I also just realise that I was also supposed to update about my fan unit...
So I ordered a fan online and realised that it was supposed to be one wired into the mains line in a bathroom... Not ideal as obviously I need it to run via a UK plug. But where there is a will there is a way and I was desperately needing a fan as the object of my grow is stealth.
So as you can see a UK plug just doesn't quite work. The way that this fan functions, as I imagine most fans of this type to, is having 2 live wires. One that is constant for the internal timer and one that is switched for when a light gets turned on in a bathroom that then makes the motor run. Both live inputs need to have a current for the fan to actually work.
With the entire fan and casing being made from plastic there was no need for an earth wire, also.
Basically this fan was not designed for being in grow rooms. Well, tough. You're getting used, Mr Fan.
This is my shady solution... A jumper wire between the live and the switched live. Now the fan works perfectly. And it claims to be just over 20dB when on which it seems to be, as its lovely and quiet (for a powerful fan). Does the job perfectly and it hasn't blown up yet so I'm taking that as a win!
Works perfectly! I don't think it would be signed off in a PAT test but I'm happy!
