Sombrero Training and the Apple Fritter
This is the Apple Fritter. Notice in the first picture the relationship in size between the two tops from the topping and the shoots from the node below. Also notice in the second picture our emerging lower ring.
I had planned to use Dual Sombrero on this girl. In that case, the two shoots below the topping would get pulled out to join the lower ring and the two shoots from the topping go straight up. But in looking at the first picture, this girl is set up perfectly for Quad Sombrero instead. There’s two ways to do the upper quad.
1. Top the topped two shoots from the main topping a second time. There’s your quad.
2. (Preferable) - this one depends on the plant. What we have here is a best case scenario. No need to top again. Simply use the two shoots from the topping as two and the two shoots on the node below as the other two. There’s your quad. While this will only leave six main branches with which to start the ring, that is more than enough to complete it with side branch topping and side branching. It works perfectly when the lower node is close to the topped shoots, as it is here.

It’s going to end up with four relatively even sized main colas up the middle and a complete lower ring below that. In a perfect world, the ring gets wide enough to not be affected lightwise (robbing light) by the mains. It’s super easy and low work load training that still gives you plenty of yield. It does work better either outside or under a bar light. I probably wouldn’t train this way with a center mount light. But I’ve done it a number of times and it is so named cuz when it’s done and she’s in flower, she’ll start to look like a Sombrero. It’s cool cuz you’re letting the mains go from now to the end, so they get long and make big colas. It looks pretty cool. It’s so easy. Lots of upsides.

On Feeding Autos
Everyone is either in their stretch or about to begin. At this point, with autos using Prescription Blend, I make a feed adjustment.
Imagine a chart/graph that showed you the peaks and valleys of exactly when the plant uses energy. I imagine such a thing exists but I couldn’t find it. In this chart, I believe that when the plants begin to stretch we would see a huge spike. It would gradually tail off a little and level out after that. But I am of the opinion that the plant is working its hardest during the stretch. I feel this way because that is when you see the most growth in the least amount of time. It seems to follow in my logic that this would be max energy consumption time.
Therefore, I have found it useful to increase the feed concentration during the stretch. It is the time when I hit them with the strongest nute mix I’ll use for the whole grow. Part of why I settled on this is because when I do lose an auto (by lose I mean the plant starts to show deficiencies of some sort), it is always right after the stretch. This doesn’t happen since I began upping the feed for stretch time.
So, I was already on 5-10-10-5-5-5 (ml per gallon) with the Prescription Blend feed. Starting today, I mixed a five gallon bucket at 100% feed, then basically added I tsp. of each ingredient (proportionally, so 2 tsp. core A and B). Literally the way I mixed was with a tablespoon measuring spoon, which makes it fast. All I did was go (in tbsp.) 2-4-4-2-2-2, which translates in PB feed chart language to 6-12-12-6-6-6 (in ml/gallon).
Sorry if that’s confusing but anyone using PB should understand it.
It may sound hot, it did to me at first. But I’ve done it this way a dozen times at least now and never once had an issue. I wouldn’t treat photos that way, but I am also of the opinion that autos can take more crap than photos. The reason, I believe, is due to the introduction of the Ruderalis genetics in autos. Think about the environment in which Ruderalis grows naturally. We’re talking very unforgiving environments. Cold. Tons of sunlight hours. They are nature’s version of a kill proof pot plant. So when you introduce that genetic to a regular pot plant, the plant takes on the toughness of the Ruderalis. That’s my theory and I’m sticking with it, at least until @Emilya Green slaps me back and tells me differently.
Everyone got the increased feed today and will through the stretch. I also added 3 tbsp. Of Fox Farms Kelp Me Kelp You to the five gallon mix.
Everyone is happy today and getting larger rapidly.

As you guys know, my Yoda operates out of Oregon. Oregon is the US state that has basically legalized everything. Including mushrooms. Mini Strain Review
Yoda’s Grape Cream Cake #2
It was immensely satisfying to wake up today and have great weed to smoke that I didn’t grow. I am SO sick of smoking my own weed!
Today I chose Yoda’s Grape Cream Cake #2. Lovely weed. Awesome in fact. At night. Oops! Just my luck to pick the heaviest indica he gave me to start the day. Lmao!
On the other hand, my pain is as close to zero as it ever gets at the moment. Heh.
This strain is aptly named. Yoda pulls all the terps out and they shine - you can actually taste grape on the exhale with this, at least close enough to talk yourself into it. And it has a creamy linger on the palate after the hit. The Wedding Crashers genetic is there as well, giving it some fruity, earthen gassiness. Breaking open a bud releases a pungent, earthy, stale grape odor that drives you mad. A bong hit was wonderful, psyched to try a j-bone later tonight. Great strain I had again never heard of.

Thanks Nick - yeah, about ten minutes after a couple bongs I started being glad today is Sunday. There may be a hot bath nap in my future with the Bluetooth speaker blowing up my bathroom. I have a few real good ‘74 Dead shows I haven’t heard yet. Gotta love those 30-minute Playin in the Bands they were doing back then. Like Dark Star jams in D. The whole bathroom/bedroom currently smells of Chanel Blue for Men (aftershave) a very big bottle was washed off the counter when the tap burst and smashed on the floor. It gives the room an expensive smell

I have used my bathtub as a veg space before. I was out of places and had two plants to veg. Set a frame up for the light. It was very effective actually. Lol.Ah enjoy man.
