In The Lab

It'll prob help, but still is a tad backwards. Roots seem to do well at or just below 70f, but the ambient temps could use a boost. I don't want to sound contradictory, but growing indoors is already kind of a waste of electricity (well, an inefficient use of it anyway).

Personally, I'd put an incandescent bulb in there and take the mat out...but that's just me. I mean, it's probably not going to stay that way for very long anyway...is it?

My plan for the new veg cabinet was to install a day/night temp controller. Hit it with some heat during lights on so the exhaust fan cycles often refreshing the stale air. But, I'm out of money. Cannot afford the $65 right now.

A more expensive route would be...
I have two spare bedrooms that are unused. Using proper climate controllers in each, I could have a veg room and a flower room. But honestly, that's biting off more than I can chew. I need to learn how to grow a single plant first. I planned as well as I could for this first grow, but I'm still making mistakes. I have outdoor plants that are so happy right now their leaves stand almost straight up. Like a sunflower, they follow the sun. So easy! Indoor growing is a whole different animal. My indoor plant has never looked as happy as the outdoor plants.

It's all about money. I'm doing the best I can and still be able to pay the bills. The clones will just have to deal with it for a few more weeks. If I lose them, then... oh well. I have more seeds. The veg cabinet was unplanned. I've been scrambling to get it running so I could have a clone ready for flower when my current girl is done. But, this was not my original plan. I had planned to just start from seed again.

I'll get it worked out soon. I lost a lot of time from work due to the rain. Need to recover from that first.

Point taken though. I will try to figure out how to increase air temperature and leave roots alone. :thanks:

This clone was transplanted on 5-22
26 days later, they just started to wilt slightly.

Wait - what ???
How can you get 26 days later than 5-22 on 6-2. My maths come up with 10 days. :cheesygrinsmiley:

Hang tough man. Rarely are the best grows planned and executed to perfection from the start. I can't speak for others, but for me, grow-space improvement is an ever-evolving state of being. I've worked on mine for years and still consider certain changes/tweaks to make it better...as I can afford it.

Ultimately, the reality for me is that growing only for myself doesn't come with the desire/requirement to maximize yields. I'm fortunate to have a little more indoor growing space than I need, and high-end grow equipment is hard to justify financially, but I make 2-3 harvests a year and each one I reward my hobby with something for the grow.

oops... my bad. They were transplanted on 5-7. Guess I had a brain fart when I typed that. Went back to my journal and verified the date. The point of posting about the 26 days was just to add to the discussion of lead time between watering in veg. Compacted soil was suggested as a variable. I believe my environment is also a variable. Supplemental CO2 may accelerate watering cycles also.

I think it's an interesting topic. I didn't mean to derail it with my temp issues. When I first started my kit grow, I was concerned about watering cycles. I know now I can't always compare what I'm doing to Doc or anyone else for that matter because our general conditions may be different.

:blunt: Yes, free of charge too! Just have to promise to bring it back with some fuel...:;):
Fuel system has been changed to only run on hemp....:surf:
Makes for interesting trips eh...imagine!

I promise to have it back to you yesterday.

So my TGTs got their first bath today. Heres a pic.

I took 8 liters of water, added 7.5 ml of Transplant + 2.5 ml of Tea and just kept filling up the plastic square container and letting each pot sit until all the plants were nice and soaked. What little water I had left over in the container after, I just poured a little into each pot. They are all sitting up on metal cookie racks so the excess water is draining out nicely.

I'm new with the kit. Haven't finished my first grow yet. But, I swear I read in the thread somewhere that they shouldn't be fed, only watered when they are that young.

If I'm wrong, and I hope I am, that would explain why my plant became Nitrogen deficient in very early veg. I was puzzled how it could have happened.

Yes, Mason, you are correct...plants this young do not require , or need any Drenches or Foliars...a very small amount of GE or Transplant can be given , but they really don't need it, water is preferred. Cheers.

I was planning to give it just water, but I also read that adding a bit of transplant with every watering was the way to go. I just added the tea because I figure if adding transplant to the water makes it a drench then it should also have some tea? From what I remember reading it was the foliar sprays that should not be used on seedlings?

I waited to give her her first feeding (Growth Energy Day 24 from seed) I believe. She was just barely starting to show signs of deficiency. Doc noticed. I didn't. If I could go back, I'm thinking she should have been fed at week 2 from seed with transplant. Transplant is NH3 nitrogen if I remember correctly.

That's cool C420, for the future remember , when they are very small like this they shouldn't get the "Kit " stuff just yet. When we say we add 1/4 Transplant between Drenches , that is with Adult plants, not brand new seedlings. Tea should only be given with a "Drench of iether GE , Transplant, or Cat Drench. What you gave her is OK but no more OK ....just wait a while , a few weeks . By then ,her roots will be throughout the pot and she will be a lot bigger. Cheers .

I think it is all about the root system. Seedlings just don't have enough to take advantage of the feed? Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. Like I said. I'm new.... and bored lol It's been a slow day on the forums.

Very, very nice. You'll grow some really nice roots if you don't water again until it's dry as a bone, then soak it just like you did, but maybe a bit stronger.

Don't neglect to foliar feed!

Please keep us all posted here on this thread and we'll use your endeavor as a tutorial if don't mind? If you're cool with that I'd be stoked. It's been a while since we've done any start to finish step by step stuff. It's about time I'd say.

Also can you tell me a bit about WayAhead? Would it be something I should include in my order? If its not already packed up and shipped yet.

WayAhead is a micronutrient foliar spray. It's got Ca, Mg, Ni, S, Mn, and Cu. It's mainly used for salt loving hydro strains.

I highly recommend getting to know the kit before using some of the fancy stuff. It's only needed on rare occasions.
