In The Lab

What does complete dark cycle mean, is it just 11/13 versus 12/12?

Sorry I was not very clear. I was referring to a possible issue I had
with only a blanket over a far window, it was not much light but could
be a contributing factor SO I will remove that variable this grow

More Details

My soil Bin is off the ground, inside (down stairs, cement floors) sitting atop
2 chairs. I have 3 corded temp gauges in the soil to monitor temp. Mostly Always
between 72 and 77f usually around the 75 to 77 and at worst on the hottest days
I have seen 79 tops, at that point I crack open the lid to reduce the heat.

Have to check my notes now that I think about it I believe the soil got into
the low 80's when I started the process.

BTW the 3 temp cords are positioned one at top of soil, one in middle of soil
and one at bottom of soil.
Your soil is just fine in that environment. No problem at all.

EVEN MORE DETAILS

These are the actual bags I used for my soil ingredients.
Also I believe Doc asked about the latest ingredients so I
included the back of label showing this

Sorry guys you may be sorry you asked for Details

Exactly what I use. For years.

Just Noticed the printed NOTE at the
bottom of this picture.

Looks like there is an "EXPIRATION NOTICE" Good for 2 years only

Could be a problem in the Big Garden centers. Considering it could be in the warehouse for some time
and than on the shelf for a length of time, Combined with the fact we don't use it right away.

Just another observation that could be an issue

EDIT: We should also be aware of possable contamination to the HP
Look the bag over for Holes and bag Rips OR re-taped THIS could
allow access of non wanted liquids accidentally spilled on the lot either
in shipping or at the store

I think the promo was probably fine. There plenty of my co in the kit.

Could you tell me about your lights again?

What's the best before date on the soil?
Mine had one printed on the plastic wrap

I remember seeing the "best before" date once but did not see it
on this package.

Kinda of miss information, or Fake News if you will. If the Mycro is
only good for 2 years THATS it, not good anytime after.

What I want or would like to see on the package is the MANUFACTURE DATE
since thats what they are using to calculate its usefull use.

Sure

IN VEG
I run ONE 400w MH & NINE T5 2 foot single bulb fixtures
TOTAL 616W

5 are HORTILUX PowerVEG Full Spectrum + UV A & B
2 at top, 1 on each side AND 1 at back
(side and back lighting T5's are set under the canopy)
The remaining T5's are
2 HORTILUX Power VEG 420 Spectrum & 2 HORTILUX Power VEG 460 Spectrum at top

The T5s at the TOP are on either side (Left & right) of the Hood and angled towards the plants

The Hood is Sealed and Air cooled, the air is sucked through a 12 inch (length) Carbon filter
with an additional in-line fan positioned before the Hood and my Exhaust at the other
end all being released to the outside of tent

FLOWER
I use 400w HPS along with the same T5's but the 4 spectrum bulbs are changed
to TWO 633 Spectrum & TWO 660 Spectrum bulbs

ADDITIONALY
lights are set at a minimum of 18 inches above
Side lighting is closer but again under the canopy
I remove (turn off ) the side lighting in early veg

EDIT: The lighting mixture is the recommended
numbers by HORTILUX. that is 1 full spectrum UV
to each single 420 & 460 spectrum bulb (I do
have one extra UV in there)

EDIT: EDIT: I also have the T5s set to come on 15 minutes before the MH/HPS
and off 15 minutes after. No idea but hoping the red spectrum staying on
15 minutes after HPS goes out could help put them to sleep, Not
the exact spectrum (633 & 660) for that but don't think it can hurt

BTW This is the listed spectrum supposedly produced with the 8 Flower Bulb mix

The Veg Spectrum

The suggested VEG formula produces a large amount of blue light spectrum to enhance the vegetative growth cycle. The combination of the FS+UV, 420 & 460 provides the most vegetative focused light spectrum on the market.

OK just checked my soil bin and it looks like I have just a little more
than enough for one 7 gal pot.

I want to run at least 2.

Should have enough to start two 1 gal plastic pots with enough
for one 7gal plastic finish pot when ready to up-pot

This means I need to cook some more soil, No problem have
all the necessary kit ingredients.

What I will need to do is start a new batch of soil so I
will have enough for my second 7 gal plastic when the time comes.

One (our control pot) will be using all the same 1st run soil and
seed as my previous attempt.

Thinking ahead I will need to delay the start for 2 weeks so
the new batch will be ready when I need it.

Again I will still be running the 1 using all Plastic
and Same seed batch, this should help me see the
difference when using PLASTIC as opposed to Fabric

I'm excited for you. This will be fun. Please send me an invitation so I don't miss it. I have a ton of projects lined up, but I'll set some aside to ride along as a silent passenger.

I can't think of a better resolution to the confusion we were all feeling just hours ago. I love this community. :circle-of-love:

I'm thinking about popping some seeds right along with you.

You got it SweetS Will be Very happy to have you along even if only as a silent partner :thumb:
but hoping you can find sometime to jump in every now and then we need your input

You guys are discussing the finer details of what to do from start. I think this info should be in the thread Gazoo, perhaps you should go ahead and start it.

Thanks overlord

Yes I agree it should be part of the journal just did not want to start it to early
and have it sit ideal. I am however planning on including all this pre-grow information
and hopefully have it organized in an easy to follow order

This is really going to be a great Learning experience for Me and hopefully for other new
kit users. I mean really what more could I ask for personnel guidance form the Kit designer himself.
Feels like I hit the lotto

Great morning to ya Gazoo! So happy ya got Doc. riding shotgun for ya. Should be very cool to see Doc's. seeds working the soil right along side yours. I'm gonna tag along , once you get moving with it. Thanks for all your input these past few days on my journal . I'm very close to starting my next batch too,...may wanna start at same time. Mine will be in first run too. Although i suspect this next grow to be problem free, it will still be nice to compare growth rates , health etc. Have a great Sat. my friend!:high-five:
