. Being in a fabric pot helps stop it from suffocating the grow but when it cakes like that it makes it almost impossible to water the container thoroughly. Luckily since everyone had been transplanted within the last 3 weeks I had no problem digging down. I pulled a few roots up by accident but you can quickly tell the difference between roots and caking.

You are welcome, I haven't tried it myself but don't see why it wouldn't work

The crusties at the edge of the pot I find are harder to deal with. The best way I have found is to gently set the entire rootball in a tub of water and hold it upright until it slowly sinks to the bottom as it absorbs water.

Fill the tub deep enough to come within an inch of the top of the rootball.

Once it sinks to the bottom let it sit for 15 minutes, then gently lift it and let it drip off.

A few days later you will see a huge explosion of root tips out the side walls.

Right after dripping out is an excellent time for a tea or a feed.

Be gentle so you dont gush nutes out as you lift it out.

When your done use the tub water to water with. Its great in house plants, your lawn, veggie garden, etc..

I haven’t seen root tips out of my sidewalls in two grows now, last one and this one. This may be why. It also explains why no matter how thoroughly I water, the sides always feel sort of crispy all up and down the pot.

Comparatively, you’re a little older than I am, so explain to me how tf you manage to move a 10 gallon container when it’s wet? 🤣 The container is already heavy when it’s dry, it’s a boulder when wet.

I may just have to bring the tub up to the grow room and use a combination of stuff to make this happen cuz my drip trays aren’t deep enough for that much water

If you haven't guessed by now, Im a health food junkie. No animal proteins, all whole foods and plants. Squatting 100 pounds out of a tub is no sweat at all for my 6'2" 155lb frame. My pots are in milk crates so that helps. I'm lean for a 60 year old. Still got all my hair too, and its long. Feed the machine Baby! It's all about brix.

6’2 and 155 Jesus Christ 🤣 ripped ass old man smh 😂 I’m 5’8 125 lbs 😂 my problem isn’t overeating it’s under eating. I really don’t even like food, I just eat it because I have to or I die.

Those extra 6 inches you have also make it much easier I imagine. When I lift the pots they bang against my legs, an extra 6 inches would probably make it easier. The milk crates also help a lot by dispersing the weight. Grabbing the handles of the container forces all the weight to the middle.

I’ll figure it out, I can squat 100 lbs with relative ease, I just haven’t bothered trying to do it with the container yet. Definitely gonna need to bring a tub up though, since it’s in the attic, lugging the containers up and down the stairs isn’t an option.

Why not get a washing tub from WallyWorld? They have the big blue ones with handles, kind of like they use on farms but flimsier. :laughtwo: Maybe 20 gallons?

That doesn't solve the water delivery issue, but would give you a round, slightly larger container that would minimize the water you'd have to haul.

It took me a good 5 minutes to figure out what Wally World was 🤣 I kept thinking about National Lampoons Vacation Wally World 😂

A wash tub or similar is about the only option.. The 10 gallon containers are larger than a milk crate and 5 gallon buckets. I had to get 21 inch risers so it’s around 18 inches in diameter. Or it may have been 18 inch risers and 16 inch diameter, either way, larger than the aforementioned stuff

I turned one into an outdoor SIP for a zucchini. I'd think it'd easily accommodate a milk crate.

Flip +2. Everyone is gearing up for an explosion, you can see the massive amount of new green growth spreading everywhere from the growing tips to the fan leaves. Within the next couple days they’ll start taking off.

The two plants that were showing the twisting have both eased back down and relaxed as I suspected. Some times that jolt of oxygen and mineral availability can twist the leaves up. If you see it and it doesn’t abate after 24 hours you’re looking at a bigger issue, that wasn’t the case here.
