Update time:
Flowering Day 27 of the Gods Gift Seed project.
So overall I couldn't be happier on how things are going in this project so far. (knock on wood). The Gods Gift plants are extremely easy to grow and happy as ever.
In case anyone was wondering what I am using nutrient wise on this grow, I am keeping it fairly simple and mostly synthetic as its easier to keep a batch of nutrients stable. When I was feeding with bottled organics, it was very tricky to time the PH rise without using PH adjusters, with the time the plants needed water. Since this is for seeds and not for smoking I figured why not make it easy on myself. If I was smoking it primarily, then I would be using mostly organic nutrients/natural.
So what I am using:
The soil is mostly EB Stone Recipe 420 with a little leftover promix HP in it. I didn't really amend the soil at all this run so its pretty much as it comes out of the bag.
The nutrients I am using for flowering are:
Fox Farm Tiger Bloom
Fox Farm Big Bloom
Mammoth P (microbes)
Botanicare Cal/Mag+
Bio-Cozyme (enzymes)
Bushdoctor (microbes/bacteria..etc)
humic acid (humbold nutrients)
Occasionally I will add some Earthjuice to this blend above but I'm mainly sticking to the list above for these projects. Its just easier. LOL.
Removing the males:
I removed all of the males last weekend for 2 reasons. They were dropping so much pollen I wanted to prevent a complete mess so I chopped all the pollen sacks off and put them in a bag to dry. Also I wanted to see if I could only hit the females with pollen for 1 week and then cut them off so hopefully I will get more mature seeds and less premature ones. (lets hope). I then sprayed all of the plants, the tent walls with water to deactivate the pollen, and even used a wet rag and wiped down the LED lights, cords and pretty much anything else that I could see to get any extra pollen off.
My plastic bag aka No Seed Experiment:
So this time around I wanted to try something out to see if it worked. I really miss smoking my own cannabis since I've been doing these seed projects, and the leftover flower after deseeding has so many premature seeds I can never get enough of them out to make the smoke even smokable..Therefore this time I decided to place a plastic sandwhich bag on a single top/branch on each of the gods gift females, and the black diamond og x black cherry soda (reversed) plant. I did this way back when the males first started to develop pollen sacks and placed the bags over the buds, and tried to close them off slightly, but left them fairly open to let good air exchange so I didn't develop mold, but still managed to keep pollen out.
When I spread the pollen from the males, I was not at all careful, I let the pollen fly. (and it got everywhere including the tops of my lights. It seemed like the bags worked as while the flowers outside the bags were all showing the pistils turn red/brown and shrivel up (happens when pollen is accepted by the female) and the flowers in the bag were mostly if not all white. The one issue that did happen is moisture still did develop in the very top of the bag, therefore I had to make sure every few days the bud was not directly touching the top of the bag so the moisture would cling to the bag and drip off.
So fast forward to where I left off above. After I removed the mails and sprayed down the tent, I carefully removed the plastic sandwich bags and let the buds breath. I took a look and most of the pistils are still white, and I didn't see any visible seeds developing.... so it may have worked, and if anything probably limited any seeds that do possibly develop. Lets hope that the results in the end are good, but so far so good! Makes me happy
Here are the 3 buds that were covered with bags:
So other than that I have not done much with the girls other than making sure that I continue to tie up the branches that fall, and move around the plants slightly to maximize their light exposure.
The Gods Gift strain plant phenotypes:
So as I mentioned earlier, the Gods Gift plants truly have a perfect name for them, as they are extremely simple to grow, and so far needing very little care at all. Both phenotypes are very similar in size of the buds developing, and trichome development is about average for the time in flowering. Pheno 4 does slightly resemble the GDP parental line in bud structure and also branching and terp profile, where Pheno 7 slightly is leaning more toward the OG Kush parental line in bud shape and leaf ratio, terps and growth/branching. The terps are still fairly light, so its hard to get a really good whiff of whats at store, but pheno 4 does seem to have more GDP/grape/berry smell with a sharp kush compliment, where pheno 7 has defintely more of a general kush type smell to it, with much less berry. Very interesting that each one leans towards a different parent. Wish I would have gotten at least 1 more female in the batch to compare but no doubt happy and very humbled to have these in my garden.
Other than that, not much else to report on so here are some pics
