In The Lab

Good afternoon. A quick question before I drench. I have a young clone cutting about to get the very first drench. When potted the pot was drenched with TransWater (1/4 Trans), so this will be the first official drench. What do you recommend I start with Doc, Trans or Energy?

Transplant will ensure the roots are good, but I often do GE if the clone seems vigorous and roots are hooked up properly.

Idk, but I sprayed a weak trans and water on my cuts once or twice then started destress. The cuts stood straight up in the air after the trans

coming out decent for 1st time in kit, also being mite infested too

Mites eh? 3 applications of Leaf Wash, 1 in veg and 2 early in bloom will control a massive infestation. Weaponizing the foliar sprays against them will control a mild infestation, but hopefully you can get to the point where it really doesn't matter that you have a few mites because they do no apparent damage.

I roll along like that until I do something to the soil, like add bloodmeal or something. Then they seem to reproduce a bit more.

I've been away so much, it made it hard to keep mites in check

. Bog's Sour Strawberry day 56

I've been very lucky... I was infested pretty damn bad last grow... in super soil... used the Leaf was every few days at 1/4 strength since it was a non HB grow and did that crazy DIY mite killer.... not a single mite to be seen so far! So happy, but always looking .

Hope you get those under control Buck! Regardless, your plants look damn good, and those buds are just freakin awesome!!..

Can someone please give me the proper rundown on recycling the second run soil? The kit doesn't come with third-run amendment, or at least mine never has, so I'm assuming I need to order extra amendment? Is this simply a specified measurement of the regular amendment, and if so how much is added? Regardless, I find myself with none on hand.

There is a special third run amendment....but no recharge. Also, cut back on foliars for the third run....spray every 2 weeks or even less depending.

Add the amendment, do not add leaves....cook per normal. A single bale's worth fits in a small box and ships for 18.00 including the amendment. A larger bag goes a long way.

Yep. I just add the amendment, no EWC.

Third run is my favorite run.

Thank you Doc, but more questions arise. My confusion stems from the reality that there is no designated third-run amendment in the kit I recieved. All of the amendment I recieved was added to the first cook. Is this what should have happened, and if so, how much amendment should I be ordering to be able to have enough on hand to add for the third run?

I have an uneasy feeling I've been doing this wrong all along.

Also, how much amendment is added for the third run? Is this a full batch of the amendment? I don't run the soil all at once, I garden perpetually, so I have individual pots that need amended. I'm trying to come up with some type of workable formula for amending per gallon of soil. Can you all help me with this?

Sue....when your kit arrives...it has enough amendment for one complete grow...or one bale of ProMix. When you cook your first batch of soil...all of that amendment goes into it.
For second run soil..or when you reuse it and recook it for second time use you need to amend it again with more .This you need to re..order...at the same time i would suggest ordering a batch of 3rd. run amendment...which is slightly different than 1st and 2nd run...got it!
So ....first and second run amendment are the exact same.....it's only the 3rd run stuff thats different....understand Sue?
So when you cook a complete batch of soil for the first time and only use ...say 1/2 of it....your good to use the second 1/2 of it the way it is...you don't need to re amend and re cook it ...it's already to go.
So....when you cook your second run...to make it 3rd run....don't add any ewc's, roots,or leaves to it....like Doc just said ...only add the 3rd. run amendment.
Hope this sounds clear!

Thank you Duggan. I'll get the soil into a bin until I can place the next order.

This'll be the first time I get to third run soil. My first batch got tossed after the virus got into it.

Any reason why the amendment for the third run isn't included in the kit? I'm two years in and I'm just getting this figured out. I'd like to see others avoid the confusion.
