Jon's Sneak It In Auto Grow

Handily have a chart here.

You can’t choose anything marked S or GH

But 6 strains still.

One sombrero and one MOAB same strain.

Wow you are serious!! Thanks Nick! And for me that’s a relatively easy call. Let’s see the mighty Slurricane! My first NugOTM win was for mine. One of my favorite strains ever. And super frosty. Cool?

Thats what I grew last year Slurricane she was a beast.

I also get why you do one plant at a time. If I had the space I would have done a lot more with the growth. I could easily fill a 5x5 using this method. And I have the space to let her get a few nodes more of stem than you to start. I may try it. But one plant like you’re growing is a TON of work!
@Jon
Most people scoff at the idea of removing 30 - 50 leaves per day.
It is a lot of work but we all spend a lot of time with the plant anyway. You WILL know every leaf and node though.
I have tried more nodes in the cabinet before topping but there is a point of too many colas in too tight an area. I believe 16 - 20 colas per square foot is maximum. About one cola every 3" x 3" square. This is for Sativas and Hybrids. I haven't used this method for pure Indicas (not a fan of couch-lock).

Hey,

“A wise choice, Sir”

Check the tasting notes above!

@Hafta sorry I stupidly deleted my response but basically TL/DR - love defoliation ourselves. Wouldn’t stop even with side lighting. Read the plants. More eyes on always. My wife’s other name is

“The Demon Barberess”

Yeah man - its apparently USA’s most popular right now. There allegedly a Breeder Bro S1 special tearing it up but Antesia is very well regarded I believe. It was free and a surprise gift from the seed bank I paid Jan 2nd and received in May. 😂. It was a nightmare and not their fault. But they’d seen it in my basket along eith a bunch of @Barney's Farm so sent 5 free Strawberry Cheesecake Autos too. The seed place would be a great sponsor.

@Jon
Well, you know, I was talking with the pepper plants today ( which are growing using the @Remo Nutrients I won for Plant of the Month) and the Jalapenos are now 6" from the FULLY raised main light. None of the main was getting to the Chile de Arbol below.

P1020188.JPG

Then I remembered seeing how someone had used sticks to spread the branches. I borrowed your approach and made this ...

P1020189.JPG

Once installed the Chile de Arbol got real happy to get more overhead light.

Thanks.

Fun with bamboo! It’s an extremely versatile thing to have a bunch of bamboo around. Soon I begin work on my bamboo scrog screen shaped like the great pyramid. That’s gonna be fun.

Apple Fritter
Day 25

All I want to do is make it so that the four mains grow up with enough space between the four of them. But I don’t want to stake them as that compromises their height a little. This silly little bamboo stick thing that even I laughed at actually works quite well. And what could be easier? These four main colas look pretty spread out in the picture. Too spread out. But, what will happen is they’ll turn upwards and grow just like they were, and they’ll be a little more spread than they were before the sticks. But not nearly as spread as they look in the picture. The idea is to spread them as much as possible while still keeping them inside the lower ring.

Here you go:

Let’s Compare an Auto and a Photo of the Same Strain

So @KeithLemon and I just so happen to be growing the same strain. Apple Fritter. He’s growing the photo version and I’m growing the auto version. We talked about doing a comparison a little and decided it would be cool, so here’s the first comparison post. Look for more as we go either here or in Keith’s journal

Funny thing is, there IS no comparison. Lmao! His is HUGE. Mine’s a decent sized little auto. Also notice that the photo version displays much better and more extensive side branching, as well as much better internodal spacing. Both have similar large fan leaves, (although mine are gone) and both have the same color. As you can see from the auto version, the strain takes to training real well, and although mine is all tricked out and his is closer to natural, we did get to see that his photo responded nicely to his main stem topping. The photo would dwarf the auto regardless, but I wonder if I had let mine go naturally how much closer the disparity would be.

Keith’s photo Apple Fritter is first, then my auto.

Wow these totally different in size but the one being an auto is right for size your training is second to none. I will try some training next year as I have enough trying new things for this year. Thanks for making the post I can't wait to see them in flower.

Awesome. Yeah man, by next year, think how much you’ll know about training. You’ll be able to pick and choose whatever style you want.

Day 62 above ground.
Ok so Keith’s photo is on day 62 and still in veg. My auto is on day 25 and still in veg. I would say that’s proportionally close enough to say that we’re on approximately a similar schedule. What I’m very curious about is whether both versions take the same amount of time to flower. @KeithLemon, are you cool with counting it as “now in flower” when we start to see more than a couple pistils, but before budlets? We should be on the same page there. That way we count the stretch as part of flower, which it is and is as it should be. Okay? It will allow us to track days in flower comparatively. Thanks! This is fun.

I will start counting let me write it in my log book.

Garden

Here’s a front and back view, and then a closeup of the Gorilla Zkittlez. Everyone is stretching, and the GZ is actively budding. If I had more space, I have days I could have as well as days I still could spread them out much more. More than once I stopped and considered the balance between space available and my desire to go as wide as possible. Lol. It is a win-win. I’m maxed out left to right so we go tall. This is essentially what I wanted - for the totality of the stretch to take place without the need to train through the stretch. That way all of the stretch goes long (tall) and we get a ton of stem under every cola. Four of these would have filled the 5x5. Easy. But this is going to look very cool when everyone is jamming in flower. I can’t wait!

Pink Rozay
Day 26

I finally bit the bullet and took the two large fans a couple nodes down from the pair at the top. Those are next, lol. I loved those fans, but progress is progress. We have plenty of leaves to power her now. This plant is remarkable. I can’t wait to see how much she is going to stretch with no training. The stakes you see are doing nothing more than gently pulling branches to the side just a little.

Looks nice. If you do not mind me asking what is that in the back ground?

Not at all. Left to right, the background is a small refrigerator (not in use), then my leg braces for when I exercise and drag my legs around with a walker pretending I can walk, then my black bathrobe I haven’t worn in forever.

It’s a bedroom closet grow!

Lmao.
