I think I have my air cleaner situation done, and on a budget!
My furnace has a central humidifier on it, but I haven't used it in years because it's high maintenance and if it's not emptied and cleaned after heating season, mold and mildew start collecting in the standing water. Looking at the shape of the carbon filter that Smokey has made me think of the humidifier. I thought that if I could take the inner wheel and put some carbon filter next to the water pad, then adapt it to a 6" pipe, I'd be set. So that's what I did.
Supplies
The carbon is exactly 4x the size of the water pad from the humidifier. I have 4 filters worth of carbon
Assembled
Installed
It works with no loss of airflow! I even folded the kleenex in half to see if it would hold
I think I'll light a stick of incense in the closet and see if the carbon is doing its job. I don't know how effective these flat pieces of carbon are, so this is just a cheap experiment.
