Jon's First Outdoor Grow: Sugar Breath Photoperiod & Strawberry Banana Autoflower

Scenes from Cocotown
Flower Day 47

Listening to Two Souls in Communion, an old gospel tune that Pigpen used to sing with the Dead, from the Strand, Lyceum, from May 26, 1972, on the Europe 72 tour - wow, man, just wow. What a show, for earlyish Dead. Best show of the entire European tour I think. The girls in cocotown are swaying in the breeze in rhythm to it as we speak. I love playing music for my plants, and I truly believe they like it. Who says plants can't register the presence of music and respond to it? The vibrations are certainly hitting them. Betcha nobody here can prove otherwise. Lol. I go with it - they get a variety, heavy on the Dead and Bela Fleck.

So @Bill284, here's some pictures of the plants today on day 47 of flower. Still nobody ready yet but the Strawberry Lemonade is close-ish, and the Blueberry isn't too far behind her. The Dos Si Dos it appears is the sativa pheno, and clearly will be the last finisher in this tent. They are on week 11 of the Fox Farms feed chart having all just gotten a 9 gallon Sledgehammer flush as prescribed. I add molasses and Terpinator to every feed now.

These first two pictures are the Blueberry. I pulled a branch to the side to try to get a whole branch fattening up, and then a bud close-ish shot. Every day the colas come down a half a centimeter more or more. Lol. I stopped them now.

The next three are the Strawberry Lemonade, with a branch, a top, and a bud shot. Closest to being done this one.

The next two are the Dos Si Dos, a branch and a bud. @StoneOtter is right, this strain is SUPER frosty.

Then this last shot I was able to get a Strawberry Lemonade bud side by side with a Dos Si Dos bud for comparison. The picture is just okay, but the SL bud is on the left and the DSD bud is on the right.

Enjoy!!!

Not dead really. Composting;)
@StoneOtter, not sure if you intended the joke this way, but this is hilarious for so many reasons in Deadhead land. We crap on the version of the band playing now with John Mayer, it's a joke to real heads. Thus, they really aren't "dead," since the rest of the living band except for Phil is in this band - but it IS like they're composting and turning into crap. Haaaaaaaaaa! Well done, touche!

Btw - my first harvested Dos Si Dos auto, the indica one, has been curing since Christmas day, almost a month now, and the flavor especially is really changing and starting to come on. At first I got a bunch of undefined sour citrus and sugar in the background. Now that undefined citrus is beginning to define itself. To me, it honestly tastes like grapefruit. I smoked it this morning, and from a fresh palate, as I held and exhaled and tasted the hit, the very first thing I thought, strongly, was grapefruit! It tastes awesome. Can't wait to see how the photo compares to the auto harvest! I will be really interested to hear in a few months about the taste difference you get from your phenos, cuz I agree with you, it sure seems like you got two distinctly different ones, regardless of what name we hang on them.

Stretch/Flower Day 1

Normally I wouldn't post this today, it would be two or three days from the flip. But this girl is raring to go. We actually got about half an inch of visible stretch on the very first night of 12/12. That has never happened to me before, normally it seems they take a day or two to realize it's time to go. I was very surprised when I opened the tent this morning and saw actual stretch. It also happened reasonably evenly, albeit early, which would be nice if it kept up that way.

Here she is side and top. Not sure if you can see the stretch in the side shot, but it's there. In the top shot you can see how even this quickly the bud sites that want it more begin to define themselves. It's so fascinating to watch.

EDIT:
I brought up the intensity of the light today to give them a ppfd of around 1050 across the canopy. At the 900 they were at they wanted more, so we gave it to them. See how she likes it. The 420h in a 3x3 produces an almost perfect footprint across the entire 3x3 space. I'm at 1060 in the middle and 940 in the the very corners, over 1000 along all the sides. I'm hung at 22" above the canopy at less than 100% power by about a 1/6th of a turn of the dimmer (no marks or slots, guessing game on the actual % of dim). The dimmer is very sensitive, however, which is actually a real plus, as I found using my app that I was able to dial the ppdf in to within real increments as low as 10 at a time, which is really good compared to the average dimmer. Super happy with this light in a 3x3. In the 5x5 space it grew the Strawberry Banana autos in it was a bit overwhelmed and I had to keep the plants in the middle as if it were a 4x4 or 3x3 space to get the light I wanted at the height I wanted. Great product, especially for the money.

Flower Day 48

Just a quick good morning picture of cocotown as she wakes up at 58.1 degrees. These buds are getting very hard. I believe the colder temperatures have something to do with that.

Sounds yummy! It's the 2021 Leafly plant of the year for a reason! I can't wait to try it out!

I just read the article in Leafly. That's pretty cool. I haven't yet gotten the level of purple I'm seeing in many DSD photos, just a little at the end so far, but those were the autos. I'm hoping the photo will be more colorful with the colder temps and the fact that it's a photo. F1 by the way, fast flowering, which is in this case complete crap, lol. She's the furthest from being done.

My sativa leaner might be blushing purple in her trichomes but not any leaves yet. Nothing at all with the indica lady.

Heh. :bongrip:

First the bud, then the same bud when you get inside her a little. Again, I say heh. She's fattening up sweetly and you can see exactly where the new growth is sprouting through the bud. This strain smells heavenly on the vine, I can't wait. Enjoy the gratuitous porn.

Late super froster starting to get it on in the fattening stage.jpg

Heh, you dig that one? I'm in a change it up frequently mood lately since I found out how easy it is. It isn't as if anyone identifies me with the avatar, so why not change it up whenever? You'll see her again with recent pics. She's around 10 months now and still very much a puppy but beginning to show signs of adult dog. Ornery teen she is now. Except for me, she barks at my parents if they don't pet her and pay attention to her in her prescribed time frame of acceptable. It's so funny. I know I have to stop her from doing it but I get such a kick out of her listening to me and nobody else that I have let it go so far. Lmao.

Click on your avatar and then your name, and then you'll see "edit" in the bottom of the big avatar on the left (you gotta put your mouse on it to get it to say edit) . Just click and download a new photo. Piece of cake.

Thanks man, I didn't realize they were the reds. So you have four (looks like five) of these, so going with four you're hitting them with 36 watts of reds. That's probably near the sweet spot. @Emilya is doing a very interesting experiment on exactly this right now in her journal you might want to check out. I'll be real interested to see how those things do. It's a unique setup in my experience. So far so good, right?

From what I remember, the GE bulbs do contain a small component of far red light, and I would be curious to learn what that percentage is. The lights I am using are a combination of deep and far red light only, about 30 watts worth. My main lights also have a large percentage of red to balance them out into "full spectrum" and that runs full time, and that red part of the spectrum is a needed component. I am also convinced that timing is everything and that constant exposure to the red part of the spectrum does provide for more photosynthesis, but it does not provide nearly the benefit that deep and far red do when used for a short time before the lights come on and for another short time after the lights go off. It is this deep and far red with very specific timing that I am experimenting with in my LSD journal.

I was concerned about the red spectrum and also about 10w led's. These are all I could find that I didn't think would burn the plants. They're full spectrum but heaviest at 640-680nm. I have 4 total for 36 watts total. I have no idea if they'll help, they don't begin to cover the whole canopy.

I don't know if my last autos went so long in flower because I grew them so badly or because of a deficiency with the lights. However the photo that I grew well harvested at 66 days under these lights, with the GE reds added very late, and it's great.

I'll come visit you @Emilya, I grew LSD in my first successful grow along with Bubba Kush and I'm looking for seeds now. It was spectacular.

Take care my friends!

Cocotown
Friday Bud Porn #1
Dos Si Dos
Flower Day 49

The never ending quest to try and keep finding interesting pictures to show you guys continues. This morning I have kind of a cool shot of the Dos Si Dos. This picture shows her four "tiers" of buds in one shot, and these would be the tiers below the bent over cola. So weird to have a plant that was grown to be in the sun suddenly have to move to a tent. Of course I never would have trained a plant like this in a tent. Lol. But she's got so much light getting to everywhere that even the lowest tier buds (lowest node branches) are going to be productive. That said, I can already feel a difference in the density of the buds - the closer to the light, the denser they are. Duh. Anyway, here's the first porn salvo of the day.

Hopefully interesting DSD shot.jpg
