Thank you for clearing that up Duggan. I misunderstood, thinking the kit came with enough supplies to get through the whole life of the soil, or three runs. Now I see you need to get extra amendment.

So, order the supplies for the first run, plus extra amendment to use for the second run, and a bag of third-run amendment? Is this correct? This increases the price we've been telling people all along, but that's ancient history now. It's still the most cost-effective way I've come across to grow produce this superior. I'll be working up a new cost analysis for future recommendations. Now that Doc has his site up and running this will be easier to calculate.

I have to admit, I haven't really looked the site over so far, other than a cursory glance when it began. If I'm going to advocate for the kit it would behoove me to get more familiar with the product line. :battingeyelashes:

Yes Sue...you got it now ! For the future ,..buy the kit liquids in quarts and the amendment by the pound. A typical 'bulk kit ' comes with 6 pounds of amendment (4 kits worth!) and the liquids in quarts. it's the best way ,..that way you always have whats needed. Cheers woman,..have a great weekend!:high-five:

Thank you Doc, but more questions arise. My confusion stems from the reality that there is no designated third-run amendment in the kit I recieved. All of the amendment I recieved was added to the first cook. Is this what should have happened, and if so, how much amendment should I be ordering to be able to have enough on hand to add for the third run?

I have an uneasy feeling I've been doing this wrong all along.

Also, how much amendment is added for the third run? Is this a full batch of the amendment? I don't run the soil all at once, I garden perpetually, so I have individual pots that need amended. I'm trying to come up with some type of workable formula for amending per gallon of soil. Can you all help me with this?
The kit is for one run. Therefore, no 3rd run amendment is included.

You are welcome to order some, of course.

The kit has always been for one run. 6 plants. Never has it been for the life of the soil.....but enough for 1 run in one bale.

Bulk buying saves money for those that continue with the method....and yea, it is very cost effective, especially by the gallon.

I thought there was no amendment needed for the 2nd run, just worm castings and plant matter from thw first run, mix and cook another 30 days... We don't amend again until the 3rd run, is that right Doc?

I remember being confused when I recieved my bulk kit and asked for some 2nd run amendment also.

OK guys, please help me out! Here are the directions, quoting directly:

Recycling Soil

After the first crop is harvested, put the soil, including the roots, mixed with fresh EWC, perhaps 20 lbs worth along with another bag of amendment back into the barrel and cook it for another month, then use as always.

After the second crop is harvested, take that soil, and add the 3rd Run Amendment to this soil, along with some leaf scraps from recently harvested healthy plants and a light sprinkling of Roots! on the leaves. Let this cook for a month and then use as always.

After the 3rd crop has been harvested from the soil, add fresh, unused Promix along with leaves and a light dusting of roots and re-cook.

I personally do not use soil after the 4th run. Others do so with good success and I suggest seeking them out and seeing if their methods work in your garden. I get my best results with the 3rd run of soil.

So the way I read the above, and more importantly what I mean by it is:

After the first run, put all the root balls, 20lbs of fresh EWC and another bag of Amendment...mix it all together, wet it, and cook for a month.

So, to recycle soil, you'll need a bag of amendment and 20lbs of EWC. That's what I was trying to say in the directions. But you seemed to have a completely different understanding!!!

Where is this coming from? This is what I'm really struggling with, trying to make this as user friendly as possible! I read those directions quite simply and clearly and could not deduce that there is "no amendment needed for the second run."

It clearly says: ""put the soil, including the roots, mixed with fresh EWC, perhaps 20 lbs worth along with another bag of amendment back into the barrel and cook it for another month, then use as always.""

Futhermore it says nothing about adding leaves to the first run. That is done after the second run, according to the directions!

Please folks....how can I communicate this more clearly? I love answering questions, I really do! But what is it about the directions in this case that is so unclear?

Are there any questions about soil recycling that aren't addressed in the directions? This is what I personally do in my garden and is how the products are designed to work.

and Redloh.....please do not take this personally. I mean no offense AT ALL. I'm sincerely trying to figure out how to improve the product and take away guesswork and give folks a clear path to success.

To re-cap: yes, you need a bag of amendment in order to prepare second run soil. Do not add leaves to first run soil when cooking it. Do add 20lbs of EWC.

Are we good?

Anyone else?

Doc,

I wonder if some sort of time chart would help explain when to do things. Not sure, its just that someone left the lid to the box open and I am thinking outside it.

Aha! I think I may have found what one source of confusion is:

My not-yet-live website has yet to undergo final edit and the directions for recycling failed to mention the amendment. But, those are NOT supposed to be followed, as the content on the website is not yet official and must be scrubbed and edited.

My apologies! Please know that at all times, the most current directions are included in my signature, as seen in this post.

When I asked you about 2nd run amendment when I ordered my bulk kit you're response was:

There is no 2nd run amendment. There is, however, a 3rd run amendment.....but no 3rd run recharge. You're good to go.

I see what you were saying now. My apologies for my confusion.

No apology necessary! You're helping me get this dialed in.

I just noticed that my website isn't accurate. (it's not live either, but folks can sort of wander around if they want.) The recycling portion of the website will be updated ASAP.

Carry on!

So Doc, what happens if we order through the site right now?

The Paypal side of things is open kinda.....but it might be best to wait just a few more days. Also, I'm going to run a 420 special for December.

If you're desperate, the "old" way works fine, but very soon we'll do everything via the website.

Oh...those of you that have lab reports of High Brix Produce, please contact me if you're willing to post them (sans name and personal info of course) on the website. Obviously there will be some incentive/reward for those who do!

Doc,

I wonder if some sort of time chart would help explain when to do things. Not sure, its just that someone left the lid to the box open and I am thinking outside it.

Good idea. Add in a detailed price list of an average initial order meant to get the soil through three runs and we'll share a dance of joy. :laughtwo:

May I make a suggestion? I notice there's no sticky in this forum for the kit instructions. Posting the most recent one would be a good idea, IMHO.

I must admit Doc, your instructions explained everything very well, once we realized the confusion over the need to order amendment for the second run and that third-run amendment was a seperate product. I have to admit that today was the first time I realized it even existed.

Whatever created the confusion, take heart that we're all focused on getting it crystal clear as the web site gets moving. The product speaks for itself, and you're very close to having the instructions and demonstrations concise and clear. All good signs for future growth.

I've already got a detailed price list....and

A bulk kit plus 3rd run recharge will get you through 4 runs....

The most current instructions are "stickied" in my signature. Always have been. They'll be on the website of course.

So, your wishes and suggestions are already in place!

Thanks!
