JimmieJ's First Grow - Closet - Soil - Bag Seed - CFLs

One day left then 2 days off to tend to my garden Jimmy and by tend I mean sit staring at my girls and possibly singing them a song or three lol!

Today I transplanted Chillin 1 clone. I'm going to come up with some better names. Here's why they have the odd names they do:

I saved seeds from two separate bags. The way I remembered which smoke went with which seeds was: one of the bags of smoke had me chillin. The other (Handy Dandy) was just some damn good smoke, and I named it that because it rhymes with the name of the person who shared the seeds with me.

Today, Clone 1 from Chillin 1 got her new home. (C1 C1. Cici. That'll work)

Cici is now in a 1.75 gal container in some good soil

A couple branches were covered by soil. When I put the newly rooted clone into the previous container, I didn't take care to keep the fan leaves above soil level. Those fan leaves died off and branches formed. She knew what to do though, because once I brushed the surface soil away, she had developed fine as far as I can see. Shouldn't have any rot now.

This is what her mother is cooking right now. This is what Cici is capable of. She's in better soil than her mother is, so I have to believe that this is what I'll get out of Cici, only more. Cloning is a great thing!

I had my new soil ready to go, stored in a dim, cool place. When I went to grab a container to put Cici in, I found that they all had a layer of mold growing on top. A quick search suggested that it's only "saprophytic fungus," which is normally caused from poorly drained or overwatered soil. In my case, the soil was allowed to sit and brew in a dark place with no airflow so I think it's a small to non-issue. Left pic: white stuff mixed back into the soil so it can't be seen. Right pic: untouched.

Cici's planter (not pictured) got its surface soil removed before I transplanted her so the fungus should just be gone.

After a few hours under light and the fan, the top of Cici's soil is nice and dry, so I don't think this will ever be seen again. I'm guessing that summer, and all of the bugs & high temperatures that it brings will be my biggest concern.

DIY Groovy-Retro-60's Mini Bubble Cloner update.

The fan leaf is surviving. I managed to find another one to stick in, but it's got two sticking out of a single branch. I think I might have a chance of new growth if this makes it. I don't really care though because I don't have anywhere to put one more plant unless I lose a couple. I just want to see if this produces roots. It's keeping them alive without a dome though!

Yes, that's exactly what it was. Why is that a good sign? Because it's not black mold, or because this shit is so fertile, that if cannabis isn't gobbling it up, that something else will?

I haven't seen it in person, but some of the best cooked soil has white wispy microorganisms growing on he top when away from the light. I believe that is probaby a sign of a healthy, active community of beneficial soil organisms. I posed a photo request on the "Build a Better Soil" thread. .. I've seen the photos around, but I couldn't find one when I searched.

Let's see who is proud of their soil community :)

I know I have a couple photos somewhere but who knows where they are? Yes, this is a good sign. It's a fungus that typically lives below the surface, but if you have the soil in darkness it'll rise up and decompose things on the surface. It's a positive sign of a healthy biosphere. Congratulations, you are the proud caretaker of your own plot of living organic soil.
