Jon's First Outdoor Grow: Sugar Breath Photoperiod & Strawberry Banana Autoflower

I have a story about an alligator. I grew up an awesome place in south Texas. You were literally minutes away from multiple bays, lakes and rivers. I was quite fond of fishing for catfish and caught some monsters. Catfish become cannibals when they reach monster proportions and I was losing twenty pounders every night. So I hooked up a live catfish and set a line. Ended up catching a thirteen foot gator. In a ten foot Jon boat. True story.

Boots and belt from that one?
Catfish get big but not that big, hehe 13 doesn’t fit into 10.
We used to get some big catfish, they can be a lot fun.

I would soiled myself in both those situations! (NTH and Jon)
Yup, I'm with Bill, maybe the snow ain't so bad.

But I did have a gator burger once...tasted surprisingly good :cheesygrinsmiley:

Now bear stories, or wolf stories I can go on and on...
Snakes, spiders, & gators? nope- HARD PASS!!!!!

Well I didn’t get in the boat but I did drag it to a sand bar and get some pics. I will see if I can find one.

We used big live perch and mullet on circle hooks and ten pound window weights. Tied to green mesquite limbs of other trees. Biggest was around 60 lbs. Caught big alligator gar around 150 pounds. No problem at all catching a few twenty pounders. We let the big ones go to make more babies.

A few lynx, and Bob cats in the general area, but fortunately closest I've come to was their tracks.
One area I used to go hunting in, the odd day I'd see fresh cat tracks over top my boot prints, meaning they had followed me for a bit. That's the closest to them I've come, and i haven't gone hunting for years now (since my health changed).

I had an alligator gar in our aquarium for a while.
Everyone loved it.
Close as I want to come to an alligator.
We had a 500lb bear looking in our bedroom once that was a great pic.
But as soon as you yell they usually run away.
Gators not so much.
Biggest fish I ever caught was a 10' blue shark.
In the middle of a hurricane of all things.
I got it up to the boat and said to the captain now what shoot it? Cut the line?
He said no its catch and release, we have to get it in the boat and remove the hook.
I just laughed and handed him the rod.

stay safe

Cool! Didja ever do the get in the river and catch them on the walls of the banks by hand thing? That always looked like fun on TV. Lol. Catfish I mean. Not alligators. You're the man and all, but you ain't taking on an alligator by hand. Lol.

No “noodling” for me.

NTH
I don't blame you.
Fek that in rivers with gators.
Those people are either very brave or nuts.
Stick your arm in a hole in the river bank.
Not a chance in hell.

Chocolope and CJS Apple Blossom
Day 10 Veg
A Tale of Two Seedlings....lol

Well, @cjsbabygirl1313, your namesake is doing just fine on Day 10 - she's exactly where she should be. The Chocolope, however, is struggling to be viable. Her leaves sprouted real weird and it looks like she's trying but not sure she's going to survive and make the cut. She's green and healthy and not overwatered or anything. Just came up like this. This is 10 days in and that's all she is so far. If she doesn't show me something by this weekend she's likely to get pulled and we'll pop another or something else. It happens. Not thrilled it happened with the Chocolope, but alas.

The nute regiment for the Apple Blossom, using @Prescription Blend nutrients and our new soil mix of soil, bokashi, frass and perlite, begins in a few days. Hopefully for Chocolope too, but we'll see where she is on the weekend. This evening, per Bill's instructions, I am making a tea from frass and bokashi. I will apply that tea once a week, with no nutes that feeding, to the coco girls and to these girls. This is, in the case of these two plants, in addition to the pots containing said frass and bokashi. I did not yet have the products to be able to prep the coco girls pots in the same manner, thus the tea. My first organic tea solution, I'm excited. Always fun to add another mad scientist-like element to a grow. Lol.

Here they both are:

Wow - the apple blossom does look good! Thanks again for a namesake; most sweet of you! (Note: the #s at the end are “313” not “1313” so I didn’t get a notification!)

Jeez, i think I have been doing that every time. I wonder how you've ever seen anything I wrote to you. Lol. Guess I'll get that right from now on. Duh. And yes, as soon as she has two sets of true leaves I'm excited to start the Prescription Blend nutes. Never tried them and lots of folks here speak highly of them.

No to worry! Im thinking next grow I may give them a go; noticed they can be used in hydro too

I just realized when I looked at your name what happened. I was stoned. Go figure. And the L in "girl" threw me and I thought in that moment it was a 1. That's probably what's happened every time, as I do tend to be stoned with some frequency. Lol.

BTW - The Hulkberry in my tent, that gorgeous plant that is going to by far outyield the other two, started out not too different than this Chocolope. I thought she was going to be a runt if she lived at all. And look at her now.

That's why I stick in with them. Sometimes they really surprise you when they start like this.

Agreed - my last runt blew her sister outta the water

Strawberry Banana #3 Autoflower, aka Bill
Day 80
Trichome Check and Bud Pictures
She's Almost Ready!

Well @Bill284, your namesake auto is almost ready to chop. Still have maybe three or four days. She started out so nice and symmetrical. Look how she ended up. Not so symmetrical. Lol. Just a mass of big, crowded, super fantastic buds on a smallish plant.

Here's some bud shots, a shot of the whole plant, and trichome pics.

Flower Day 44
Bud Shots and Trichome Check Pictures

\
So this morning when I moved the Raspberry Parfait around to her morning spot I noticed the lower large, old fan leaves are beginning to get cannibalized. They are doing the start to turn pale and yellow thing. This plant is finishing a lot faster than I anticipated. When I saw the leaves starting to turn (amazing, happened seemingly overnight) I decided to take some trichome pics. Wouldn't expect anything but clear trichomes. Boy was I wrong. We're already largely white with a few ambers. Crazy fast, today is day 44. It appears Humboldt was right - this plant will be lucky to make it 16 more days to 60. Looks like it's going to be ready in a week to ten days or so. The buds also look very close, although they are obviously in fatten up mode.

The plant is definitely NOT a high yielder. I'm surprised at the amount of buds there are. Thought it would make more and thought they'd be way bigger. No matter, just FYI. I already wouldn't grow this strain again no matter what the weed is like if for no other reason than that. I believe all my tent photos will outyield this big outdoor photo in a 7. It'll be great weed and I'm not complaining, just saying. It's a noticeably low yielder. Betcha I barely get a QP from her.

Here's some bud shots and the trichome pictures. You guys tell me if my assessment seems on or not please if anyone wishes to comment. Thanks.

Afternoon Bud Shots
Outdoor Flowering Photos

The Raspberry Parfait is finishing fast and getting more exotic looking seemingly by the hour. Never had a plant accelerate into end mode this quickly. Very interesting.

The Pineapple Upside Down Cake is one I'm super excited about. My very first grow, before I found 420, I thought I was growing this strain, which is the ORIGINAL strain to be named PUC. Surfr Seeds then started selling a different hybrid and also called it PUC. When I got the dispensary eighth that held the "bagseeds" that became my first grow, it was PUC. I thought it was the Humboldt as that was the only one I was aware of. I could tell halfway through when the odor began that it was different, so I checked with the dispensary and found that they grew the Surfr version. Great, but not what I was shooting for. This is the terpene profile I get super excited about. Here's what Humboldt says about it:

This new strain from Humboldt Seed Company sets the bar high for unique terpene profiles. The product of a vast 2017 phenotype hunt in Humboldt County, Pineapple Upside Down Cake smells exactly like its name. The effect is immediately rewarding, uplifting, and spiritual. The Trainwreck sativa brings a sharp loudness and the indica balances its energetic effect. Said to lift spirits, Pineapple Upside Down Cake really takes the cake when it comes to new and exciting strains.

It's Pineapple Trainwreck x Cookie Monster, 60/40 Sativa/Indica hybrid

And if you watch the video in the seed info on their site, the dude talks about how it smells so much like pineapple upside down cake that it even has the slight cherry smell from the one little piece of fruit you find on actual pineapple upside down cake. He raves about it and gives a bunch more info on the pheno hunt.

Today is the first day I saw little cotton balls forming on the Strawberry Banana Fast Flowering plant. Today is Grow Day 50 and Flower Day 14 for her, so it took two whole weeks of stretch before seeing these emerging buds. That's longer than it took the RP and PUC to begin to show, just FYI reference point.

Here's some pretty decent bud shots. I liked these for a change. The light this time of day is good for pictures.
