Afternoon/evening all! Here's the Friday transplant update seeing as how I bought two bags of FoxFarms Happy Frog.
First up was the two Summer Grow plants, a
Trainwreck from
@Weed Seeds Express and a Purple Urkle freebie from I don't remember where:
First I needed to mix up the substrate, so I went with 3 parts FFHF and 1 part rinsed perlite. I added a bunch of
@DYNOMYCO because why not!
Mix mix stir stir, all done:
Here are the roots on the Purple Urkle:
Because they're so packed in, I sliced them down the sides with a razor blade, sprayed them with water, and sprinkled more
@DYNOMYCO on them. You can just make out the downward slices if you zoom in:
Here are the roots on the Trainwreck. These didn't need slicing though I did break up the bottom a bit:
All done. I took off the first two nodes on the TW and the first node on the PU:
They got 4.5g equivalent nutes (that's my full strength veg mix, but I think they can handle it), mostly where the original rootball is because soil's capillary action is even great than ProMix HP.
Next up was the lime clone that took a year outside in the shite soil to show any growth. Here it is in the faded solo cup:
The roots of citrus trees are very woody:
I mixed in 2 tablespoons of GeoFlora to keep it happy and watered it from the hose down the middle. All done:
And that's it for me playing in the dirt! I hope your Friday is going well and that the weekend is both relaxing and productive.
Quotes:
Wow you really can't stand the stuff eh? Sorry, but it's so funny. What did it do to you to make you despise it so? Lmao!!1
It's definitely not that I can't stand the stuff! It's a perfectly good source of potassium and sulfur if that's what you need in your nutes. What makes it funny is that they would send 2.5 gallon bottles as part of every OTM prize package, and you only tend to use it 5ml at a time and only in flower. You can see why a little would go a long way, not to mention saving on shipping!
What's your plan for nutrients? Any other amendments for the soil? Happy Frog is relatively "light" in nutrients correct? Or is that one a "seed to harvest" type of soil. FF have quite a few soil mixes. I'm not familiar with their recipes.
Good question Baked! I plan on making no changes to my nutes, which will continue to be a blend of MC, monosilicic acid, 0-0-0 cal-mag, ammonium nitrate, and magnesium nitrate. Whatever nutes may be cooked into FFHF at the factory will be ignored, which would have been the same if it was FFOF.
They really do have a ton. Makes one wonder why the only two you ever see used are Happy Frog and Ocean Forest.
Most popular blends in their lines? Availability of ingredients? I don't know.
Only so much shelf space I reckon. Soil bags take up a lot of room on the warehouse floor. That and those two being most popular. Still, not available at the big box stores here or even the local big nurseries. I had to go to LA Garden Supply to get it. It's a huge hydro warehouse near me, and the only place I could find the ProMix HP as well.
Nah Verbalist, no need to panic! Everything else I've been doing will stay the same.
@MrSauga's hope is that I will eliminate the pH shift that comes with ProMix HP. I'm actually slurry-testing the Jack Herer right now to see what blend of nutes to mix next. That and the Candida will be the last two in ProMix, for a while at least. If this summer's grow turns out well with no issues, I will stick with the FFHF going forward.
