Icemud's Breeding Projects And Motherchucking Pollination Extravaganza

Nice looking plants. GL with the seed project looks like you're going to have a bunch of seed.

Black Market weed pretty decent around my neck of the woods. Free delivery and good selection no ID required only cause I already know them. lol

Thank you Bobrown! I'm definitely hoping for a ton of seed, as I definitely like Gods Gift so really excited about this one :) I think it will make some excellent crosses with my "in house" mothers.

Yea I'm thankful for the black market.. I mean thats where this all started anyways so I'm happy people still make their ends meet financially by sayings screw regulations and government greed/taxes and doing it the old fashion way :) As much as I like to see weed legal for recreation, unfortunately greed made an unfair playing field for only those "pay to play" operators who have huge financial backing while screwing the little guys who really were the ones who kept this industry going for decades. As long as the black market growers are growing good weed and not spraying harmful pesticides on the product I cheer for them :) and support them :)

Good that you have some good deliveries by you.. I definitely have a few by me that are good.

I also don't like having to show my "information" when going to legal dispensaries... I know that for medical patients in California, your information including drivers license is actually required to be stored by the dispensary for 7 years, and it accessible to any city, county or state official who requests it as long as the request has something to do with a cannabis regulation.. Pretty much leaving it open to anything. I don't like that as being on "a list" can actually remove your 2nd Amendment rights and who knows what else it could effect down the line.. ... Such as.. what if your medical insurance provider gets access and then charges a higher rate because you are "high risk", or you get worse interest rates on loans because your loan agent finds out you use cannabis... or... ??? Thats why I prefer black market. No list, no information stored, no government involvement period.

Thanks for the compliments BoBrown!!! Glad to hear you have access to some good (taxfree) meds :)

****legal disclaimer.. by no means is this post an instruction or authorization or direction telling people to purposely break the law or not follow regulations. Peoples decisons in life are their personal decisions and my post has no bearing on their choices in life... This is just my opinion and is not an instruction to do anything unlawful... .. had to say it just in case... LOL.

Nice work on the "Bag Lady" method for getting some weed with your seed! :high-five:
With all those awesome plants you've been growing, it's crazy to have to go elsewhere for good smoke. ;)
Thanks Mr. Krip.. I wasn't sure if it would work but so far it looks that it has, so I'm super stoked! Yea I wish I had room for just 1 more tent where I could have a smokable flower project going on. I've had so much fun breeding though that I will probably fit at least 3 more in before doing flower projects again.. but who knows.. Maybe I can alternate too :)

I have heard of a few tsrains that get viney when topped. My Slurricane had thin stems and and a viney structure when grown from clone. I wonder if that was a GDP trait shining through. That would be sweet if you could get the GDP locked in in seed form. I had two GDP seedlings going and got one female from the 2. I need her to now get big so I can clone and flip and see what I get. Unfortunately I am sure i will not get any purple out of her but one can hope. If I can get a similar terp profile to what I had last time I will be happy.
I finished harvesting the 2nd of the GDP I had going. Both of them were incredibly dense plants. For the shit I put them through, the yielded well considering the pot sizes they were grown in (2 and 3 gallon respectively). I got 30 grams per gallon which puts that as a strong performing plant with my soil.

The smoke has been very potent night time meds as well. Not as knockout as my Afghani, but still really good. I think you will be happy.....at least if yours is anything like mine. Mine were definitely 2 different phenos though....one was hella leafy and the other hardly had any leaves and by harvest time she was ready for the taking.

It does sound like they performed well for you bud! I am going to hope for a less leafy pheno. All of the GDP I have seen has been on the dense side of things which is fine with me!

Hey Everyone... Update time:

Gods Gift Open Pollen Seed Project:
Day 42 flowering (from the 12/12 flip)

Well as of now, I couldn't be happier about how things are going in the garden. The weather where I'm at has been quite hot and dry the last few days (0% RH) so I've lowered the lights in the tent to 1/2 power for now as I don't have a humidifier or AC system, so I am at the mercy of the weather outdoors as my windows are always open when I'm home. I gave the girls a nice earth juice tea about a week ago which they seemed to like and yesterday gave them their regular feeding of mostly synthetic nutrients.

If anyones curious my general feeding is this (5 gal of R/O filtered water, 5 stage with 2 carbon block filters for chloramines)Rarely do I use the entire 5 gallons unless I'm doing a tea drench or near harvest.
To this I add:
  • 40 ml foxfarm tigerbloom
  • 20ml botanicare cal mag plus
  • 20 ml humic acid
  • 2ml mammoth p
  • 20ml biocozyme
  • 20ml bushdoctor root drench (or kangroots)
  • 40ml fox farm big bloom

I then get ph to around 6.4ish (drops) and feed the plants approx 1-2 cups of this mixture depending on the plants needs.

So the Gods Gift:
So I really like the bud structure of phenotype 7 which resembles more of a OG kush type bud where it has a rather dense pinecone type shape, and slighly less leafy than most other buds. Phenotype 7 also seems to have slightly more trichomes but not by much. Phenotype 2 definitely has more larfy/leafy buds but overall the buds are much thicker, longer and denser but very leafy. The terpenes in both phenotypes on a bud rub as of now I would give a 5 or 6 out of 10 in terms of terpene strength. Both phenotypes although very similar in terps do have some slight differences, but its very hard to tell. Phenotype 7 definitely has more of a kush/general weed smell where phenotype 2 has more of funk to it with a kush smell but also has something else I can't place my hand on..

So for terps and bud size I like pheno 2
For bud shape and ease of trimming I like pheno 7

Both as of now are just meh to me in terms of all the above traits. I definitely hope they come through more in later flowering in the terp department. I'm not displeased but nothing to write home about either at this point, other than the plants are extremely easy to grow.

The Black Diamond OG x Black Cherry Soda... Now this one I definitely am so far very pleased about, the terpenes have a almost Robatussin Cherry medicine smell, tart and sour with a chemical skunkyness to it... Very interesting to me for sure! The trichomes are looking fairly good at this point, nothing extreme but definitely looking good for this time in flowering. The bud structure definitely takes after the Black Diamond OG where there are tons of long curly hairs and very tight growth. The terps however are mostly Black Cherry Soda with a hint of a sharp dank og kush. Very impressed with this one so far and debating whether I include a clone of it in my Orange FPOG project. (i'm also cracking a tangie seed from my original batch of tangie, so if that pops, I will be using the tangie).

Other than that, not much else to report on as of now.

Things are trucking along nicely! It is crazy the difference in appearance between seeded and unseeded buds
Yea I am really surprised with that too. The seeded buds take on a "finished" look very early where it took them a while to start pushing out white hairs again... The unseeded still haven't even gotten to the calyx swell yet... I'm so stoked I'll be able to have some bud to smoke this round :)

Also, I kept the males in the tent a very short amount of time, so I am hoping for more mature seeds and less premature ones... if it works, then I may be able to have more bud to smoke than originally thought :)

I hope for your sake you do bud! It is great you are getting untold amounts of seeds out of these runs, but it really would be nice for you to keep yourself in supply as well.
I agree 420%! Seeing Brother Icemud producing all those seeds and no buds is like having $1 million in free Whopper coupons and no Burger King to spend them at! I'm hoping he gets a good supply of Whoppers from this round!

That's a fantastic looking bunch of plants. Great sounding genetics.

I've wanted to do some breeding myself, but my setup is a lot smaller. I'd only want to pollinate 1 or 2 branches per plant instead of the whole thing. I'd want more to smoke, and I wouldn't need hundreds of seeds. I was thinking I might try silver whatever to turn a clone of a lady into a dude.

How long do seeds need roughly to fully form? And is there a better time to pollinate? Like, right at flowering, or so the seeds are about done at the same time the flowers are?

Hey Lightworker...
All great questions!

As far as pollinating 1 or 2 branches, that would definitely still produce quite a few seeds for you, and will work quite well!

With Colloidal silver and/or Silver Thiosulfate, I tried both methods and had just ok luck at getting it to work. I think I had 2 of 5 runs actually be successful, the other 3 developed pollen sacks but no pollen. I decided with the lack of success using "feminzied pollen" I would be better off using just regular seedes male/female. Now with that being said, the run that did work with CS and STS, the seeds were plentyful and have produced some very fine plants. With CS and STS, you don't want to smoke any of the plant you spray (from what I have read), so you will basically have to find 1 plant which will be the reversed plant and then goes into the trash after you get the pollen.

The time for seeds to form, I don't know exactly, however generally here is my timeline. Generally right around 14-20 days after the flip is when all of the females start showing flowers, and around the same time the pollen starts dropping. I usually run my plants about 72 days max to ensure most of the strains are finished. So with that all being said, I would estimate that for a mature seed you need at least about 40 days, but that is just a "best guess" based on the above information.

I don't really "time" when my plants are pollinated. I flip both the male and female at the same time and let nature take its course, but as mentioned above right about day 14-20 or so is when the pollen drops and females get pollinated. IF you decide to go the CS/STS route, then you will need to start the "reversed plant" about a week before the others just to make sure it gives appropriate time for the pollen sacks to convert.

Hopefully this answers your questions, but if not, or you have more, feel free to ask and I would be happy to share any info I can, and I"m sure others may chime in too with info :) great grop of people here at 420 mag :)

Thanks, that's super helpful. I thought I'd try the silver route on a clone specifically to turn into male just for pollen, then use that on the female version and others to get some fresh seeds. I like the female plant, so if I could get seeds of itself and some other crosses they should be pretty good. Doing the regular male route seemed too difficult to judge what's good genetics, cause there's no flowers, not sure about smell, they usually look different, so which one to choose? Sadly I don't currently have the space to grow out a bunch and pick the best.

How many plants did you go through before you decided on a male?

Currently got a Green Crack, Blueberry, Blueberry x Cinderella 99, and CBD Hash Plant going. I was thinking of silver balling a Blueberry clone to dust the others with. I've got a few regulars I'd like to find a decent male from, but I don't have the time or space currently to grow a bunch out. I'm hoping I can move sometime in the next 6 months, though probably not less than 2 months, so I'll hopefully have more time and space then. I'll have to make sure whichever house I get has a decent garden area, and a decent size room to grow in. Was thinking I might be able to do one seed run to keep these genetics before I move out, just in case I can't take any of the plants, but I've never tried it before.

Sounds like you have a well thought out plan that should work just fine for ya! :) Kind of the same reason I started making seeds.. I had some clones/strains I collected over time and wanted to have seeds in case I ever picked up and moved, plus I feared if something happened like pests or a disease and wiped my plants, I wanted to have a backup... But after I started making seeds, I found it to be quite fun and continued :)

For me, my goal is to have the most variety possible in my seeds, so I don't choose a male and instead I use all of the males that pop up. What I wanted to prevent, was exactly what you were describing... I didn;'t want to pick a wrong male and "lock in" certain undesirable traits, so I figure by using multiple males, it will give me more variety to pheno hunt later. ... Now with that being said:

I have read (haven't actually done it myself) that when selecting a male, many breeders tend to pick the males based on the phenotype expressions... meaning that sometimes based on branching, overall health, size, shape..etc... I've also heard other breeders choose their male based on pollen formation, as I've read in multiple occasions that breeders usually will get rid of the early pollen dropping males and tend to go for the males that mature later. I've also read a lot of breeders will do the "stem rub" on the males to see which ones have the strongest odor and terps... Then there are the breeders who use science and DNA markers to pick the correct male based on a DNA genome map which spotlights exactly which "markers" or arrangements of DNA that will result in a said offspring. This is used very heavily in other agriculture, however I highly doubt more than probably a handful of people are doing this in cannabis.

I think your plan sounds good! I would probably suggest using STS (silver thio sulfate) over Colloidal Silver. STS seems to have much better results from what i have read, and also it requires much less spraying of the target plant. STS is very cheap to make and you can order the ingredients online. JUst make sure to also buy the proper PPE gear such as gloves, ventilator (n-95 or active carbon) and safety glasses when working with Silver Nitrate. Its some pretty harsh stuff, stains almost everything, has caustic vapors and is quite dangerous, so make sure to read the SDS sheets and understand how to safely work with this stuff. Doing it outside or in a well ventillated area is best, and make sure not to dump any of it down any sinks as it will stain your sink.

Best of luck! Awesome idea!
