JimmieJ's First Grow - Closet - Soil - Bag Seed - CFLs

Thanks Smoke. What you just explained about the leave agrees completely with what I have been reading lately, and it's nice to see that. I wasn't so much asking about the leaves as I was asking: if the plant goes to hell soon... is the bud in the picture going to make it through so I can at least get good and baked for all the time and expense that I have put into her?:lot-o-toke:

I'm just too new to say, but like I said, Someone will help you but probably not tonight. It seems everyone here is on the time zone that's a couple hours ahead of me and since it's already 11:09 PM here, I'm guessing that a lot of them are in bed. But who knows? Someone might still be up that could help you. I just wish I could! Sorry!

I know that pH problems can lock nutes out and I absolutely don't want that. I want to know where my pH stands, but I'm having a hard time getting a definite answer. I think I'm on the right track here, but just can't be sure. Here goes anyway.

My tap water (sitting out to evap whatever it can) comes in at about 7.6, maybe a little higher

The water with added nutes comes in around 7.19875, give or take, hehehe
GEDC1462.JPG

The runoff comes in at about 6. This is from Handy Dandy 1. The girls that had the worm dinner couldn't be tested because the runoff was too dark.

That's all I have. I don't know what to do with this information but ideas are welcome.

You water was way too high going in and came out a touch low to perfect. - I would do nothing! different with the water PH before harvest.

Thanks Smoke - it definitely helps. Is this the one you have? It says it's 6 inch, but is it the opening that's 6"? If it is, that is perfect because my inline fan that I just installed is 6". What type of fan are you using? The one that I installed does fine, but it's going to a 2nd floor closet, and the ducts twist and turn on the way up, so I can't afford any big restrictions. I need to be sure that this lets air flow freely before spending that much.

Also, can you replace the charcoal? That is a little pricey if it's a one time deal.:thanks:

These are the magic devices which clean aroma from the air.

Magic comes at a price.

To extend the life of a charcoal filter, you can wrap 2/3 of it with removable tape (blue painter's tape) or plastic wrap (Glad Press 'n Seal) or the plastic wrapper the fliter ships in. When you start noticing aromas many months later, you can then peel off 1/3 more, and more months later the final 1/3.

If possible, pay attention to the fan speed and suction on kleenex at your vent. If it goes down too much, it will be putting an extra strain on the fan.
Depending on how expensive the fan is, you might want to use a rheostat (speed controller) to slow down the fan electrically and extend the fan life.

6" is the opening.

That girl is most certainly going to make it to the finish line and it's still early so I some what know of what I speak...;)....:circle-of-love:

Thanks for reassuring me Dennise. I keep getting these thoughts that something will go wrong and wipe me out before I even harvest. I can't wait till this first grow is over and I'm on to the next, using proper soil etc.

I like the emphasis on doing nothing - thanks Rad! Knowing that this is looking good, I can get one of those pens that Dennise has and use it on the girls that have dark runoff. This sample was taken on the healthiest girl, so it will be a relief if I find that they're all buffering the same.:thanks:

Good idea on covering sections. Getting one of these once a year is doable if that's how it would work out.

The fan I got was about $25 and I expect it to last a while. It's designed to run in heat ducts with up to 140F temps blowing through it, so having room temp air going past it should allow me to stress it a little with no ill effects. I think. It's not really powerful enough to need to reduce the speed. Without looking at the box, I think it does 240 cfm.

6" - it was made for my fan! :thumb:

She looks good. Shes just lookin for a little N. Thats why she is cannibalizing the viable nutes in some lower leaves. Some do this more than others. Its completely normal. ImO ya are doin fine and she has no detrimental problems. :thumb: :high-five:

Well, she got her N last night so that piece should be fine for now. The worms are slow release also, right? I'm assuming that I can just kick back now and know that they're doing what they need to do.

Appreciate the input as always, Logger. :thanks::high-five:

I'm laid back like you are as far as chatting on my journal - you are welcome to go back and forth, I like the conversation. As far as diabetes, I have a family history of it and it could hit me at any time, so awareness is a plus.

I was hoping that I wouldn't need to worry about pH, but since I'm beginning to have issues, I need to dial in to what it is, whether it's pH related or not.
Someone jump in and tell me that this little beauty is going to make it to the finish line, and I'll sleep well tonight.:thumb:
GEDC1468.JPG

100% she makes it.

Leaves yellow. My White Widow, Caramelicious, Hawaiian Skunk, and Borderliner all lose almost all their fan leaves by harvest.
Trimming goes faster. The worms don't have to wait as long for leaf food.

She'll be fine :)

Dennise may have been talking about a pen for PH'ing water.

I believe your kit was for PH'ing soil, which seems to be a much more complicated thing. Commercial farmers send their soil to a lab to be PH tested along with NPK testing and other stuff. PH'ing your soil puts you in the elite 5% or so of 420 members - like having your buds tested for cannabinoids and terpenes.

You're doing great.

Can't wait! I can go back to using the MG a few times a year on the house plants!

In this soil, it might be wise to use some flowering nutes - just a small amount because you will only use them for a few weeks -
I only used flowering bottled nutes for my first grow, so I don't really understand their use, but I got a good solid harvest with them.

or

bobrown14 does a simple Integrated Pest Management / flowering nutrient support recipe every 3 days during flower. This will be grreat with your new soil, but would probably help your current girls along through flower. bobrown14 knows how to grow :)

His 3 ingredients + water recipe is here - you might make up 1/8th of a gallon (a pint) instead of the full recipe.

IPM = 1 pint water, 1/3 tsp(1.7 ml) Monterey Garden Insect Spray (spinosad), 1/8 tsp(0.6 ml) Pro-tekt , 1/2 tsp (2.5 ml) Fulpower.
Spray as foliar spray with a 1 gallon garden sprayer.

Cottage 420's Organic Perpetual Indoor Garden

Personally, I spray every 3 days with 1 qt water, 1 tsp neem oil, and a dash of concentrated soap as a straight bug spray
- but I want to add Pro-tekt and especially Fulpower after this grow for flowering nutrition.

I think the pen is what I want. I was trying to pH my soil by testing the runoff water using the test tube kit, but not knowing what I was supposed to be seeing. I do have the kit where I can test a soil sample, but for that I have to dig deeper for samples (2-3") than I'm comfortable with, with these plants being in smallish pots.

Thanks for the confidence, I appreciate it. I'm just trying to treat the girls right so they take care of me.

The MG 15-30-15 that I've been using all along is the exact formula of the current bloom booster in the store, so I'm not really sure what I should change if I go with plan 1. I do have some Bloom Plus 10-54-10 and tomato food 2-7-4. I can see the frustration all around with people using MG on MJ and why no one recommends it. There are too many formulas and variables.

Plan 2 has pest management. That's good to see because pests hadn't even occurred to me yet, and I'm sure that summer will bring all kinds of goodies that might smell my girls and try to get to them. I'm going to save that link and look at it when I get time. Today I'm going to try and get the ingredients for my new soil.:thumb:

Jimmy whats up brother dude. I have done a grow with MG (boxed water soluble ferts) Ill do a lil break down of how these work in comparrison to FF. MG Bloom Booster (15-30-15) the 15-30-15 npk ratio is the ratio for maximum single feed 1.5 tbsp (outdoor) so indoor plants call for 1/2 tbsp per gal. this makes your ratio 5-10-5.. FF Grow Big is npk 6-4-4. This is the ratio for 1 tsp (5ml) most feedings call for 2 tsp This now doubles the npk to 12-8-8 making the 2 tsp dosage of Tiger Bloom 4-16-8. So if you were to stick with MG vs FF The npk for General Purpose plant food will be 8-3-5 Bloom Booster 5-10-5 and Tomato Food 6-6-9. Pretty close to the "big names" huh? I use GP for the first weeks before flower for 2 weeks or so. (after week 2 usually at 1/2 dose 2.5-5-2.5) Then its obviously onto BB after I see flowering has begun. 4 weeks of this then bamm! Tomato food for my turtle food for 2-3 weeks then its flushin time. Hope this helps out any1 (even yourself brother) who has wondered about MG ferts. :thumb:

Howdy Logger! Thanks for that info. I didn't know that the higher numbers just meant a higher concentration. So if I needed a 1-2-1, I could adjust 15-30-15 accordingly? That's how I'm reading it. Very good info. Now I think I'll switch to tomato food for the duration unless someone tells me otherwise. The girls are going into week 6 of flower so I guess I need to do this to get some bud building food.
