JimmieJ's First Grow - Closet - Soil - Bag Seed - CFLs

Lookin good Jim. She looks like she could use just a lil N.. Maybe toss her a lil worm shit and water in well. Cal/mag is also a definite. She needs it. Every fan leaf feeds a stalk at a bud site. She seems to just need a lil lunch buddy. :thumb:

Thanks Logger, I will pick some up tomorrow after work and give it a shot!

I agree with STIHL LOGGER,
She needs some food. It's okay for a lower leaf or two to yellow in time, but you have a lot of them there in higher areas, and there is some brown crispy going on with them as well.

Worm poo would be great. And Cal/Mag I always keep on hand. Some plants need more than others. Possibly a lack of phosphorus as well. I'm going to find the link to the plant deficiency chart so you can take a look and compare notes on what you have there.

:thumb:

Check out this post for some plant problem solvers. There are a lot of charts out there to look at for deficiencies, this is just the one I came across fairly quickly.

Cannabis Plant and Pest Problem Solver - Pictorial

Thanks Canna! I will do as you and Logger suggest. I feel like I sinned by using MG, and that by using it, I've complicated the diagnosis and recovery. No worries though, it's my first grow. I'm going to get some buds, and if there's anything I learned, it's that on your first grow you WILL make mistakes. Unless you're Smokey. That dude has a green thumb that he must have gotten from the Jolly Green Giant.

I'll study worm shit and cal/mag, and if I have any doubts I'll run it across my journal before doing anything. The girls should be thirsty tomorrow so the timing will work out well. :thumb::thanks:

Clone update. From left to right: Peggy, Chillin 1 Clone, Handy Dandy 1 Clone.

Peggy and Handy Dandy 1 Clone made it without their domes for a couple hours today with no major wilting. This was the turning point that I feel they needed to reach. Now they'll grow and will be ready to transplant when I think they have a good root system. As long as they don't start looking like Chillin 1 Clone. She's getting lime green and the leaves are long and skinny, unlike her mother. I'm going to get some worm shit and cal mag and apply to her and see how it goes. I now have three girls in flower and three girls in veg. I'm very happy. Oh and the ugly duckling which is still unsexed. I honestly couldn't care less if it turns out to be a male, but we'll see.

My flower closet is starting to smell pretty strong. I don't think I smelled it at first because I had an obnoxious plugin scented oil thing, but that can't fool everyone. So I decided to start getting a budget exhaust system in place. Here's what I did so far:

Both the flower and veg closets share a wall. For some reason, they also share an air vent that is connected to the HVAC of this house. Who puts a/c in their closet. Whatever. I decided to tap in and add one of those assist fans for those hard to cool rooms, but use it for my purposes.

This is the fan

This is where it needs to go
GEDC1452.JPG

Now it has a place to go
GEDC1453.JPG

It only fits in one direction so I need an adapter to reverse it to draw air into the basement. I'll also get a cap for the other end to seal it off
GEDC1455.JPG

Lights are out or I'd include pics of the closet vents. Maybe tomorrow.

I tested it as pictured and I get airflow through the closet vent. With the closet door shut, I get a slight breeze from under the door. This means that when I reverse it, I'll have a slight vacuum, keeping the scent contained to the closet. I'll figure out some activated charcoal solution for the basement end of it. Are those charcoal range hood filters any good?

Happy Friday all. I made progress with the ventilation today. The supply duct is sealed off and the fan is reversed so it's sucking air out of the closet now.

A piece of kleenex gets sucked right up to the closet vent now

I need to figure out how I'm going to get the smell out of the air flow. I was thinking of getting some activated charcoal from the pet store in the fish supply section and have the air blow on it. It's worth a shot. I picked up a charcoal filter that fits into a range hood, but it's too restrictive for the power of this fan so it's going back. Anyone ever tried Ona gel?

I picked up the worm shit today. I gave it to Chillin 1 & 2. I gave Chillin 2 plain water to wash it down, and I gave Chillin 1 her regular meal of MG to wash it down. Handy Dandy 1 looks just fine so I just gave her a regular meal. I don't want to change too much, have a problem and not know what I did. I think that was the right thing to do. I'll find out, because I tried two different things with the worm shit. I'll watch and see how they react.

Jimmie, Onagel is what was recommended to me when I first started the journal. But if you look at Amazon for instance (more expensive, but easier to find stuff to get an idea of) and search for activated charcoal filter, you will see down the page a big round filter from Ipower with a 4-6" hole on the end, That is what I'm using with a fan on top of my tent sucking the air out thru that filter. I hope that helps you!

I know that pH problems can lock nutes out and I absolutely don't want that. I want to know where my pH stands, but I'm having a hard time getting a definite answer. I think I'm on the right track here, but just can't be sure. Here goes anyway.

My tap water (sitting out to evap whatever it can) comes in at about 7.6, maybe a little higher
GEDC1463.JPG

The water with added nutes comes in around 7.19875, give or take, hehehe
GEDC1462.JPG

The runoff comes in at about 6. This is from Handy Dandy 1. The girls that had the worm dinner couldn't be tested because the runoff was too dark.
GEDC1461.JPG

That's all I have. I don't know what to do with this information but ideas are welcome.

I have no idea what plants should be, but humans are considered PH balanced at 6.5. The lower the number, the more acidic it is and the higher the number, the more alkalotic it is (You'd think it was the other way around, but it's not). Now you just need to find out what's PH balanced for your plants. Sorry I couldn't help more.

Acidic is high and alkaline is low... Diabetes teaches you that... think about it Smoke... you know what DKA is and it is caused by high sugar... same difference....:circle-of-love:

Thanks D., you got me thinking and my training was so long ago I never thought of that. Your right! Sorry for the misinformation Jimmie!

If ya growin in soil, well water, stream water, pond water.... Works well.. r/o water... NOPE. Ya need to maintain between 6-7 on ph. r/o is usually 5 and change. Soil contains ph buffers to keep ph from RAISING not dropping. Keep her a lil above 6 and sail away my friend. :thumb:

Thanks Smoke - it definitely helps. Is this the one you have? It says it's 6 inch, but is it the opening that's 6"? If it is, that is perfect because my inline fan that I just installed is 6". What type of fan are you using? The one that I installed does fine, but it's going to a 2nd floor closet, and the ducts twist and turn on the way up, so I can't afford any big restrictions. I need to be sure that this lets air flow freely before spending that much.
filter30.jpg

Also, can you replace the charcoal? That is a little pricey if it's a one time deal.:thanks:

Smoke's idea is the better way to go if possible but if ya just can't do it right now... the gel stuff works well enough for me but I don't know how stealth you have to be... I live in the middle of nowhere and ya don't just drop by if ya know what I mean...:;):....:circle-of-love:

I have to be stealth enough that I can let people in and be confident that there's no hint of anything going on.
