JimmieJ's First Grow - Closet - Soil - Bag Seed - CFLs

I think the normal pH for your plant is something like 6.8 and I really should know this but I'm not sure if I'm dead on but i'm close... I have only dealth with it a few times and I have a pH pen that does it all for me......:circle-of-love:

Ugh. If only it was that easy with a plant. I just bought a new tester that tests pH, but you can't just shove it in. It sure looked like that's how it would work, but nope. You have to take a soil sample, dry it, crumble it, remove the junk, run it through a filter, and THEN you can begin the test. I'm returning it.

Thanks Smoke - it definitely helps. Is this the one you have? It says it's 6 inch, but is it the opening that's 6"? If it is, that is perfect because my inline fan that I just installed is 6". What type of fan are you using? The one that I installed does fine, but it's going to a 2nd floor closet, and the ducts twist and turn on the way up, so I can't afford any big restrictions. I need to be sure that this lets air flow freely before spending that much.

Also, can you replace the charcoal? That is a little pricey if it's a one time deal.:thanks:

Yes, that's the kind I have, I'm not sure about buying it as a generous benefactor got it for me. The hole on mine is 4" but they come in different sizes. But if it says it's 6", I would assume it is. You can't change the charcoal, but it's supposed to last at least a year, I've heard of others lasting longer. But don't forget you might also need the fan depending on your set up. I think you said it already draws in, right?

If ya growin in soil, well water, stream water, pond water.... Works well.. r/o water... NOPE. Ya need to maintain between 6-7 on ph. r/o is usually 5 and change. Soil contains ph buffers to keep ph from RAISING not dropping. Keep her a lil above 6 and sail away my friend. :thumb:

Thanks Logger. So are you saying to ignore the pH of the runoff, and pay attention to what I put in? Or do I want to keep the runoff a lil above 6? I have sump pump water that I could be using. I think that would be closer to well, stream, pond water than city tap water. :thanks:

You need the fan and filter but yes the filters are replacable.... I have not yet had to replace either of mine.. Actually I don't have either of mine up... apparently I care less about the smell than even I knew... anyhow I am 99% sure... but let me check cramazon cause my record so far tonight is kinda blowing....:circle-of-love:

Hmmm... if I need a fan to go with the filter, then that, with the fan I just installed, should be perfect. I'll look into it some more.

I love the smell. I wish I didn't have to get rid of it!

Cramazon. I love it. :thumb:

Oh most certainly return it and go back to cramazon and they are not expensive at all and get a digital pH pen... you stick it in the run off and push a button... even I can do it........:circle-of-love:

I thought you were talking about a pH thing for diabetes. If they have such a thing where all I have to do is push a button, bingo! That's what I want. I'd love to test the plants with dark runoff that the liquid thing doesn't work on.

Well (sump water) would be the best bet. Municipality water (city/town/village etc) water is heavily chlorinated. If you would drink it from the well I can bet the turtle lettuce will love it. I did most of my grow with "city" water. just under 70 ppm iron lime calcium. But it was always 7.2- 8.0 MG dirt with PH balance (gypsum) never a problem. Usually most dirt will sieve, filter, buffer to right around 6.5. If your run off is 6 then im sure the soil is doin just fine my friend. :thumb: ( completely ignore everything i just said if you are using DBHBB or LOS)

p.s. If im thinkin of the sump water you might be using. ( wet basement??) That would be more thn fine. Its filtered surface run off. Great stuff. Let sit in the room for a day to reach room temp though. Ya never wanna shock the roots with uber cold water. :thumb:

Nope I was wrong and you are right... I am way to stoned to be thinking medical and I lost my mind....:Namaste:....:circle-of-love:

Thanks Dennise, I just got done looking it up after my PC crashed and figured out my training was correct, but thank you for stating it, because I wasn't going to correct you. (Your too good a friend to do that to):high-five:

Great! I had a feeling sump water would be better than tap, but wanted another opinion on it before I switched. I wouldn't drink it though. The pit holds clear water from the water table when there's no rain, and it fills with brown water from the drain tiles during rain. It pumps a few times a day so it's not stagnant. Water is always there, even during the hottest part of summer, but then it never rises enough to get pumped out. I won't switch over until I see what the worm amendment does. Good info on how dirt buffers, too. Thanks for that.:thumb:

I know what you mean, Mine aren't smelly at all, but I do love it when I first put my head into the tent in the morning and get a good whiff of them.

Originally Dennise and I were talking about diabetes, sorry about that! Didn't mean to crash your party! But Dennise did come back on topic with the pen she was talking about. That's used for soil PH from what I understand. My mentor told me that with his soil, I didn't have to worry about PH and since the plants are growing so well, I know he's right!

I'm laid back like you are as far as chatting on my journal - you are welcome to go back and forth, I like the conversation. As far as diabetes, I have a family history of it and it could hit me at any time, so awareness is a plus.

I was hoping that I wouldn't need to worry about pH, but since I'm beginning to have issues, I need to dial in to what it is, whether it's pH related or not.
Someone jump in and tell me that this little beauty is going to make it to the finish line, and I'll sleep well tonight.:thumb:

Since I still haven't even harvested a single plant yet, I'm way to new to soothe your nerves about your girl. But I'm sure someone will let you know or ask more questions about her and give you an answer. But since it's late, it might not be until tomorrow, But I was told that in the plant community, there is seldom ever an immediate concern since everything moves along so slowly (Unlike people).

I too was asking questions about stuff when I started my journal and learned that lesson pretty quick. I guess I mean that it's most likely not going to die tonight if it does have a problem, But if your just talking about the color of the leaves, I was also told that in flower mode the plant feeds on the leaves to and some have a tendency to turn yellow and fall off while in flower. At least that's what I was told. I'm no expert on weed, that's for sure! But since I did defoliate my girls so heavily and they are doing so good, I doubt the leaves pose an emergency. I wish you good luck buddy! Wish I could help.

Thanks Smoke. What you just explained about the leave agrees completely with what I have been reading lately, and it's nice to see that. I wasn't so much asking about the leaves as I was asking: if the plant goes to hell soon... is the bud in the picture going to make it through so I can at least get good and baked for all the time and expense that I have put into her?:lot-o-toke:
