Jon's First Outdoor Grow: Sugar Breath Photoperiod & Strawberry Banana Autoflower

I mean specifically purple. Doesn't even seem to matter what strain, or if it's photo or auto, they all seem to go purple with colder temps consistently. This applies more to the fan and sugar leaves, not necessarily the buds themselves as much,
I'm thinking that since all plant metabolism is slowing down at those temps, so that could be the reason for the leaf color change.
The buds are very well developed for day 15, and I wonder if removing growth robbing extraneous crap has helped this. @InTheShed, what do you think?
No question about it! I always use the peach tree parallel, where you end up with loads of tiny useless peaches if you let it flower on its own, but if you thin (on peach trees that's one flower every 8" or so) you end up with fuzzy beauties. 🍑

The root system can support a certain amount of flower weight at harvest, and you can either spread that weight out among loads of tops and larf, or you can get rid of the stuff you don't want and have the plant send all the growth hormones to what's left.

Thanks Shed!!! And for the link too. Sweet. I never grew a peach tree, but I get it and I'll take your word on the peaches.

:goof:

Of course, that begs the follow up question: when, in your opinion, is the best time to remove said growth?

I trim a little all through veg, but my big thinning comes a week before flip when I want to move all new growth to the tops (before and during stretch). Then I leave it alone until stretch is over (which we tend to call 21 days). At that point all fans stay but all lower growth that didn't make it to the canopy (or looks weak if it did) goes.

I try to make sure that my lowers don't have lowers themselves.

Ok, interesting. I was wondering about doing it before the flip or not. I also took three or four of my lower's lowers. Hear you on that. Thanks.

Hey @Bill284, wanna see what my first final trimmed Blueberry bud grown in coco looks like?

You made this.

THANKS.

Consolidated Update (duh...again, too obvious for me, lol)
Strawberry Lemonade
Flower Day 63
CJS Apple Blossom
Flower Day 16

Ok, let's start with the Strawberry Lemonade. Not much to say at this point, we are simply waiting on trichomes. I continue to feed her week 12 of the Fox Farms feed chart, plus Terpinator, plus molasses, every feeding. When I see the first legit amber or three and know we're down to two or three days I will flush her with Sledgehammer a couple times and chop her. But she continues to fatten and her trichomes continue to say not yet to me.

Here's a decent bud picture and a couple trichome pictures of the Strawberry Lemonade.

On to our Apple Blossom. Note that I continue to use the words "our" and "we." There's a reason for that, and it's simply that I couldn't do any of this without the help from many fronts that I so graciously get on here, so thanks you guys. She's a proud girl indeed. The 3x3 is filled, I even managed to work colas around the exhaust pipe that interferes with the square corner. I don't rotate her anymore, but I don't have to. I have this tent set up for maximum smallness of space, so I am working this plant from only the front door of the tent, and the entire setup is contained on one standard palate. In the new wheelchair I have access to everything. Definitely an advantage or two to the smaller tent, especially for one plant. It's perfect for that.

Here's how her canopy looks from overhead this morning.

And a side shot of said canopy.

Then I thought I'd show you guys my fan game for this plant. These next two pictures show the air flow coming from the bottom and the oscillating air flow across the top of the canopy. This is on top of the air coming in from the AC unit. So air flow is quite good in here. I have also found that having the filter/fan combo on the floor of the tent mitigates humidity more effectively than if it were above the light. Bonus I didn't see coming. In a couple weeks when there are actual buds I'll put in one more fan blowing down onto the canopy from above.

There you go. It's Friday! The weekend is on! Enjoy everybody.

Happy friday Jon...looking so nice :) and glad the new chair is making it a little easier for you.
Thanks @HappyHazmat88! And it does, a lot. Life changing independent of growing. Short of spending 5 figures for a sit to stand chair (which I don't have, lol) this is about as good as it gets.

LMAO

I didn't forget about our mystery girl in the mulch and spent soil pile, and she has a friend. I didn't see the friend at first, she must have sprouted around the same time as the first one. Too early to tell I guess but both of these look different to me. The one with the spider plant behind it is in about an inch of soil. The trash is also mine, dumb idiot me. It's taproot must have hit the sand by now. I wonder if it'll turn to the side at the sand and keep finding soil or if it'll go into the sand and attempt to feed from that? Either way I suspect it'll soon die. The other one, however, has plenty of good soil under it. I'm doing nothing to it, just watching her and letting her go to see what happens. So rainwater only and outdoor sun only, obviously, and that gives her around 11 1/2 or 12 hours of sun a day, half of which is useless to her cuz she's shaded for the beginning and end of the day. So hardly any light compared to if you actually grew a plant. I have no clue what will develop with this girl but it's fun to watch and check in on occasionally.

So here are the maybe-sisters, maybe-not-sisters from the top and side. The first plant is the one with adequate soil under it. Again, lmao.

CJS Apple Blossom
Flower Day 17

Ok, @InTheShed, this one's for you.
I'm sold. From everything you've said and a whole lot of other folks I respect who feel the same way, I went ahead and put my big boy pants on and took them. In the past, the two branches pictured I would have kept, as they were getting *enough* light, and I figured on a top bud from each of them. What's that, maybe a gram or two of bud max? For what? To rob energy from the real buds? You must be right. All I had to do was get over myself. Lol.

So here's the two branches I took. Btw - this is her actual color. The 420h tends to make the plants look a little lighter than they are and sort of neon-ish a little bit. But what an amazing green, exactly what I want going into flower. Again, I must say :adore: to the folks from @Prescription Blend. Just fabulous nutes. This is all them, I have done and will not do any adjusting or additions, with the exception of a hit or two of calmag (one so far), the MSA obviously, and later in flower some Terpinator and perhaps molasses. But I asked them about all of these specifically. I am definitively NOT flying blind in this regard this time, as I have enjoyed doing in the past. Not when the PB guys are so accessible and willing to help you out with any question. Thanks guys.

So Shed, if I have understood you correctly, we take those so that these will become all they can be, right?

As I compare the buds in the canopy to the buds on those two branches, it seems like such a no brainer that I'm kicking myself for not getting to this point sooner. Lol. You can clearly see the difference in development that just an 8" difference makes.

Thanks, Shed. You know stuff.

Don't be too hard on yourself Mr Jon. It's hard to cut off perfectly happy and healthy branches. It took me a while and now I go crazy haha. It's all about sacrificing the many small to give the few big much bigger :) but does take a strong spine hehe. You got this though dude. Your plants seem to always respond well to whatever you throw at them lol.

Right. And doesn't mean you can't use them or have to toss them in your compost pile. Try tossing the raw buds into a smoothie for the benefits of a little THC-A, use the leaves as a mulch on the top of your pots, etc.

Lol, thanks Moon, not too hard I don't think, just acknowledging that like so many things about growing, sometimes you gotta do stuff that may seem uncomfortable and/or counterintuitive. I well understand the greater good and the target here, I'm just learning how to hit it more often. Lol.
