Jon's Sneak It In Auto Grow

Listening to you in the morning always keeps me smiling. :cheesygrinsmiley:

Watching our legal case closely. If I get stuck here for the winter I’m setting back up and going big. Other than that all is copacetic. Thanks about the music. That tune is one of the best from that show.

She is just a wonderful smoke.
But best of all she is a beast in a pot.
Seriously @Herbies Seeds Apple Betty is one of the best strains I've grown.
Out of the 200 or so over the years she is top 5 easy. :thumb:
Jump on the Apple Betty band wagon, we are all growing her.:green_heart:

Whoa! That’s quite the review coming from you. I’m shocked. Happily!!! Beast in a pot eh? How about in a ten in a 5x5 with one other beast of a different strain (Mac1) in a ten? I can fill the 5x5 halfway with the Apple Betty in a 10?

Our age range is 46 to 31. In 9 days, when the range is 55 to 40, we will have buds on every plant. Then it’s time to start hoping about spaced out harvest times.:rofl:

Hmm…I don’t actually know @Hafta. I have a new GGT 5x5 (unopened) which would be identical to this tent. Then I have a good but cheaper 5x5 (AC Infinity to try) that is also unopened. Not sure if the diameter of the AC tent is the same as the GGTs or not. Probably is. Then I have two different brand 3x3s, one unopened. They are likely the same size but not sure if they would be the same as the 5x5s. But if the usual holds true for all tents, then yes, the tents are designed with the tops, bottoms and side the same diameter. They have to be to go in the corner pieces. The only poles that are usually thinner are the ones that hold the light and stuff in the ceiling.

Does that answer your question? And why do you ask that question?
@Jon

We were discussing modifications to a tent to provide a method of hanging side lighting. How about this?

While ( before ) you are erecting your tent:

Measure the diameter of your horizontal support poles.
Go to your local Home Improvement store and buy some PVC tees that will slide completely over your poles.
Purchase enough to put a couple on every horizontal tube (top, middle, etc.), or anywhere you might want an additional rod.
Purchase enough PVC pipe, that fits snugly into the tees, to cut into the width of your tent.

You can position the tees where you want to hang anything from side lights to SOG screens to yoyos, then push the PVC into the opposing tees. This can be done after the tent is assembled and can be done at any time during the grow. As long as your PVC pipe is cut correctly, this will support anything you wish to hang.

Loop a chain over the support rod and connect your rope hanger to the two ends. Now this chain can be slid along the rod easily by lifting the end of your light and sliding the chain with a broomstick to adjust the distance from the grow.

If you are using the lower side ones for SCROG, they can be removed when not in use and the tees will just hang on the cross pieces.

As for the light fixtures. Every hanging light fixture is hung from four points. I prefer chains over brackets, here's why.

A chain with an odd number of links has a specific center which will not change when the fixture is tilted. I would put a chain at either end of the fixture and attach the rope hanger to the center link.

I would also run a chain lengthwise on one side of the fixture. I would attach one end of a third rope hanger to the center link of that chain and the other end to a chain hanging from a support rod (also adjustable with a broomstick). As you tighten this rope hanger the fixture will tilt. It will now be completely adjustable in height, distance, and tilt.

I hope this makes sense. Let me know if you have questions.

Infrastructure Upgrade in the Garden

I scoured the Zon until I found some of these tables that are the same size as the ones I have - 26”. That’s my sweet spot based on the height of my chair. These are screwed together by me and far more solid than the others.

So here’s the table that makes my wheelchair bound ass do a little less work, and a before and after of the upgrade. Way better airflow from underneath. As I put the last ones together I’ll replace the other two yellow tote setups.

Whoa. Thank you @Hafta. Some of this I knew - the part about chains over other things especially. And the suggestions are great. I had to jury rig this setup together after the plants were already in place. I compromised everywhere. Next time I’ll have it set up from the beginning along the lines of what you’re talking about. And I intend to get a rope LED to wind around the very bottom. So I’m with you on all this. My questions will inevitably come up when I’m actually setting it up. You’re my Sensei on this. Damn I collect a lot of special and specific Sensei’s here. Lol!

Easily, be careful with the veg or your going to need an extention. ;)
She had a 1 inch stalk in a 1 gallon air pot.
Check the greenhouse.

So @Hafta - it’s really interesting. In veg the side lights promoted massive growth and massive fan leaf development. Now that everyone is in flower, the effect seems to have shifted. It seems now that what they’re doing is producing massive amounts of flarfy crap that has to be taken. Little new growth in the undercarriage and all over the underneath branches. Suddenly THAT is my new job. It’s really crazy I must say.

Apple Fritter Auto/Photo Comparison
Defoliation Styles Contrast
@KeithLemon

Today we take a look at two very different styles of defoliation. My style on the auto and Keith Lemon’s style on his photo. Both plants are showing pistils. My auto began to stretch pretty much a day or two after I saw the first pistil. Keith’s photo is an outdoor plant and subject to the sun, so although she is beginning to show pistils she is not actually stretching yet. For our comparison purposes only we consider both plants in flower.

On my AF auto, I went at her on the defol pretty good. I exposed all the inner growth and the growth at the top of the main colas, as well as opening up the top middle a bit. I took my share of leaves and I am not shy about it.

On Keith’s AF photo, he is far more reserved. The man does not like to give up his beautiful, gigantic fan leaves. If mine were outdoors and looked like his I wouldn’t want to either! However, hesitantly he bit the bullet and took some lower growth/fans and just a here and there upper leaf. Mostly he says he concentrated on the bottom. Compared to my style, Keith is a minimalist. I, on the other hand, am an idiot. Lmao!!!

Here are our two plants. First is Keith’s photo, then my auto. And as I look at Keith’s plant (which I took the liberty of photo editing) I see maybe she IS stretching - the top looks like maybe she is. Keith?

Jon your plant looks much neater than may plant, and it has gained a lot of size very nice grow. Yes, it was hard for me to take leaves even though I know the leaves I took were doing nothing for the plant as I have plenty of fans left to catch the sun. You being the one with more experience. What do you think the next step should be. Thanks for the nice comparison.

When his photo is in late flower he’s got a PLOTM potential for sure. She’s a beast!

I am not so sure of that but thank you and your plant is a PLOTM right now so I would put it in on Saturday. If it were mine I would for sure.

Thanks Keith. Honestly, if you want my opinion I think you have everything well in hand and under control. I wouldn’t do a thing different than you’re doing. You’re growing like a veteran, it’s awesome. And there are tons of folks who are far better growers than me also helping you out. My guess is most of them are pretty impressed given your level of experience. I am. One of your strongest things is that you are not shy about asking for help. That will continue to serve you well. It’s exactly how I developed every skill I may have. So my two cents is to let her go now and let the sun do her thing. Just keep her well fed and watch for any signs that you may need to add some calmag, but outdoors I haven’t seen that to be as important as under LED for some reason I don’t know. Excellent work my man.
