Keffka's Recycling, KOS Blue Thai, Herbies Seeds Apple Betty, Runtz Punch

Turned the light down and repositioned the plants. The sharp edges calmed down asap and the plants eased their cupping. The glow around the edges showing light burn is clearer now. Unfortunately that will never go away, fortunately it’s low enough it won’t be a big deal at all.

They’re hungry.. The EWC should hit soon but it’s not nearly enough.. they’ll get a full dose of fish fert next watering then a transplant. Here are the pots

Two 1 gallon smart pots which looked too small so I also am trying two 2 gallon smart pots and two 2 gallon spring pots which hold themselves up and taut.

These pots are gonna get a nice veg blend layer on the bottom and the top. I won’t be spiking since I don’t plan on running these any longer than they need to fill the pot with roots. Then they’ll hit their 10 gallons.

I’ll prep containers tomorrow and likely transplant Sunday or Monday

Life is weird. There are times where I sit and think about the choices I’ve made. Choices that have lead me to places like smoking outside an old Korean ladies tent at 2 AM in some rural southern Korea field while I wait for her to cook food. Or sitting on a flight pad as the sun comes up over the mountains of Afghanistan, waiting for the perfect opportunity to jump in a chinook and take off.

It’s hard to grasp that it was actually me that did those things and lived that life. It all seems like some dream of a different life. However, when I was in those moments, they were very real. I can still feel them. I can remember the sights and sounds, even exact thoughts at the time, but it still feels like some disconnected part of my past. It’s weird. Life’s weird. Consciousness is even weirder.

I need these aliens to show themselves so they can start teaching us universal stuff instead of this short sighted human garbage.
I think we just became like best friends after this post. The folks at Skinwalker Ranch are certainly trying to get them to show up and teach us something.....BTW congrats on the new babies they are coming along really nicely!

@Gee64 how does this sound for my top and bottom veg layer blends:

3 parts blood meal
1 part kelp meal
1 part bone meal
1 part oyster shell

I’ll sprinkle an 1/8 tsp of SRP underneath the perlite layer each rootball will be set on so roots can grab it within a couple days of transplant. I don’t have any guanos on hand so I went up 1 part on the blood meal and will use bone meal and oyster shell.

Rev also has a super basic blend recipe of:

2 parts blood meal
1 part kelp meal
1 part bone meal

I think I’ll actually go with that and keep the oyster shells for the flower container when calcium will have been run through

I like this one but I would keep the 1 part oyster shells in it too.

I don't like blood meal even though I do use it. Its dangerous if you use too much at once. Its best cooked in.

You need to make sure you don't have raw carbon laying around or it could heat up.

If it were in a spike it wouldn't be as much of an issue, but if your soil/ewc isn't finished then a whole layer across the whole pot could be an issue but... If its all finished cooking, blood meal is far less a problem.

I use it in mixes , spikes, and layers. And well, the oyster shells are calcium, and I kinda have a thing for calcium.

Whichever way you go I would toss the oyster shells in for sure. Its excellent on the recycle.

I went with

2 parts blood meal
1 part kelp meal
1 part bone meal
1 part fish bone meal

I’ll add in some oyster shells to keep it buffered.. the fish bone meal has like 16-18% calcium as well so we’re not playing around this time. These are just veg layers for veg containers though.. when I move into flower I’ll throw a flower blend down low and the above recipe on top.

I like this one. When that gets uppotted to a bigger flower pot all that phos will be getting available.

Kind of like a pre-flower veg spike.😎

I've never used fish bone meal. I keep meaning to buy some and never quite get around to it. Anything from the sea is good.

I always forget I have it while I’m theorizing. I usually wind up halving my bone meal input and adding in FBM. The plants love it.. I’ve watched it stop a P deficiency in its tracks without upsetting myco, it’s pretty impressive. I love the consistency of it too:

It’s the little off white pieces.. I like it a lot.. it does have a powerful smell if you top dress it though 🤣

The four larger plants are getting transplanted today.. They’re at Day 19.. I got close to 21.. Oh well.

I can’t push them any longer.. It will take them time to find the food and adjust to their new containers and if I push that out much further it’s gonna harm their growth and starve the microbes.

I will document how I build one of the containers so there is a record of how I transplant. Once transplanted and mulched, each container will be watered with at least a quart of pure water with fish fert (Hydrolyzed fish) at a 1 ml to L ratio.. I am looking to settle them in nicely and am unconcerned with runoff.

Yesterday I mixed up 8 gallons of soil with 2 gallons of EWC and 1 gallon of perlite to get the soil biology hopping for today.

Since I am running fabrics this time around I will be putting a light layer of soil on the bottom then will put my High N blend plus SRP down. I will not spread the layer over the entire bottom, I want the roots to be able to go around it if they want to. In addition to the High N layer I will also add in 1/2 tbsp per gallon of @GeoFlora Nutrients Grow.. When I go to flower I will use bloom.

Per usual I will breakdown everything I’ve used once I’m finished

In typical stoner fashion I made a mistake and didn’t realize it until it was too late 🤣

I should’ve saved my two one gallons for the two slower plants.. This would’ve helped cut soil use and allowed them to catch up.. I had already built one of the one gallons by the time I thought about this and I can’t unbuild them. Oh well.. It’s not even homegrown if you don’t make a mistake (or three) 🤣

I went with two different patterns, we’ll see if there’s any noticeable difference.

Per gallon ratios:

1/2 tbsp High N blend (2 part blood meal, 1 part bone, 1 part fish bone meal) I added 1 part oyster shells as well.

1/2 tbsp Geoflora Veg

1/8 tsp Soft Rock Phosphate

I will put 1 tsp of high N and GF Veg on top after transplant.

I’m undecided on the spikes.. I don’t think I’ll need them in the Veg containers since I’ll be transplanting into the 10 gallons as soon as the roots fill the bag.. Who knows, I like to call audibles.. maybe spike a couple blue Thais

I prefer to top at the same time I transplant.. get the stress out of the way all at once. It was a little tough since the nodes were so tightly packed.. still was able to do each while leaving a little extra space above the 3rd node. All stems were strong, no need to bury anyone.

Everyone was watered in with a quart of pure water, had plenty of runoff which is good.. get both environments mixing. I threw a layer of mulch down on top of each container. I went with no spikes since I’ll be transplanting as soon as possible out of these pots. Basically just waiting on sex to show and for them to build a true rootball.

I’ll likely let the plants go for a bit before doing anything major. Let them rest and figure out their new hormones. I’ll start tying and pruning this weekend or next week. Don’t have much lateral growth yet, just a few nodal leaves. I’m rarely in a hurry to remove a fan leaf anyway.

Looking fabulous Keff! Sending so much great griw love to your fantastically set up grow!:circle-of-love::cheer:

Thanks Krissi! They’re like my teenager. They’re much happier to see me once in a while versus all day every day 😂 Lights on at night has worked out well for me for everything except lights off temps. I can’t get my lights off temps much lower than 75.. the plants don’t seem to be bothered by this at all. By the time we flower the temps will be lower though, gotta get those colder temps at lights off to try to pull out any colors, especially this Runtz Punch

Great pot building Keffka!

Thanks Stone! 1 gallons are a bit tough to get everything in without being too close to the roots. I’m a little concerned I watered the top layer top dressing onto the roots. We’ll find out I guess lol.

I’ve never prepared a container larger than 3 with our method so that’ll be interesting too.. should be able to be much cleaner with it
