In The Lab

Hey , no worries...you did NOT make a mistake OK. Those bigger pots will serve you well and you WILL learn to love them , trust me. Your plants will thank me , wait , i can hear them calling me now....they're sayin ," thanks so much Duggs , now we can 'play' and have more fun with more dirt". As Doc just said too, your first DBHBB crop is going to please you....a lot!:)Cheers eh. Now that you have two kits ordered , you can do as i do , always have a kit 'cooking' and one 'in use' Ok , that way you will always be 'ready' . Two kits in rotation is absolutely the best way , for us smallish growers anyway:):circle-of-love:

I agree. I will be mixing up the final bit of my 2nd kit of soil today or tomorrow. This is for a 4 10-gal pots in flower and 4 10-gal pots in veg, graduating 2 pots into flower 2 every 4-5 weeks.

OttowaGreen,

A 2x4' veg area is possibly too small.

I first had an 8x8' veg area for a 4x8' flower room, but I only used about 4x5' of the veg area for plants.

I currently have a 2.5x4' veg table for a 4x6' flower area. The veg area is too crowded - I will be expanding it soon.

I'm going to do the best I can with it, have to draw the line somewhere ;-)

My bloom Cabinet is only 2x6 so I don't need to supply nearly as much plant square footage as you...

You have 32 square feet in bloom that was being supplied by 20 square feet (4x5). So your veg room is just under two third the size. I am doing 12 square feet bloom and 8 square feet veg, so 2/3 vege sze, or same veg ratio as you have...

The only problem will be to fit four 16" pots in the 2x4 veg cabinet, but after perpetual gets going should hopefully not need more than 3 full sized 10 gallon in there at a time. Does ha make sense? I could fill my basement with plants too, but like I said I want to do what I can with what I have. Plus it is just for personal, I already have way more than I need, I don't need commercial production levels some of you have ;-

If you veg in 1 gallon size like I recommend, you should be just fine.

So you don't move to the ten gallon until bloom? Right from one gallon veg to 10 gallon bloom? Ok noted.

Thanks so much for taking the guesswork out of this. 15 years ago when I started I mostly had to learn on my own for hydro, glad I don't have to do that for high brix organic too, less wasted time and money and less problems that way.

Yeah, pretty awesome isn't it.

:high-five:

Yep....I go right from 1's to 7's....or to 10's or 15's.....doesn't matter. Just make sure you do the wet/dry cycles and build a good rootball.

OG, and the beauty of going into the tens, is that if you wanna veg them for another couple weeks , just to get them really motoring , then all that soil will be able to keep up , no probs, got it. See what i mean,..already the big pots have an advantage. I do as Doc says but with these pots being so large , i can afford to get them nice and big before i flip them . It really depends on how much soil your working with and how big you wanna veg/grow them and how much space you have to work with. Anyhow , it'l all come together , cheers OG, Doc and gang...:high-five:

I do similar. I veg in 3'x5' veg cabinet and flower in a 4'x4' tray. Thing is, I usually only run 4 plants...sometimes 2. Right now I'm doing a perpetual and an 8-week veg period makes for some nice finishing plants.

If you veg in 1 gallon size like I recommend, you should be just fine.

Mine run 5-6 weeks in the 1 gal then I upcan to 10's for 2 weeks then they go into the tray. The 2 weeks they get in the 10's before flip really allows them to dig their toes in, but you can also go into 10's and flip right away. The only problem I have there is my veg cabinet isn't big enough for 4 10 gal pots so I do 2-plant rotations right now. I get about an ounce more dried flowers per plant than I did before (thanks to more light available per plant and the 2 weeks in 10's) and I still have a little room in the flower tray for the odd varietal.

This method allows me to keep the clone dome in the same veg cabinet too. I usually take 6 clones at a time and end up tossing 2 or 3 of them.

So what do true leaves mean exactly? Is it five sets of five? So can I possible have 8 sets of leaves but they should have at least 5 fingers on ea leaf, so to speak?

Started my journal:

OG's Hi Brix Organic - LEDs - Perpetual Harvest

Just waiting for doc's kits to make it out of Canada customs. Our stupid customs guys have had them for 2.5 days!

OG, just so ya know , OK,...i have always received Doc's stuff , no problem. Sometimes they hold it for a day or two, but it ALWAYS arrives, no problem. Like Doc said there...depends how much beer and bacon the customs guys have been into... Cheers OG.

I interpret that to mean 5 pairs of leaves, not counting the first pair of cotyledon leaves.

This seedling has 2 sets of true leaves - not counting the little oval cotyledon leaves at the bottom.

This seedling has the first set of true leaves just emerging - you don't count the oval leaves.

A true set is 3+ fingers on the leaf ✌️

A true node has a set above and below it, so node 1 has a set of 3 below it, node 2 has 2 sets, etc

First smooth set is cotyledon, it's a part of nutrient reserve that is formed in the seed, which provides all the seedling needs for the first week of life or so.
