Icemud's Breeding Projects And Motherchucking Pollination Extravaganza

The Apollo 13 F4 Project...

The Apollo 13 seed project is going really good thus far. I've slightly changed my feeding approach where now I am watering less volume, more frequently and the plants really seem to like the extra oxygen in the root base as they seem healthier, happier and frostier this run than previous ones :)

The Apollo 13 phenotypes all look amazing, and it seems that I have 3 different variations. 1 variation is tall and short where the 2 taller phenos are about 8" to 1' taller than the other 2 phenos. The 2nd Variation is with one of the shorter plants which has much broader leaves and slightly different growth structure (looks like a different plant) when compared to the others. This excites me as I love the variety :)

The Apollo 13's are building a ton of trichomes on their leaves and even stems. I haven't given much smell to them but I did give one of the buds a rub the other day and it had a very hard to describe smell. Almost like a tangy lime sweet skunky smell. Very interesting and pleasant smell and quite strong for this stage of flowering. So far the Apollo 13 strain has been nothing but easy to grow and beautiful in terms of structure and all other traits. Very excited for this project.

The 2 Male Apollos are putting out absolutely tons of pollen and I will have to give my grow tent a very through cleaning after this project is done. Both males are very similar in size, structure and pollen production.

All of the other "mothers" females of my classic strains are doing great, looking frosty, healthy and already showing tons of seeds growing. There is still about another month to go on this project so a lot of development ot come..

So if anyone was curious what nutrients I am currently using for bloom:
  • 5 gallon bucket (approx 4 1/2 gallons of R/O water)
  • 2 large airstones
Nutrient blend:
  • Foxfarm Tiger Bloom 40ml
  • Foxfarm Big Bloom 40ml
  • Earthjuice Micro 40ml
  • Biocozyme 10ml
  • Bushdoctor kangaroots 20ml
  • 5:1 calcium nitrate N:Ca 10-20ml depending on cycle time
  • Mammoth P 1ml

I adjust PH using GH ph UP to around 6.2ish (using drops for Ph which seem actually more accurate than cheap digital ph meters).

About 1x per month I have been replacing the mix above with a Earth Juice "tea" which is:
  • 40 ml of grow
  • 40 ml of bloom
  • 40 ml of micro
  • 40 ml of catalyst
  • 40 ml of meta k
  • biocozyme
  • kangaroots
  • humic acid
  • yucca extract
Each plant gets approximately 1 cup of nutrient watering per 3-4 days. (some strains that use more water get 2 cups).

Here are photos I took on the 22nd of January. I will take more photos later this afternoon when the lights come on.

Some very nice looking veg girls bud! Hope you can eradicate the gnats quickly. It is cool you are growing out one of your own creations for the first time. I have not heard of the Black Diamond OG before. It does not look like it is in your line up any more.

Yea I only had the Black Diamond OG for a short period of time (due to a mistake on my part). I flowered it once and it was a very odd plant for an OG, very frail, fragile and tempermental but short and slow to grow.
A nightmare in terms of a "growers plant". The thing that impressed me though was the super dense, rock hard stanky nuggets. They reaked like dank OG kush mixed with a sweet purple hash and packed a strong heavy knockout punch. The nugs sold me, so I kept a clone going. At the time though I had 3 tents going and too many strains and this one had gotten over watered and the mother wilted and was on the verge of death. I took some clones and 1 made it. I used it in my black cherry soda project and for some reason I didn't clone it, or if I did, maybe the clones didn't survive.. anyhow the plant was a pain to grow, but really had dank nugs. I figured with the structure of the nugs and combo of genetics it would pair well with the Gods gift.

Anything crossed with GDP I'm in for

Yummy
Yeah GDP is one of my all time favorite strains for flavor and love the high as well. It took me forever to find a real authentic clone of it (Many failed attempts) but finally found one and have managed to keep it alive now for about 3 years. Its definitely a finicky plant and tempermental. Hates overwatering, not a huge nutrient hog, hates topping and really grows slow. LOL. Super excited for the GDP cross as well. :)

Dang that sucks about the mix up, but it does sound like a pain in the ass. Hopefully you can get the same high on a better structure!

Yea, I do have more seeds and eventually I would love to pheno hunt them for a good solid female to breed with, but I figured it would be fun just for shizzles and grins to run it and see what happens :) definitely would be a close parent to pair with so got high hopes... hopefully :)

I got some seeds and have made more as well as many many crosses of GDP

My favorite is Blue balls...aka GDP x ACDC

I'm also liking my DDA x GDP cross a lot

I've probably made 6 or so crosses, and have 5 strains growing now I crossed with it

Is my favorite strain as well

Wow... I have to say I am shocked by the news Subcool has passed away....

I think probably 90% of us soil growers at some point referenced or used Sub Cools Super soil, or have grown TGA genetics.... Subcool was a cannabis warrior and has brought a lot to our industry. RIP Subcool you will be missed but never forgotten! May your genetics and supersoil live on in our community!

Update Time!!!!

Hey Everyone, I hope you all are having a great day! Today makes day 45 of flowering (from the 12/12 flip) for my Apollo 13 F4 open pollen project :)

So far this project has been really going well and I haven't had any major hiccups or issues which I am really thrilled for :) All of the plants are frosty, green and really starting to enter the "girth" phase of the grow as they really are packing on the weight. All of the females now show obvious seed production as they are all on their way to producing the awesome strains of the future :)

The apollo 13 has been really a treat to grow this far and has been an effortless plant to grow. I haven't had any issues with this run so I really am happy that these genetics I will be pairing with my favorites as the apollo really has nice structure, excellent trichome production and good solid bud formation. The Apollo 13 terps are very hard to describe but very appealing. Its sort of a lemon-lime mixed with a dank good smell which is hard to describe but very refreshing and potent smelling which makes me excited :)

Other than that, not much else to report on for this grow. I am continuing to feed them 1-3x a week depending on the humidity, strain and volume of the feeding and currently using a blend of synthetic and organic nutrients mainly due to the smaller pot size.

Well Here are some pics:

Update Time!!!!!

Gods Gift seed Project!

So the Gods Gift Seed Project is coming along quite nicely and I have to say these Gods Gift plants really stink! Already early in veg they have a heavy skunky/kushy smell to them which really excites me for what is to come :) All 6 of the plants are going fast, and have beautiful leaves, and are actually quite uniform in structure, size and development. Quite impressed.

In addition to the Gods Gift, I germinated 1 of my very 1st seed project crosses (black cherry soda x black diamond OG) and it now is vegging healthy and looking fantastic. Although I typically would prefer to pheno hunt a female before hitting it with pollen, I was really just looking to fill the space in my tent after the Jesus OG's didn't germ, and I think that the extremely potent and dense nugs that the BCS x BDOG should produce will pair well with the gods gift. Time will tell. This will be the 1st official strain that I've personally grown of my own creations. I'm a proud parent :)

Well not much else to really share with this project at the moment, so how about some pics :)

Black Cherry Soda x Black Diamond OG (A Muddy Genes Creation)

Hi Icemud, been enjoying your journal. I'm collecting pollen now and will be applying it in a couple of weeks for the first time. Excellent primer! Thanks!

Hey StoneOtter! REally happy to hear that my journal has brought you enjoyment! Let me give you a fair warning... breeding cannabis is addictive! lol almost as addictive of buying seeds... LOL.

Glad to have you along for the ride and happy to hear that you are going to start breeding your own seeds. Awesome!!! If you need any questions answered feel free to ask. I am not a pro by any means but have some experience :)

Hey Icemud just caught up. I think I read your journal when you crossed the Black Diamond OG with your BCS. Really shocked this is the first time your going to run your own crosses as it must of been 4/5 years ago? Looking forward to seeing how this turns out, exciting stuff.

Hey Lewydeville! Yea it had to have been at least 4 years and maybe more since I bread the BCS X BDOG. Yea its kind of odd that I haven't even run any of my own creations yet. I think its because I was so gung-ho on just breeding like a college freshman that I didn't even leave time for popping my own seeds.

Luckilly though I have a few close friends and growers that have run some of my creations but not the BCS X BDOG. They usually send me tons of pictures and give me full feedback on the final results which helps with my future projects. Really excited though to be running my own gear for once too :)

I wish I had about 10x more tents where I could have a bunch of different projects going :) maybe someday :)

I'm hoping that the BCS x BDOG turns out great and really hoping it leans towards the BDOG more than the BCS because the BDOG was so dank!

I'll say it is. I'm looking forward to creating something good for us one day. Thanks for the welcome!

Its so much fun! Its even more fun to share with friends and let them hold "exclusive" genetics that nobody else in the world has :) I am all about creating new strains and hopefully getting lucky at some point with that next "cookies" or "og kush" ...lol.
