InTheShed Grows Inside & Out: Jump In Any Time

Sure! I'll document as much as I can as I snip, but you seem to be getting the hang of it pretty well from looking at your latest flower pics. :thumb:
Thanks, but I'm only part way there, still trying to learn the entirety of the process which you seem to have mastered.

By "cut it off" I mean it both, or two, ways.
- when to literally cut a branch off and where? which ones?
- when to "cut off" the process altogether?
To clarify!
Gotcha!
Thanks, but I'm only part way there, still trying to learn the entirety of the process which you seem to have mastered.
The only thing I've mastered is my knowledge of what I don't want to trim at harvest! As I've said elsewhere:
Just to be clear, I don't for a minute claim that the way I lollipop before flip or thin post stretch will increase harvest weight. I don't need to harvest more off my plants.

I do it to drive bud growth to the tops and eliminate as much larf as possible. Not because there is anything wrong with larf...I just hate hate hate trimming it!

Well, yeah, but doesn't every time you remove growth like this (assuming you've done it in the right time frame) signal the plant to no longer expend energy in that direction and instead direct it to the remaining growth, or buds, as it were? If so, then I get that you are trying to eliminate what you don't want to trim, but isn't the automatic adjunct effect that the remaining energy the plant has will be directed to the viable sites and increase growth there, thus increasing size, thus increasing yield?

I guess I'm saying, aren't you affecting both deflafing AND increasing yield at the time by doing this? That was my understanding.

There is probably some perfect balance point up to which you are increasing yield by decreasing larf, but if you take off one more lower bit it will decrease your yield because it would have gotten bigger than the corresponding top can make up for with the increase in growth hormones it gets. No one knows what that point is for sure.

So I don't worry about that because I don't need more production off my plants, or even worry about the unmeasurable maximization of my yields. I do need less time with a trimming scissors in my hands working on itty bitty flowers. :cheesygrinsmiley:

Thanks. Gotcha. Understood.

Wednesday update on the pollen collection I did last night, and this is not a tutorial, merely a documentation of what happened!

I've been collecting male sacs off the STS Sour G in the drying box for a couple of weeks, but for the past few days I haven't been using any of the pollen to pollinate the flowering plants, as those seem to be plenty seeded. So I thought I would try saving some pollen to see if I can improve my technique.

Here is the gear I got ready:

And here is the collection of sacs and pollen:

I dumped the contents of the box into the strainer above the tin foil and used a paintbrush to make sure the pollen was out:

But I ended up with a lot of plant bits:

So I grabbed an 80 mesh strainer from my pottery days and ran it through that:

Here is what I ended up with:

@Carcass recommended a couple of silicon beads from one of those gel packs rather than using rice, so I added those to a tube and poured in the pollen:

Not a lot, and It doesn't have that pure yellow pollen look because there's some detritus from fine plant material, but hopefully it's clean enough to work. This is just a test to see if it will keep in the fridge for a few months and still be effective. I don't have any use for it since I'm not interested in making crosses, but I will test it on something with flowers at the end of the summer to see if I get seeds.

Speaking of seeds, this is one of the tops on the STS Sour G (flip day 35):

Looks pretty well self-seeded to me, no?

Finally for the day, the last surviving lime tree cutting (the first didn't survive the heat wave we got a few weeks back):

Looks good to me! I'll be moving it to a 1 gallon pot pretty soon so I don't have to water it as often.

I hope all is well with you and yours! :ciao:

You're finally writing that children's book you've always talked about!

Have you seen the pics here of one of the flowering/pollinated plants?
I just wrote half of it in my head.

I did see them. Nice job.
Makes me hopeful for my own upcoming seed projects.

Did you see burning of any kind?
From what I saw, you didn't.

Cool update! Pollen collecting lesson for free, yay! Thanks.

So....your "pottery days?" Were you once a potter or something or a hobbyist? You just know someone, perhaps me, is going to ask you to show us some of your work, right?

She's seeded alright. Nice. Seed pics look cool in their own, terrifying way. Lol!!!

Rock on Shed!

Cool update!
Thanks Jon!
Pollen collecting lesson for free, yay! Thanks.
No! Not a lesson! See this:
this is not a tutorial

I was a potter hobbyist. Spent hours most nights throwing, trimming, glazing, and firing. Then I started growing cannabis and ran out of room! I'll dig around and see if I have any pics if you do end up asking. :)

On the plus side I can guarantee that none of these will sprout in random places on my property! Though I will make sure they grow before I toss/gift the mother plant.

Thanks Jon!

Hee hee! Well....

Definitions: If you explain something with minimal Shed blathering and use just pictures, it's called a lesson instead of a tutorial. Lol!

That WAS me asking!!

LOL! I hope every dumbass Republican yard in this gated community from hell has a jon plant growing in it before I go.

Oh okay, now I gotta go edit that sentence. ;)

LOL oh, I got nothing here at work. If I can find something at home I'll put it in the off-topic thread and link it back.

Always leave 'em laughing!

I figured since I describe myself using the words "this is more of me blathering" all the time you wouldn't mind the ribbing....lol

You can rib me all you want as long as you don't follow my "pollen instructions"!
Is there a reason you keep downplaying your own pollen....what....demo? Whatever word you want to use, I honestly thought it was very comprehensive for a "demo" containing very little verbiage, regardless of how you intended to present it. I feel like it gave me (and anyone with a grow or two under their belt) enough information to duplicate the process without too much trepidation. I understand it's much more complicated and pretty much have seen enough between your work, Stunger's, and others to have a general idea of how to collect pollen at this point. But this little demo photo montagey thing you presented tonight kind of explained it to us common men very simply and succinctly, at least that part of the process, and for real that has straight up educational value.

Therefore:

:thanks:

Because I don't want anyone to use that as a guide because I have no idea if it works. I don't do tutorials/lessons/how-to's unless they're time-tested and proven to work. There are folks who have done this a lot more often and successfully than I have who may or may not tell me what to do differently. Last time I mixed the pollen with flour and that was a mistake. See?

Don't do as I do if I tell you not to! :)

A very fair answer to what I hope you thought was a fair question!
