JimmieJ's First Grow - Closet - Soil - Bag Seed - CFLs

I guess I forgot to tell ya there will be a slight film of moldy looking stuff on your soil after it has cooked for a while huh.. ... well as you have been told that is a good sign and just stir it all up and it is ready to do it's thing... Great job...:goodjob: And thank you .. yes I am feeling much better and happy to be back... if I can help ya in any way just let me know and it looks like you have done an amazing job with the soil...:bravo:...:circle-of-love:

You mean you made me panic for nothing? :thumb:

Does anyone mix their used coffee grounds in with their soil? As much coffee as I drink, I'd like to use the grounds if they'd be beneficial. I did some reading today, and theories abound, but I haven't seen anyone say that they personally use them, and most of what I was reading was for... umm... other types of gardens. It seems like the grounds would be a great organic amendment with decent amounts of slow release nitrogen, but I'd like some first hand advice.:thanks:

It is a beautiful day here Jimmie but my contest seeds got nabbed by customs I think.... I got the envelope and all the containers but no beans...:thedoubletake: I am so bummed... I do hope you have had a blessed and green day though...:circle-of-love:

That is a bummer - no note? By containers do you mean branded containers saying they contained named strains of seeds?

It has never happened to me, but I would expect a note from customs in your container if they removed the seeds.

I did not use coffee grounds in my worm bin or soil because I read this article by Gardens Alive.

Clone update. All three of my lovely lady clones are now in my new living soil. It hasn't been long enough to judge how they're going to react, but they're not complaining.

Chillin 1 clone is in the big container. Her leaves are still pretty long and skinny. I'm wondering if the new soil will slowly start producing the nice leaves that her mother has, or if I need to do something to jump start her, then let the soil take over.

Groovy 60's cloner update:

They're doing fine. No roots yet, but they're not declining at all. I'm guessing that if this clone roots, growth will emerge from the crotch and a new plant will be born. Just a guess, we'll see!

Temps are low in the cloner. It's on an end table where the temps go between 66-72F and they're only getting daylight.

This plant has been the bane of my first grow. It's been too stubborn to die, and too stubborn to thrive. I think that the fish fertilizer was just the thing to get it to shape up. There's no denying now that it's drinking the shit up and going for the green. It's interesting though, because my other plants with the exact same treatment came out completely differently. A seed that I planted at the same time as this, using the same bag of potting soil, already has buds, and this hasn't even shown sex yet. It tells me that each plant is an individual, even from the same batch of seeds, and I need to tune in to what each individual needs. I don't know for sure, but it sounds good to me.

The new leaves finally look very healthy & deep green and they're not crispy at all. This plant has had crispy leaves its entire life

That is a major bummer Dennise. I wonder how many customs agents have grow tents... :thedoubletake::lot-o-toke:

Oh boy... glad I asked! I'll keep them out of the plants until someday when I can conduct a controlled experiment. Not in my near future! Thanks Rad!

I know right... but some other members have told me that some bean companies do their stealth shipping that way... they ship all the containers and then in a seperate package send the beans...:yikes: I'm still hoping that maybe they are right and they will show up in the next day or so... and I agree with you about the letter... I had a batch seized by OSSC and I got the letter and it's scary as all get out...:yikes: from customs and the Agricultural something or other.... but no letter and the envelope didn't look like it had ever been opened... I don't get it....
I also agree with the acidity problem if you use the coffee grinds... coffee is very acidic and would be a hard thing to regulate in your soil IMO.....:circle-of-love:

I believe Smokey knows a bit about the stealth piece, perhaps PM him for his experience.

My lawn will surely enjoy my coffee grounds and my girls will just have to settle for their beautiful new soil. :thumb::high-five:

You are going to see such a difference in your girls...:yahoo: The crispie leaves are more than likely due to your pH being all mucked up and the new growth you are going to get is going to be lush and green...:high-five: I give it a week and you are going to see an amazing difference...:goodjob:....:circle-of-love:

I think I always just assume that everyone knows what I'm thinking... the girl who is finally greening up is still in the potting soil - she came from seed. She's just now responding to the fish emulsion. I've been slowly cranking it up and she is finally responding. The girls that are in my new soil are all clones. :-)
