In The Lab

I have a question about harvesting with my brix. I am at least a week away, maybe a little longer. Both Cat drenches have been done. I am going away on Wed for almost a week so I plan to do a premature water on Wed, but when do I stop watering, or do I stop? Some insight would be most appreciated.

I don't do any sort of a flush. Keep 'em as healthy and happy as possible right 'till the end. On the other hand, bud washing is critical, IMO.

Yep. Final Growth Energy drench and Brix spray for me. 2 days prior to harvest. Flushing is a hydro thing. Our plants are better if we keep feeding.

Of course wash.

Yes, washing will be a mandatory step. I am curious how many people actually wash. I would guess that it's not the norm practice around here, but I could be wrong.

Doc, awhile ago I read a post of yours about sugar leaves being your favorite part. How do you include that harvest wise? Do you snip off all none sugar and leave all with tric on the flower to dry, or do you cut off SL and cure them differently?

This has been a very educational endeavor.

Most, if not all the HB gang washes buds. I know others do too, even if they aren't in high brix soil. It's a good practice for everyone. Just pretend you're growing spinach in your basement. No need to wash it....just put it in the salad, right?

Sugar leaf: I leave them on the buds. They get washed and dried ON THE BUD and I final manicure after buds have dried. The sugar leaf is what I trim off....which goes right into a large jar and comprises perhaps 90% of what I personally smoke, and what I share with others.

Ok so I had to transplant the 2 older ones, as I had to start training them. So heres my little step by step on transplanting.

First I get out the kiddie pool to avoid most of the mess. I get my 10 gallon smart pot and start filling up the bottom with soil.

Then I get my plant inside its 1 gallon pot, and I place it in the center.

Then I fill up around it with soil to the top.

Next I pull out the 1 gallon pot so that it leaves a perfect hole for the plant to drop right in.

Sprinkle in a bit of Roots

I apologize for not having a photo of this last step, but I only had 1 hand free and I didn't want to risk snapping the plant to grab a photo. But Pretty much I just put my palm down around the plant so that the plant stem is between 2 fingers, then I just turn the whole thing upside down and pull the plastic pot off. Leaving me a nice root covered cylinder of soil. Next I score the roots with a razor blade going from top to bottom on 4 sides of the root covered soil, and then I just drop it into the perfect sized hole I made earlier. And add in more soil if needed.

The end result is this.
Tangie Ghost Train veg day 21 Transplanted into 10 gallon smart pots.

Hey Doc, I read this somewhere i'm pretty sure. I mixed up a batch of brix spray last week but I barely had to use any from the plants being so small. So I put the rest of the bottle in the fridge, Is it still good or should I dump it and mix a new batch? I'm almost positive I read that you can keep either the brix or the destress in the fridge I just don't remember where I read it.

My experience is that Brix will grow a chalky green puck of....something....in a couple days. I recommend using it immediately.

DeStress can be kept refrigerated for up to a week.

I was surprised not to find anything. I thought I would give it a shot though since the extra was going to waste anyways.

And now for something entirely different...

Would the cat drench be used on tomatoes or broccoli?

Yep. Cat Drench to get blossoms to set, along with Brix spray for the tomatos.

Broccoli should be grown more like a green leafy. It will have a strong flavor with the sulfates in Cat Drench. But Growth Energy will make it sweeter. Personal preference, but mostly I'd stay away from Cat Drench on Broccoli. Same with all green leafies and root vegetables EXCEPT CARROTS.

Carrots like to be grown like a fruiting plant. Weird.

I should have brought this up a while ago...

Some details:

When I bought my promix hp I could only find the 2.8cu.ft bag rather than the larger 3.8cu.ft bale. After cooking the soil with less than the entire bag of amendment and started my first high brix grow, I later added the rest of the first run amendment to the soil and let cook in the corner of my room. After the first high brix grow was completed I added the root mass to corner of my container and let that cook before starting my current grow.

I know most would put the previously used soil in another container due to keep from mixing unused soil with used soil.

With the above explanation out of the way. 1. I have first run soil that potentially has a greater mineral density than i might if I had bought a 3.8cu.ft bale of promixHP. 2. I recently removed as much of the old root mass as I could and placed it in a separate container. 3. Remixed the container after adding three liters of water. 4. With a window that faces the east, my room gets fairly hot in the morning until two or three in the evening. 5. From here on out I intend using separate bins for the used and unused soil.

My question... Are there any suggestions on how I might prep the soil for a later second run?

So, basically you have a full bag of amendment in a 2.2 cu ft bag of Promix. Correct? Cut in a bit of fresh promix. No problem.

Also, it might be fine the way it is, I just wouldn't recharge the first time you use it.

Hey mister Doc Oc do you mind messaging me with info in the purchase of your infamous kit. I must try it, thanks.

Hey Paech, would like to give you a very warm welcome to the "Mag". You've found a special place here on the web. These growers around here are very committed to growing excellent produce and along with helping newer growers they are all fantastic people too!
Once again welcome to the Mag and have fun with Doc's gear...it's the shit brotha!....Duggs.:Namaste:
