I am always around your journals lurking man, no worries. Killer lights and killer bud, I can't stay away.

Haha :) Thanks JuanCarlos!!!! I can't wait to harvest these tangies.... still some time to go but even the hermie I pulled over the weekend is reaking up my house... In a good kind of way :) Should be some really potent smoke :)

Well that was a fantastic read so far, so I'm in for the ride if nobody minds...

Great job Icemud

Hi Icemud , great read , hope you don't mind me pulling up a chair .
I asked a question in one of LA's threads and would like you opinion .

Hi LA, if you could stick any led light in a 4x4x6 tent what would you pick mate .
Be safe .

I like the look of BM lights and price , So which one ? , The Xg 4 , 9 , or 16 in 4x4x6 tent , If you could .
Or maybe two Xg 6 , 8 , or 12 .
What is to much ? , i can't imagine The light with two Xg 12 in a 4x4 .
Or even four Xg 6's , if you could .
Be safe .

Re: Icemud LED Grow Featuring The All New Budmaster COB Technology - White Full Spect

I'm sure Icemud would agree, four XG4s would be a dream setup - plenty of spread, plenty of power. :thumb:

More smaller panels, spread out, are always going to be better than one big one.

Hey Arteekay!!! Welcome and definitely don't mind :) This grow will be over shortly but there will be 2 more in the same journal coming right up afterwords :) plenty of excitement left and glad to have you here :)

Hey SonicDlf! I definitely don't mine giving some assistance and glad to have you aboard :)

For myself, I typically prefer using PAR measurements over a 4x4 grid when sharing information about panels because it tells the whole story easily for me, and can give much more accurate assessments of a panels performance, however since there aren't any PAR measurement Grids available I will have to go sort of blind with my response.

Now my answer would depend on this question: Do you plan on growing your plants tall, or are you going to keep them short (such as a scrog or sea of green style of growing)?

The reason I ask this would really determine my recommendation. If you plan on growing tall plants, then penetration would obviously have to be larger vs a grow that the plants are shorter like a sea of green or scrog. Therefor for taller plants you want to use slightly less amounts of panels but those of higher wattage because they will offer penetration better than lower wattage panels.

The key with LED's as a general rule of thumb is that more panels covering a larger surface area usually is the best choice..

So, here are 2 answers based on your grow style.

If you plan on growing shorter plants, in a scrog or sea of green, then I would recommend 4x of the XG-4 which will offer a very even canopy spread and really be the optimal setup for your 4x4x6 tent for shorter plant setup. 4x of the XG-6 would be better for this situation but also is quite pricey, so unless you can afford 4x XG-6, then 4x of the XG 4 should be sufficient. (the 4 module versions offer about 1' of penetration at a 12" height meaning that to about 24" down they will be optimal, any further and you may see underdeveloped buds)

If you plan on growing taller plants (over 2' tall) then I would recommend, 2x XG-12's for the tent, placed side by side.

Thanks Graytail ! Yep, more panels spread over an area is always better than 1 super large panel :) more flexibility and point sources of light to get good penetration from angled light :) Thanks for helping him out :) appreciate ya as always :)

Ice,

I also have a question, and before I ask let me say that I know you have only had the BM lights for a couple of weeks. Would you recommend the BM lights over the Advanced lights? What is the benefit that the BM lights provide over the Advanced to justify the extra expense? I am asking because I am about to setup another tent and am wondering if I should spend the extra money on the BM. Also if it is BM, how do I order them here in America? I went to their site and could not figure out how to order them for myself here. Thanks in advanced.

Hey Bamalabrat!

Well as much as I would like to answer your question, since I haven't finished a full grow with the Budmasters I can't really say what is better. With this current grow I used the ALed panels for most of the grow and switched over to the Budmasters around day 30 so even though they are doing well for the remainder of the current grow, Its not an accurate representation of how the panels could do for an entire grow. So unfortunately I can't give you an answer at this time. On my next grow I will be growing some of the same strains with the Budmasters that I have in the past with the Aled panels, so my suggestion would be to stay tuned to the journal as I grow some of the same strains and that should give a good estimation of which one excels over the other. I wish I could give you an answer at this time but its far to early to give my analysis based on only having the lights for less than a month and not seeing their full potential yet.

By the looks of the website, you select the product you want to by by hitting "add to cart" and then after that screen go to check out. There are two pull down menus which you select shipping and country you are shipping to and after that you just sign up for an account and make a payment. I don't know how it works with ordering from the website since my sponsorship was a little bit different process, but also be aware if you are shipping to the US you will have to pay a duty tax. For my COB lights it ended up being around $66 or so that I had to pay for the import tax, so keep that in mind if you are ordering that they probably will be a slight import tax since they are based in the UK. I'm not sure if that is figured into the total cost though either so you may want to just call budmaster and ask them. They also have a "contact" option on their websites main header menu which you can write to them, or if you have a facebk you could probably message them through there as well.

Sorry I couldn't give a better compare/contrast between the 2 brands but its too early to really say much about the Budmasters besides that so far the plants are liking them.

Happy Holidays everyeone!!!! and Merry Christmas!!!!

This is going to be my last update for about a week as I will be leaving out of town for the holidays to go back to Chicago and enjoy some family festivities and warmth :) One thing I really have realized over the years and especially as I get older that the biggest thing that I enjoy about the holidays is being with family, and living 2000 miles away from them its really such a blessing to be able to spend time with them over the holidays, as well as anytime :)

I wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!!!!!

So for my last update before my trip I wanted to share all 3 tents and what is going on in them.

My 3rd tent/clone tent:

In this tent I have 1 of my tangies in later veg, along with all the clones that I will be running in my upcomming Budmaster COB grow from early veg to finish. Most likely I will have 8 strains going in the COB tent and as they get larger I may decide to flower all 8 of them, or just pick 6 and move the others to an alternate tent but time will tell with this. All of the clones are starting to take to their new soil, with the exception of the Black Diamond OG which looks a little shocked as its leaves are looking slightly abnormal color right now, but I know by the time I get back I will hopefully see new green growth, and if not I just will re-clone it when I return, since I have to take clones of my Ogiesel anyways when I get back. Other than that everything in here is looking great and my slightly older harlequin and blue dream are really starting to take off :) Since these plants at this time only need to be watered about 1x per 2 weeks I will be feeling the pots and if they are light I will give them water tomorrow before my thursday morning flight, but I think most likely they will be fine until I get back as there still is quite a bit of moisture in each of the pots. Other than that things in this tent are moving along in prep for my upcomming COB grow.

My veg/Mother tent:

In this tent I have my larger mothers and vegging plants and most likely they all will be part of my upcomming Budmaster GOD series grow which I will be taking them pretty much right into flowering. I want to see if the area 51, black diamond og, and fire og are worth keeping and since I havent flowered them out yet I definitely want to get things moving so that I can decide to either keep them or minimize what strains I have on hand. I would like to get my strain count down to about 6 total so I can do a true perpetual grow again, as well as start my seed project that I have been wanting to do for about 1 year now. I also have 4 of my 5 tangies in this tent so once my current tangie grow is done I will most likely be keeping 4 for the time being and getting rid of the remaining one since I only have room for 4 right now, and this also will help me determine which pheno's are the keepers by running them again in a different light type and really showing from clone what they can do. Since I know all of these are female with no hermie traits it will be a fun grow and I don't plan on training them at all, just running them as is to see how they develop. This also will give room for my more bushy strains that I have had aging and been chopping back every few months so I should have good amount of room to do all 8 plants :)

The flowering/Tangie tent:

Today would make day 56 of flowering and even though later in flowering, it looks like these girls may actually have to go about 70-75 days as they still are continuing to mature and stack on weight. I haven't seen a whole lot of change in the past week with these girls as they really haven't seemed to grow much more and only the actual maturity and trichome amounts seem to be changing at this time. I will be giving them a good watering before I leave and hopefully they should make it 6 days until I return. I am hoping that by the time I get back they will have gotten further along in their maturity process as originally I was planning on hopefully chopping them down while off of work, but I think I'm probably going to have to wait until mid January to do this as they are no where near finishing yet.

As for the hermie I chopped down the other day, wow, I must say my house smells amazing right now as the fragrance from the chopped plant is almost overwhelming. Last night I removed most of the fan leaves from the buds and trimmed them up a bit, not perfect manicure but more just rid all the extra leaves so they dry better and also fit in a jar, as while I leave I will be leaving them in an open jar to slow down the drying process since when I am gone I will not be able to control humidity as easy in my current drying box, so in a jar with a small opening I have a feeling it might let less air exchange happen but still prevent any molding or any mishaps. My fear is I just don't want them to dry to fast and get that grassy smell :) While removing some of the leaves yesterday I did notice that this plant had developed a few seeds, not many on the upper buds but a few on the lower buds so I removed the ones I could find and put them in a small jar and labled them so I know they came from the hermied plant. Most likely I wont keep the seeds but who knows, maybe I will just for some fun later on to see what comes of them.

Wow Ice, nine pages in already, hahaha! I always enjoy your very fair, enthusiastic, and concise technical testing, not to mention all of the bud porn! Life is slapping me around here lately and not leaving a lot of time for doing any daily reading on one of my favorite forums, but I fully intend on popping in to see how this is going! Thanks for your efforts!
