InTheShed Grows Inside & Out: Jump In Any Time

starting off with the harvest of the Red Dragon
Congrats on the Red Dragon harvest. A beautiful plant indeed. :bravo:

I found a bunch of c-words so I probably took it down just in time!
 Glad you got it in time. I have a sad sad story to tell in my next journal update.
the Jack Herer replacement was needing water pretty often, so I took a peek at the roots:
This Jack is looking so much better than the first one. Glad you've gotten your soil issues resolved. :high-five:
Tuesday update, the one with the S-1 Candida seeds!
That is promising news.
I'm working on the theory that post-transplant shade lessens the transplant shock,
Thanks for the tip! I also like to give my transplants a dose of either B1 vitamin or SuperThrive to lesson transplant shock.

Thanks BL!

Oof, that was an awful story. :(

This is about the age when I botched the last one, but I have much higher hopes in ProMix!
That is promising news.
Indeed, though no sprouts yet as of this morning. You'll know when I know. :)

I have enough bottles for now, so I'm sticking with shade. ☔
Lovely harvest indeed! Congrats Shed!
Thank you double H!

Little Thursday update, where I transplant the Jack Herer from @Weed Seeds Express on day 20!

It was looking kinda droopy and it needed water almost every 24 hours, so it was time to move to a 1 gallon pot. Here is the droop:

Here are the roots:

And here it is in the 1 gallon pot, with ProMix HP and @DYNOMYCO added for fun:

I buried it to the cotyledons and took off the first node. Then I put it in the shade to try to lesson some of the transplant stress. It seems to be working for the others I've done, so I'll stick with it.

As I mentioned yesterday, last night was time to take the Red Dragon off the lines in the drying box. I put on the Olympics and sat on the floor of the living room and cut the buds off the branches into a single turkey roasting bag, along with three hygrometers in different places to get an idea where they would settle. They were all at 59% RH.

So I left the bag on the patio all night because that's when it gets really humid in my neighborhood (in the 90% range). When I brought them in this morning the meters read 70% (they were right up against the inside of the plastic bag).

Turkey roasting bags are not, as I have mentioned, air tight!

I'm sure all the buds didn't get that damp, but it did serve the purpose of raising the RH so I can burp it down over the next two weeks. I split them into three bags for burping:

They smell nice!

:ciao:

Congrats on the harvest, Shed. The bud looks reddish in the bags. Is it?

Could you please explain to me why you wanted the bags to have high humidity? I thought we were aiming for a mid-way number like between 50 and 60?

Also, what are you doing with the turkey bags now? Do they go into a dark, dry area?

:ciao: Hi Shed! I have a question for you. I saw the horrible damage to @BeezLuiz plant by caterpillars and the talk about starting to spray. So, in July when I had a few larder moths in the tent I put bay leaves in the cabinet and on top of the pots and they went away. At that time I also put 3 leaves into a half gallon of water and it’s been steeping for over a month (it smells delicious). I’m thinking of spraying one of the outdoor plants with it but Im not sure what the best “strategy” is for trying something like that. Any suggestions? :thanks:

That is good to know. I have a number of jars that the r/h is to low and I’ve been contemplating different methods to get it back up some.

Hey it was almost like a date night. That’s exactly what I did last night. It made for good entertainment while doing that tedious job.

Thanks HG! The plant took on a reddish hue so the buds are showing that.

I would like the burping process to start in the high 60s (definitely not in the 50s ever) so I can burp down to 62% RH. That's the end of the burping process, and then they get sealed for the cure at 62%.
Also, what are you doing with the turkey bags now? Do they go into a dark, dry area?
Nowhere is really dry as lowest our RH goes is 50% (unless the Santa Ana winds are blowing through...then we're in the teens). I put them in a closet and take them out to burp them for about 10 minutes twice a day for a week, then once a day for another week. Then into jars.

I would just spray the plants like I would any other spray...first thing in the morning before the sun is on them, or late afternoon. I don't know if it works as well in the open air but I guess it's worth a try. First time you notice it doesn't work though...move on to the deadly stuff.
That is good to know. I have a number of jars that the r/h is to low and I’ve been contemplating different methods to get it back up some.
Doesn't work all that well in jars because the glass isn't permeable, so only the top is open to the damp. I usually just drop in a lemon wedge to get the RH up in a jar and seal it up for a few hours.

Date night with a big box of hanging buds...perfect! :high-five:

Congrats on the RD harvest, Shed- those reddish nugs look sweet...and that little JH is looking like a little JH should look!

They smell nice!
I bet! Also, I'm finding different brand turkey bags have different, what's the word for it, poursity? That's it I think. One of mine lets moisture right through and another much slower. Just to throw us a curve I think. That's where a good bucket come in for them regardless. But you know.

Single-pic Friday update...the one where we finally see some movement from the Candida S1 dented seed test:

That's one of the two with tails (right) and the one that hadn't split, for those keeping score at home.

They went into peat on Monday evening, so this would be four and a half days. Not quick, but looking like they're jumping another hurdle along the way to proof of viability.

I hope everyone had a smooth week and that the weekend is looking safe and fun! I hope the Tin Can Kush hasn't rotted in the dark. :nervous-guy:It comes down tomorrow.

Thanks Carcass! I'm looking for smooth sailing from here on in. :surf:

I bought the name brand version, but I have been using the same ones over and over so maybe they break down over time. Either way, since I know they're porous I can use it to my advantage!

Yep, some are more porous new. I use mine like you.

I can add more perlite and pull the cuttings up...I'm not sure where they will be in relation to the water table.
This is why a hole is handy - it’s very easy to tell the height of the water level. ;)

Wouldn't a clear cup (in a solid cup) serve the same purpose without having to have a spill tray? These all sit on a wooden desk.
But you said all of your clear cups had holes. And the clones are in these cups with perlite already.
:hippy:

(catching up..)

Careful there, @FelipeBlu . Don't rub it in. He's a bit sensitive on the topic for some reason..
Yes, I’ve known Shed for a while now. :laughtwo:

I guess I’m just an optimist and keep hoping he’ll eventually see the light..

:hippy:

ness of the perlite might save his back (and another hernia)

So, we can add health benefits as yet another reason to grow with hempy.

:p
