Jon's Sneak It In Auto Grow

So @Hafta - it’s really interesting. In veg the side lights promoted massive growth and massive fan leaf development. Now that everyone is in flower, the effect seems to have shifted. It seems now that what they’re doing is producing massive amounts of flarfy crap that has to be taken. Little new growth in the undercarriage and all over the underneath branches. Suddenly THAT is my new job. It’s really crazy I must say.

If your lower " flarf " turned out like this ........

J22 Final - 3.JPG

...... would you still remove it?

Maybe not now but .......................... let some grow. You have plenty of light. Let me know how you feel in 8 - 10 weeks.
P.S. I would leave as many full size fan leaves around the perimeter as you can, removing interiors to expose the " flarf ". Next grow you can try skirting from the beginning?

Whoa. Thank you @Hafta. Some of this I knew - the part about chains over other things especially. And the suggestions are great. I had to jury rig this setup together after the plants were already in place. I compromised everywhere. Next time I’ll have it set up from the beginning along the lines of what you’re talking about. And I intend to get a rope LED to wind around the very bottom. So I’m with you on all this. My questions will inevitably come up when I’m actually setting it up. You’re my Sensei on this. Damn I collect a lot of special and specific Sensei’s here. Lol!
Not sure where / why the rope LED? You've got some good lighting now.

I ran across a photo that shows the chain configuration on the fixtures. My " tilt " adjustment is a chain I used to hang on a hook on the main fixture. I have since gone to a magnet on the wall. Either way works. I imagine you would go to the rope hanger there. That rope hanger could be mounted to a " looped " chain at the top of the wall. You won't need an additional cross bar.

Rarely have I had an auto go nuts like this one is. I’m already dreaming of a tent full of these. I better like the damn strain. Lol. But just check out the side branching. It’s ridiculous. My six cola lower set of colas is multiplying dramatically. Just going completely apeshit. So much fun to watch.

Yup. Thanks @Hafta. I see that this time I have landed on skirting more by accident than design. But in this method it’s the only way to do it. The skirt powers the plant. I get it. My only issue is making sure to not take the skirt fans just because when I rotate the plants they smash each other. It takes a lot of rearranging to have six like this in this space. I’m tucking like a madman and taking leaves as necessary. It’s hard enough to keep up with on one plant much less six. I like the Blurple Closet a lot more. Lol!

@Hafta - The rope is a result of further research. Based on your stuff, what I have going on, and a ton of side light research, I have come to the conclusion that with a bar light overhead, side lights up and angled like in the chains picture, and a rope LED around the bottom it covers everything, with the main lighting from the top and angled. The rope is low level output obviously. I saw a bunch of journals using it and it seems to allow you to not have to have the side lights too low. What do you think? Unnecessarily redundant? That was my thought. Thanks.

Any of these six plants could literally be twice as wide as they are. I have been forced cuz of space to let them go up rather than wide. But these guys, especially the Dos Si Dos and the Platinum Mimosa Cookies, could be 3-4 foot wide canopies EASY. With a trillion bud sites. The Watermelon Wedding Cakes seem to like being left to go more naturally better. They have taken fine to the canopy but are getting dusted by the PMCs.

WoW they are growing like crazy Jon.

Friday Fun Post

I’ve been smoking a lot of plugs. This is a plug. It’s what happens when you roll a fatty and only smoke part of it, then cut plugs off the remaining, now resinated joint and unroll them and smoke them as a bong hit. You get maybe four or five plugs from half a fatty. Otherwise I end up with that all too cliche ashtray full of half joints. Can’t have that. It’s not 1974.

I would consider it redundant but I haven't tried it. In my experience, plants like to grow towards the light and I would prefer they grow between 45 - 90 degrees.

If you think you need additional growth, give it a try.

@Hafta - Well, they’re pretty cheap. I think the idea is people think with them in the mix they help the skirt and the little shoots even you would remove. They make so many even without the rope that it seems like at best it will just create more work. Some of that stuff in the middle just has to go for air flow, especially when the buds are dense all the way to the bottom of the stems. So yeah, forget the rope. And while the @ViparSpectra XS1500 Pros make great side lights, I want something much wider. So I’m researching lights now to replace the VS. Besides, I owe Valerie a journal with them in the 2x4 that she has very patiently waited on for my move.

You also have me thinking about my closet. If I get stuck here longer, I think I’m going to empty the closet and take off the bars currently holding up the 420h. Then I can hang a bar light for a 5x5 in there. The FC-E6500 maybe. Or maybe a couple 3x3 lights. You get the picture. That’s a huge dedicated auto grow space just screaming at me to convert it. Lol!

Garden

Damn Gorilla Zkittlez main cola and ultra stretch on the Platinum Mimosa Cookies forcing my hand….raised the light today. A couple inches makes a big difference. Slightly lower ppfd numbers but a wider field. Trade off that works, especially with all the light pressure from the @ViparSpectra XS1500 Pros side lights being bounced around.

Day 35
Outdoor Day!

Finally a rain free day. Been a while. She’ll enjoy the sun and soak it in! 35 days in and we have stretch and pistils but no budlets yet. Interestingly, this untopped main cola is not stretching as fast as the rest of the plant. I figured she’d be up above everyone else by now. The strain seems to be sending most of it’s stretching energy into new side branching, which is very thick-stemmed, versus vertical growth.

Here’s a good example of thick stemmed side branches. See the arrows? The side branches there are almost as thick as the stem leading into them!
