Jon's First Outdoor Grow: Sugar Breath Photoperiod & Strawberry Banana Autoflower

Yield Report
Strawberry Banana #1

Well, I can't post an "official" yield. I fu--ed it up, lol. I smoked all the flarf and several of the smaller buds already. Lol. I mean the final trimmed smaller buds that were part of the yield. A bunch of them.

So...the best I can do is estimate, and in the spirit of fair play we'll estimate on the low side. I'm SURE I've smoked a half an ounce of finished buds that would have been in the jar. At least. But we'll call it a half ounce. (You would too if all you had to smoke was the Chunkadelic....lol) What you see is an ounce and a half. So we'll call it two ounces, even though it was more than that.

That's our first number of the outdoor grow....2 zips. Not a lot. But MAN is it high quality. Smoke report in a couple weeks. Strawberry Banana #2 is next up and she's in the drying closet. Nobody else is ready to harvest yet.

1. Weed in the jar
2. The jar, for perspective, note the tip of a stem sticking out the top
3. This is a bud next to the container a dispensary eighth comes in for perspective....sweet ass fat buds, all of them (the ones left, lol)
4. Here's a closeup of what I'm now trying not to smoke

Thats some nice looking buddage you got going on my friend! And those jars DO look pretty badass! (What size jar is in that pic? 17 or 34 oz?)

That is a 500 ml. jar. For two zips or more you usually have to use the bigger ones. The SB began in a big one. Lol. I smoked it down to this size. This size holds the z and a half in the pics if the buds are big like these, and if they're smaller can hold up to two z's. More than that I go to the bigger size.

Kewl! I am thinking about getting a couple when I get closer to the day Liv comes down. My chalkboard stickers and white ink would look awesome labels on those!

Interesting Pheno Comparison Photo

I was checking on the girls and noticed these were right next door to one another and presented an opportunity to compare. Both are Dos Si Dos autos from the same seed packet. Two different phenos to my eye. The one on the left has the classic thin sativa-esque leaves with slightly fatter large fan leaves and sharper points on the leaf edges. The one on the right has what I *think* is the hybrid look - somewhere in between the thin sativa and the fat indica leaf realm, with softer points on the outside of the leaves. But clearly different from one another. This is all I can compare since they're not in the same soil or same size pots or getting the same nutes.

Thoughts?

Which one has the bigger pot?

I have bud envy!
Lol. I envy every bud you grow! The Raspberry Parfait is advertised by Humboldt as a 60 day flower. That would put her only 17 days out. Hercolor tells me that's about right. We'll see. I'd love it if it were 60 days. I am going to be a busy boy shortly - the last three autos in the NextLight rig, the three photos in the tent, and the two photos in these pictures are ALL going to harvest in the next month or so, and right after them the four outdoor autos are going to be close. I'll be in trim jail for a bit, and I can't WAIT. That Raspberry smells so much like raspberries it's uncanny. You ever grow Blueberry? You know how that strain smells EXACTLY like a blueberry patch? Well this RP is the same but raspberry. I'm shocked at how right on the terpene is. Humboldt said as much. Here's what they say about the pheno hunt:

Via 2017’s collaborative phenotype hunting by Rising Leaf Farms in Oregon, we were alerted to a plant from an R&D seed batch we had made from a Shishkaberry mother and Trufula Tree father. On a visit with Jennifer and Jason of Rising Leaf, we experienced first-hand the magical genetics of this gorgeous plant with its special terpene profiles and effects. Now we are able to release Raspberry Parfait, another balanced breakfast strain from Humboldt Seed that’s destined for fame!

And if you watch the video on this strain on the HSC site, the dude talks all about how strong and accurate the raspberry is on this strain, and how long the terpenes last in the cure. He says basically forever. It isn't going to be the highest yielding strain ever - the PUC buds are basically already bigger and more stacked, but MAN will it be high quality. I always claim to only care about quality and not yield, but honestly, until I had 18 active plants it was kind of wishful thinking. Lol.

Thanks man. She's a pretty beast. And obviously she knows a thing or two about generating frost.

Hey a question: do outdoor plants develop more frost than LED plants due to the sun? Sure seems like it. Maybe it's just this strain, but the PUC is frosty as hell too already.

Natural sunlight uv rays gives them a sun burn so their response is to grow more and bigger trics for protection.
That's why led's come with uv lights now and IR.
Just like the sun.

Awesome. Yeah, mine have them, I just never considered it from that perspective before. Cool. I guess that's why they seem to color up faster than LED plants too? And does that also account for my dark stems? The main stem on the RP is purple!

I found the cooler night temps helped them color up more.
But it's probably warm at night in your neck of the woods, or should I say palm trees, hehe

No actually it gets quite chilly overnight. We average about 55 this time of year. It's gotten as low as 51. That's lower than I dare go in my tent to get colors! So likely what you're saying is the case for these girls too....mid to low 50s is just about perfect for generating color without interrupting the functions of the plant.

What's that in real degrees, hehe
Lots of color and jumbo tric's you have the perfect environment.
I had to move my pot to the boiler room poor little auto.
I think it froze on the window ledge last night. Brrr

Coco Photos State of Play
Day 37 Veg

I told you I was going to nail these coco plants on my very first try in coco and do it without issue. I intend to keep my word. They look better than my wildest imagination. The nute mix and percentages of volume of each are now fully dialed in (in my opinion - tell me if you see something that says otherwise please....) Your call to up the nutes beyond the FF suggestions was right on, and very surprisingly, they LOVE it. No burns. I was real hesitant to do that but you were, of course, right. Everything is upped across the board approximately 25%, with the exception of the Kelp Me Kelp You. I kept that at 1/4 tsp as directed because I am also adding the Blue Planet Easy Weed seaweed supplement. Also, I stay on the same nute mix until I flip them, ie, week 4 of the FF feed chart. Which is awesome, I can almost add the ph up with a blindfold on an get really close to 5.8. Which, btw - one of the things I'm doing to make sure I nail this is adhering like a madman to your 5.8 edict. I saw you tell Kanno or someone that it was very important to get as close as possible every time to that number. Well, let's say I'm Ph-ing plain water to 6.3. If I come in at 6.23 or 6.37, I let that go. Not a big deal in the slightest. BUT, you seemed a bit fanatical about it as it applies to coco, so I took that and ran with it. I get it close, and then go DROP BY DROP until I get to 5.8 exactly. Most of the time I can get the pen readings to stabilize within .03 of this number before I say enough is enough. That's a pain in the ass. But I LOVE coco. My god, I don't even care about the work load. This is simply amazing. I'm going full training next time on one in a 15 and make myself a gigantic bush! I have already realized that I CAN make a huge outdoor just as big in volume as your Jack Herer - I just have to train it to stay under six feet tall. That's a piece of cake, even in coco. These remain untrained by design, as are all the outdoor photos this time. I wanted to make sure my first outdoor experience I let the plants just do what it is they'd do so that I had that in the bank. Seemed like good base knowledge to have, and regardless I knew I'd have more buds than I knew what to do with.

So regarding the flip and when to do it - like I said, I was gonna let them get 3 feet tall. That'll give me 6 or 7 foot plants, which I can handle. The RP is that tall. (Thank you, new electric raise up wheelchair!!). If I let them go beyond that, I fear I won't be able to attend to the plant in flower the way I want to. I don't want those goddamn eggs everyone is so psyched to see pop in Shed's (?) journal. Lol. And I need to be able to reach all the branches for foliar spraying the Flower Kiss. So does that sound about right? Three feet then flip? I mean, you won't tell me they stretch twice as far in coco too, will you? LOL.

Here you go.

Coco for the win.
No the stretch is the same in coco.hehe.
So you should be good.
It's a bit more work but I didn't mind, stuff is awesome.
It also takes the guess work out of a grow.
What you put in is what you get out.
Soil is a feken pain to me.
They react so differently in soil.
Takes for ever so slow.
But coco and air pots frass & bokashi = rocket fuel.
No lake in the background today?
Any gators around there?

Oh yeah, there's gators galore. They've ruined my fishing more than once. I even hooked one once by accident. I was fishing bobber and worm, just to go way back to where it all began, and here comes the alligator. Drawn to the disturbances from the stuff hitting the water on the cast. I figure, he's only a five/six footer, I can fish around him and not worry. So I cast back out and the bobber lands within five feet of him. He was on it before I could close the spin cast reel. He grabs my bobber and starts the roll and toss thing that they do, and somehow manages to end up with the hook in his mouth. He's hooked. So I messed around with him until he had enough and snapped my line. As long as his feet couldn't hit the bottom I was actually able to reel him in towards the shore. That was fun. He didn't like it at all. Lol. As soon as his feet touched, he said screw me, gave a strong jerk, and was gone. With my bobber of course, which I guess he ate. Lol. When a 10-12 footer comes around, which happens occasionally, the neighborhood association will call an alligator disposal firm (there's tons of them here of course) and have him culled. Great sport watching that. They are protected and beautiful in their own way, but screw those damn reptiles, I hate them. When I was a kid and used to come down here once a year to visit grandma, seeing an alligator was the shit. Now...not so much. I could outrun one then. Lmao!

Your going to need a rifle to go fishing.
I couldn't imagine what a pain they are.
If I had to worry about being bit every time I went to the river or even in the yard checking the girls fek I'd just shoot the dam things and make boots.
Nooooo thank you.
Keep your warm winters I'll take not being eaten any day.

Thus....yet another reason I'm moving back to PA. At least they're apolitical. Not much is besides me down here.
