Jon's Sneak It In Auto Grow

Pink Rozay
Day 26

I finally bit the bullet and took the two large fans a couple nodes down from the pair at the top. Those are next, lol. I loved those fans, but progress is progress. We have plenty of leaves to power her now. This plant is remarkable. I can’t wait to see how much she is going to stretch with no training. The stakes you see are doing nothing more than gently pulling branches to the side just a little.

She is stunning Jon!

Not at all. Left to right, the background is a small refrigerator (not in use), then my leg braces for when I exercise and drag my legs around with a walker pretending I can walk, then my black bathrobe I haven’t worn in forever.

It’s a bedroom closet grow!

Lmao.
Thats what I thought I have a closet full of braces. Your plant looks really good. Sorry for being nosey.

No sweat Keith. I don’t keep it a secret. Lol! Even if I still don’t have a single bite on my wheelchair growing help thread.

So @Hafta, another thing about your CST thread - once again you’re spot on. You talk in there about the leaf development and when you stop taking all those leaves daily, and you note that there is a point in the stretch when they cease to toss 100s of leaves daily. Well I am now at that point. Today is the first day that I looked in the morning and then just now, and it basically looks about the same. At least comparatively speaking to the last few weeks. I think I have it defoliated pretty effectively. I have plenty of engines skirted down low. I have pretty much all my bud sites exposed and not blocked. I have the leaves low and inside removed so that air flow through the canopy is pretty unfettered. With those four fans rocking each corner of the tent, the canopy is getting supreme moving air. I’m determined to not have bud rot here, despite everything being a bit crammed. And as they stretch I gradually remove the stakes so that they come up a little bit and thus the circumference of the canopy gets an inch or two tighter. So I’ll be fine. Thanks again my man.

Apple Fritter
Day 25

All I want to do is make it so that the four mains grow up with enough space between the four of them. But I don’t want to stake them as that compromises their height a little. This silly little bamboo stick thing that even I laughed at actually works quite well. And what could be easier? These four main colas look pretty spread out in the picture. Too spread out. But, what will happen is they’ll turn upwards and grow just like they were, and they’ll be a little more spread than they were before the sticks. But not nearly as spread as they look in the picture. The idea is to spread them as much as possible while still keeping them inside the lower ring.

Here you go:

Here we are 14 hours later and this is what I was referring to. See how the four colas are now up and separated?

I’m a bit of a training junkie, @KeithLemon. Partially cuz my actual addiction is yield, lol, and partially cuz training is like a Zen thing for me. It relaxes me. I’m touching and talking to the plants and I am constantly engaged in heavy observation. I learn a ton just watching closely and learning how they grow and what they do. It also keeps me engaged and active during the long stretches of time when I’d be bored otherwise. It makes me feel like I’m more in touch with the earth the more I touch the plants. But bottom line is that all that happy esoteric stuff is great but this is really all about yield.

Although it’s worthy to note that if I were an outdoor grower (and whenever I have grown outdoors) I would never waste all this time on training. I’d let them go. Pretty much all I ever do with strictly outdoor plants is top the main node. They yield plenty outside no matter what you do. The sun is the best and it moves. No need to train plants. Everything gets plenty of light naturally. So all this training is specific to tent growing. Besides, imho, the prettiest plants are the Christmas trees that grow naturally and just get huge. You CAN do outside everything you might do for a tent, but to me, it’s like, why?

Photo/Auto Apple Fritter Comparison Update
@KeithLemon

I got a message from Keith that his Apple Fritter photo was showing pistils, and that as per our agreed upon definition for this comparison of when to start counting flower days, today is day one of flower for him. So the first thing I did (just now) was go and check my AF auto.

Guess what? Ha! I’m on day one too! All the colas have either one or a pair of pre-pistils like these. Lol. Sorta sounds silly, I know. Hey, that’s just how we decided to count this time. But you can also see the shape of the leaves in the new growth is changing to those super thin leaves that always look like this.

So how cool is that Keith? I’ll take all the lucky accidents I can get! Flower day 1. Heh. Now we will get to see if they finish at the same time (or close to it) or of the photo takes longer.

Here’s the first sign of flower for me. The VERY first sign. Lol!

So I’ve told you guys of my love and respect for my Yoda’s weed, and you’ve seen the pictures. He’s a professional grower and well connected by anyone’s standards. And if you followed me last grow , you may remember me telling you that Yoda had just been invited to compete in his first ever Cannabis Cup. Not sure which exact one, but an Oregon one. So competition against growers who are among the best growers on the planet. His strain was some exotic hybrid I forget the name. It took him 40 years of growing to get invited to his first competition, and today he told me his results.

He didn’t even place in any category.

This is jaw dropping to me. If Yoda felt it was good enough to enter, it was as good as it gets. I thought he’d place at least. Nope.

I need to attend one. I can’t imagine the level of buds if Yoda can’t even place.

Its so subjective though isn’t it?

I mean even one person’s responses to it.

Why do we fall? So we learn to pick ourselves back up again. Tell him not to give up entering!

There’s few started here. I mossed the first ones (this year) and apparently mostly a bit of a shambles in organisation - one in Ph to enter to had to have a dispensary stall as well which was like $1000 for the space alone.

But meaning to have a look at what’s on later in the year. Be huge fun to try out!

This will be very interesting.

I hear you. For this contest he had to be invited. No entering. I’ll find out specifically which one it was and his strain. See if I can get some pictures. And yeah, totally subjective. I like the strains that are multiple award winners, I figure if they win again and again it’s gotta be awesome.

This will be very interesting.
I agree @KeithLemon! I haven’t seen two people pair up like this in co-journals or whatever before. Probably been done but it’s rare at least. I hope the people reading have fun with it as we are! Great observational learning tool. You know what I’ve already learned seeing your plant? I wanna grow the photo!!!

Pink Rozay (veg)
Apple Fritter (flower day 1)

At this point you can really see a very cool difference. Check the photo - on the left we have an untrained plant. On the right we have a plant all tricked out. I don’t know what to say about this other than it’s an interesting comparison.
