Icemud's Breeding Projects And Motherchucking Pollination Extravaganza

Bummer that the seeds were not labeled with the full strain name. I have not seen a lot of people grow out hsi gear but I have seen him putting out new work in the last year or so, so someone is buying it. I won a pack of his seeds. They are apple something or other I think lol. They sound decent enough when I read up on them (what little info I could find) but I have a lot of other things that will get run first.

Quick update!!!

Happy Monday Everyone!!

I just wanted to report today that all 7 of the Orange FPOG seeds have successfully germinated and I have 7 happy seedlings looking back at me.

The Cannarado wedding cake s1 also germinated and also is a nice happy seedling :)

Other than that nothing else to report today.

Have a great day everyone'!!!

Hey everyone!!! Hope everyone out there was able to honor all the wonderful mothers out there today!!!

Orange Fruity Pebbles OG update time:::

Today makes day 12 of veg (from when the seeds were popped into the soil. I had 100% germination with the 7 seeds I planted which was really pleasing to see :) The FPOG and also the Wedding Cakes S1 seedlings are all now showing multiple leaves and starting to really take off with vegetative growth. I have not fed or watered any of the seedlings as they are still working on the water/moister that I gave to them the day I popped the seeds in the ground. Generally I only water when the seeds are popped and wait until the seedlings have completely sucked all the water out of their pots before my 2nd watering. This ensures a nice healthy root stretch and no hypoxic soil :)

The Wedding Cake S1 looks nice and normal and healthy.. no issues here.

The Orange FPOG seedlings however are kind of odd to be honest... definitely not the most pretty seedlings I've had... All 7 of the OFPOG seeds have grown very long meristems, longer than most other seedlings. They are getting plenty of light so I doubt its the light causing this stretch... 3 of the 7 seedlings have "collapsed" where the meristem was too long and weak to hold up the plant, so it fell and started growing along the ground. Very odd behavior. I took one of them and propped it up using a plastic pot/plant tag by cutting a "V" into it and resting the meristem on the plant tag. I have to do the 2 others tonight. The Orange FPOG seedlings also have some odd leaf formations, some looking a little mutated or something and also some have some discoloration going on which is odd because the soil is brand new and didn't do this to the wedding cake... hopefully the plants will correct themselves. I was watching a pretty interesting seminar speech about cannabis genotypes, phenotypes and chemotypes last night, and they have shown that cannabis can actually self repair certain mutations on its own within a few nodes growth which was pretty interesting.. Here is the video if anyone wants to watch it.. its about 50 minutes long but good info.

Other than that, not much else to report on the Orange FPOG. Just have to let them grow and do what plants do :)

Here are a few photos...

Gods Gift seed project update:
Day 12 Flowering from the flip:

Well I have to say, I am beyond pleased about the Gods gift project. This strain continues to be one of the easiest strains I've ever grown and WOW... the males have shown they want to stretch out... Over the course of the last week, the plants have almost doubled in size where now the tallest males are about 5 1/2' tall and have touched my COB grow lights and are still growing... VIGOR!!! and OG traits :)

So I have 2 distinct female phenotypes, one has lots of nodes and branching which seems to look much more like the parent GDP which has tons of nodes. (pheno 4). The other female definitely has more of a OG kush dominance in structure, where its lanky, long internodes, and very few nodes. (pheno 7). On a stem rub, pheno 7 definitely has a very pungent smell to it, hard to describe but very stinky.. almost like skunky, pickles and hot wax... The other phenotype 4, doesn't have much of a smell at all on a stem rub, at least I wasn't able to really detect any specific smell when I gave it a stem rub.... If I were to choose a female at this point, it would be tough because I really like how pheno4 is stacking its nodes, which looks like its going to produce some huge spears... pheno 7 on the other hand I would select based on the stem rub strength.. I'm actually quite surprised although in height there was little variation between the phenotypes, many of the other phenotype traits are completely different.. (different node stacking, potency of terps on stem rub, leaf shape, leaf size, node distance) all very different.

I have been really wanting to smoke some of my own home grown buds, but while doing these seed projects I haven't been able to smoke any of my own flower, as there are too many premature seeds in the plant material to even get a good hit... so on this project I have selected 3 branches (2 on the gods gift, and 1 on my BDOG x BCS) and I have placed a plastic sandwhich bag loosly over the tops of these buds. I loosly closed the bag bottoms leaving plenty of room for air exchange. My HOPE is that the bags will prevent MOST of the pollen from reaching these buds, and therefore I may get some seedless bud to smoke which will be nice to really get a feel how my BDOG x BCS cross tastes and feels, as well as the Gods Gift. I'm sure since pollen gets everywhere, it probably will still manage to possibly get into the bags as they are not tightly sealed (due to moisture) but hopefully if these buds do develop seeds, they are minimal and I can still get a decent smoke.. Time will tell :) Once the males spread their pollen, I will remove them as I normally do and spray down the entire tent with water... once I do this, I will remove the bags... hopefully it works :)

Gods Gift Pics: (IN the photos the plants look a little thirsty and saggy as they needed water... I fed them right after the photos were taken)

Looks great, Brother! :thumb:

Sorry, I could only get to my own. I'll try to get to all the others this week!

Hahah!!!! Great response!! Thanks for the kudos!!! Hope all is well :)

Looking great Ice, count me in for the breeding.

I'd go with the God's Gift. Generally, the consensus among breeders is to avoid hermies at all costs. BUT, there are exceptions to this. I think as long as you let any growers know the cross was with an S1, you're fine. Since true GDP is only available as a clone, I'd assume all GDP crosses have S1's somewhere in the line.

Is this true? I got some GDP Reg seeds from Ken Estes himself, sold from an authorized seed bank.

I think purple urkle was clone only but its crossed with Big Bud so it should be available in Regs?

Its been a few years now and dont see his website up anymore but it showed as the original GDP, now I'm just confused.

Thats good to know. Is there any issues down the line from using S1's?

Hmm never heard of issues with breeding S1s. As long as you do a pheno hunt, it shouldn't be an issue but its always best to test new strains to make sure.

If a plant hermied, I wouldn't want to use that plant to breed with but I just keep selecting the best and either clone for reversal, reverse the mom, or find two plants in the pheno hunt and reverse one. They will stabilize either way the more you work them as long as you keep breeding the phenos with desirable traits. Using stable parents I haven't noticed hermies in my crosses/self's but if I did, I would stop working that line. Not worth it for me to try and breed the hermie trait out. Fun topics you guys are having in here.

I have his Aliendog and bought his Alien Tarantula.
Alien tarantulas sounds great! I'd love to get Alien Technology to use in breeding.

Yes, to the best of my knowledge. Ken released two versions of GDP. The "original" and then "Ken's Cut". I believe he used the Purple Urkle (another clone only strain) and back-crossed the original with it to get Ken's Cut. They were clone only strains but some time ago he did a reversal and started selling seeds.

Im sure the Fpog will grow out of the lanky stage. Gods Gift has some really cool leaves on it.

I am so pleased with the gods gift.. really hoping for a GDP heavy terp profile :) such a easy plant to grow :)

Thats real interesting about the legend of GDP :) I too remember that there were at least 2 version of GDP that Ken had on his website at one time..

Here is a video with Ken Estes talking about the origin of GDP. From the sounds of it, he didn't "create" GDP but got it from "indians" from Northern California who cultivated it for like 22 years. I guess it originally, some of the genetics were rumored to be a purple afghani that was brought back from vietnam.

The story leaves out the rest of how it came from the "indians" and how it became "kens GDP". My guess is he either Selfed it, or maybe outcrossed it to another strain and then back to itself.?? I know Kens GDP won awards in 2004 when it supposedly was released but I distinctly remember getting GDP from a buddy who was sourcing it from Arizona back in 2001 so it definitely was going around before officially "released" by Kens seeds... I've never been able to really get any more information about the story. I've also heard others say on different forums and sources that Ken didn't make GDP but just recreated it and that it actually came from a phentype of purple monkey balls from what I remember reading.. but again.. all 3rd hand info.

One thing I know about GDP is if you have had GDP, you would definitely know GDP as it has a very very distinct flavor, smell and look to it. I think I probably ordered 3 or 4 different clones of GDP over the years and was let down over and over until finally I lucked out and found the real deal GDP.. I've held on to it now for about 4 or 5 years because I know it would be extremely hard to find a legit cut again in my area as its harder and harder to find clones with "legalization".. Man I miss prop 215 days... LOL.

By the way, I LOVE GDP!!! LOL... The flavor, the high.. great stuff! I still remember back in 2001 when I first tried it, I was living in the midwest and a friend of mine had brought GDP back from Arizona. I remember I picked up some and couldn't believe how extremely smelly it was.. and mind you this was 2001 in the midwest where we rarely got named strains and most of the bud we got was "BC" buds from canada which usually had a similar smell, but nothing like GDP had at the time.. Anyhow I remember I had packed a 1 hitter and was out behind my garage at the time at night and took a few hits. I remember almost dying trying to not cough and alert all of the neighbors as my lungs felt like exploding. Just as I was done smoking and went to go walk back inside.. I looked at my feet, and my feet looked back at me like almost like they were saying... "WHAT??!!" and for about 20 seconds I was in this staring contest with my feet trying to figure out how to walk.. LMAO. I was in such disbelief that I forgot how to walk that I instantly cracked a huge smile and was laughing at myself at the stupidity of the moment.. and that... was how I was introduced to GDP. LOL.

Here is my GPD in early veg, from clone. This clone I picked up about 4-5 years ago from a local dispensary during the prop 215 era. This particular dispensary was my go-to for legit genetics, healthy clones and the only place I was able to obtain a real cut of GDP. They were shut down shortly after and therefore I've kept these genetics alive since then. I almost lost it a few times as GDP really is not an easy plant to grow for me.. it gets very tempermental, vegges very slow, and needs to be trimmed and manicured routinely because of all the leafy larf undergrowth... but wow, does it have that GDP terp deliciousness to it :) This cut is also in the Gods Gift seed project, which will be interesting having a GDP x OG Kush crossed back to my cut of GDP. Very excited about it :)

Quick update for the Gods Gift Project: Day 14 of flowering (yesterday).

Well as of yesterday, the male Gods Gift all decided to start dropping pollen and so I started to give them their daily "shake" to start spreading their magic all over the tent. Not a ton of pollen yet, but the pollen sacks are forming quickly so I know within the next week or 2 these dudes will be definitely ready to release clouds of pollen.

The 2 female Gods gifts look healthy and happy and nice flower sets have now occured and they are ready to accept the pollen. All the other female plants in the tent also have now established nice flower sets and are well on their way to making lots of seeds.

Generally I wait until around day 25 for defoliation, but since I was in the tent anyways I decided to try doing it a little earlier in flowering. Since the flowers all have already set I figured now is as good as later so I removed all fan leaves on each plant under the 2nd and 3rd nodes down. I noticed that the canopy was full of leaves and very little light and airflow was getting down in the canopy which can lead to issues so I decided it was needed.

Here is the canopy before defoliation:

Here is the canopy after:

Quick update on the Orange FPOG Project:

All of the Orange FPOG have now decided to stand up on their own and no longer need to be braced up which is a good sign. There seems to definitely be variation in the OFPOG as it looks like there is a few with wider leaves and a few with thinner leaf blades. Also on the wider leave phenotypes there is one with very short petioles and the others petioles are longer and in the middle sized. I'm sure any differences will become more visible as they age. I'm definitely excited about this one now, at first I wasn't but I think I could be ready for some Orange terps again :) Too bad I didn't still have one of my tangie's going... I still have seeds from the original batch but no room for more right now :)

The Wedding Cake S1 is also looking good. Excited about this project :)

Here are the young vegging plants:
