JimmieJ's First Grow - Closet - Soil - Bag Seed - CFLs

That was a nanner you found Jimmie, and HOZ was right on the seed pod forming. If you have nanners, you're going to have pollen. It won't be near as much pollen as a regular male plant would produce, nanners on females work a little differently. BUT, where there's a nanner...there's going to be pollen.

I would move it away from anything you don't want to take a chance on. Nanner + Seed forming calyx = possible pollination of other girls. I've had this happen, a couple nanners...a little breeze from a fan....pollen gets around. Just my humble opinion.

Your plants are looking good. Congrats on getting the soil going too. You're going to be very happy with that!

:circle-of-love:

Thanks Canna! I'm not sure what to do with the nanner girl. I don't have anywhere else to put her, so I guess I either have to take my chances or harvest early. I'm really not sure how much longer she needs to flower before the trichomes start changing. Advice welcome. :thanks:

How long before the breeders' suggested time on the flowering? I'll have to go back and check, is it bagseed?
In the meantime, be diligent on inspecting for the nanners. They start out very very small and can be hard to spot. The one you showed is only part of one, they come in three sections (if my memory servers me correctly) I'll have to check my photos.

The Chillin 1 is where the nanner came from. She still looks very white on the pistils, so it looks like it's going to be a while. I don't see a lot of red or brown pistils there yet.

Could put a plastic bag over her head. LOL

Other than keep watching and plucking any you find, I don't have any other answers for ya on that. :)

I decided to try a DIY cloner. I picked up a fish tank pump, I had the rest of the stuff. No idea if it's going to work or not, but I have nothing to lose!

Supplies

The dang tubing would not allow the bubble stone to sit at the bottom, so I decided to anchor it with a clay pot. I drilled a small hole in the side of the peanut bucket for the tubing.

Bubbles!

Some pipe insulation. My theory was to make holes small enough to squeeze the insulation shut.
GEDC16301.JPG

I made the holes too big the first time. Good thing peanuts are a favorite munchie of mine, I had an extra lid to try again. Success!

I don't have any plants that have anything suitable for a cutting at the moment, so I took a fan leaf. The stem slid right in. If it roots, I can pop the foam out and unroll it, hopefully not damaging any roots. I don't expect anything on this one. It's a crappy looking fan leaf from a flowering plant. I don't even know if fan leaves root like a good cutting does.

Now I've never seen a bubble cloner in action, so I don't know if the bubbles are the right size. I feel little splashes of water when I put my face right up to the opening. Anyone know if that's about right?

It is bagseed so I have no idea what the flowering time should be. Today starts the 7th week in flower. I don't mind inspecting it, it gives me an excuse to take it out of the closet and admire it! :laughtwo:

Know what? Yes...you can get a fan leaf to root. LOL Problem is, it will never grow up to be anything except a leaf with feet.

I say leave it there and see if it works just for fun. :)

Oh, and yep...if you're feeling little splashes of water it's working. Good job. :)

Also, (I keep remembering chit here. LOL) people will tell you to make the jar dark. Roots don't like light.
I just wrapped a black plastic bag around my white bucket cloner and it works just fine.

Canna! I was going to say the same thing  HEREis a tutorial I made on cloning using an Aero-cloner. Bubble will do the same, but you need to take your cutting from a lower branch, it even works with flowering plants, but better to take cuttings from a declared female.

My first clone is from Chillin 1. It started to decline after I transplanted it, it was getting light green and the leaves are long and very skinny, unlike her mother. It's improving finally, growing and the color is coming back. The leaves still aren't identical to the mother, and I know that clones are, well... clones, so under good conditions they would match. I'll see what I can figure out with that to make her happier.

Anyhow, this little girl is throwing out pistils already, at every node. Is this common for a clone, and will it continue to veg normally, or is it possible that the bag seed of the mother could be an auto? It's never been under 12/12 so I didn't trigger this. Which reminds me... my timer has not been shutting off reliably. I'm going to go change it out right now while I'm thinking about it. THANKFULLY the bad timer is in the veg closet and not the flower closet.

It's not uncommon to have preflower pistils. If the mother plant is not an auto, then no worries unless that clone starts going into full flower mode. Was the mother of the clone under 12/12? Again, I'm going to have to go back...but it seems like it was put in flower?

If you have a timer issue, that can stress and confuse your plants for sure. :)

Okay, yes the mother is Chillin 1...in flower.

Now, how big is the pot that the clone is in? The clone looks to be getting pretty big, you might check the roots if you can and transplant to something bigger. I can't really see how big that pot is.

Just a suggestion.

Great minds? LOL
I love my DIY cloner, I started out making an Aero cloner and wound up with a bubble cloner.

HI Jimmie, reps are what people give you by clicking on the little sheriff's badge under the member name at the bottom of the post. It's next to the little triangle to report a post.
When a member gives you +reps it affects your green bars under your name. More reps = more recognition status.
You can see what a member "repped" you with by clicking on "user cp" and then "notifications". There you see reps or likes.

Hope that helps!

:circle-of-love:

Fabulous DIY cloner!!! +reps on that for sure!

:circle-of-love:

I have to spread some reps around before it will let me. LOL

+reps, I added reps for that one!, DIY cloner looks great even to a newer grower like me! Way to go Jimmie!

Great tip, Canna! I can't imagine trying to do this all on my own. I'd never get all the details right. Thanks for that piece of advice, it's stuff like this that is going to help me be able to grow all my own meds.

I have foil duct tape - the only duct it's ever been used on is my charcoal filter/fan. :laughtwo:

I cut up a black trash bag, and as I was thinking about which tape to attach it with, I remembered the foil. :cheertwo:

This should do it!

Yes, that should do it just dandy. :) Keep an eye on your water level too, it will evaporate with time.

How coincidental, when I put the bag on my bubble cloner a couple years ago the only tape I could find was a roll of furnace foil tape.

I looked at the link and your aero cloner is sweet Hoz!!! Now I want to do that, but I will have to wait for a bit. What do the net pots do? Comb the roots so they don't get tangled?

I am fortunate that my clones are all from girls. I took them before I knew the sex of the mothers, and luck was on my side - regarding sex AND the fact that they survived. I didn't take a cutting from the only male I've had. I still have one unknown, but it's not healthy enough to take a cutting anyway, and I now have three female clones and three flowering girls so I'm quite content to leave things like they are right now! :thumb:
