Introducing the new GOD-4 LED grow lights by Budmaster!!!

First Impressions

The Packaging

Yesterday I got home off work and saw a Fedex note on my door that I had a delivery, sweet! All I had to do was wait until 6:30pm to go pick up the lights from their local warehouse/headquarters which was a really nice touch since there has been so many package thieves popping up lately on the news and such, I'm glad they held my delivery and didn't just leave it at the door :). Time seemed to crawl while waiting for the time to pick up my lights, almost like when it was Christmas Eve as a child, and you can't wait to get to bed for Santa to come and presents to be waiting, the time would slow down to turtle speed. LOL

So upon getting home and quickly devouring a healthy meal of taco bell (yea I know its gross, but I was craving their strawberry starburst icey drink! LOL) I got to doing my unboxing video shooting (coming soon) and shot some photos of the packaging for anyone who was curious how these are boxed up when you receive them.

The box itself had been taped up really well, with nothing on the outside saying "LED grow light" so for those that were concerned with stealth or being discreet this was a big plus. The box did have a label with Budmaster LED on it, so for those that think this may be to "revealing" you may want to consider asking if there is a way to have it removed before shipment, but even with that being on there, it could really be any type of LED so for me and my care, it was absolutely fine.

IMG_20151218_193312.jpg

Inside the main larger box, there was a box for each of the 2 GOD-4 LED panels, with a lining of bubble wrap on each opening end of the box which was a nice touch to add some extra padding for those roid popping fed ex guys pretending they are the hulk..LOL j/k thought it was funny imagery.
IMG_20151218_193705.jpg

I got to opening the first inner box and again, bubble wrap lined each of the open ends of the box, followed by the light being surrounded at each of the 4 corners by very thick foam, and then a foam panel on each the top and bottom of the light to prevent any bumps or bangs from hurting the LED lights. Next to the light was the standard wire hangers, but the better quality ones that are a little thicker than some of the other cheaper ones I've received in the past, and they are rubber/plastic coated which is also a nice touch.

So for the packaging, very solid and a two green thumbs up :)

With our Osram Delux Gold (G.O.D) led grow lights we have truly eclipsed every other light in the cosmos, with superior quality German engineering these Osram led's really are the best that money can buy with many additional features that come together to bring a truly remarkable end product. Osram led's are made in Germany with the highest possible quality standards and controls and are all UL / CUL certified and have many additional features over conventional led:

200 - 300% more PAR output than traditional 3w led's for the same consumption.
Longer lifespan with lower degradation. (approx 20% output drop over 7 years).
Smaller footprint than any other led in its class.
100,000 hrs lifespan double the usual standard of 50,000 hrs.
Integrated solderpads for exact fitting.
Exact horticultural wavelengths guaranteed.

So upon inspecting the new Budmaster GOD-4 lights I was very impressed. The case design is very similar to the COB-X-4's that I am testing, with a lightweight but durable metal casing which is a triple coated steel casing which has a mirror coating and smooth finish to it. Lightweight but durable :) Plenty of ventilation holes are drilled in the case on all sides of the light which will make for excellent cooling, which is important for LED grow lights because a cooler running LED will last much longer and give a slight efficiency peak over hotter running LED's so a great feature on the lights. The only drawback of the cases is you want to be careful if you do any spraying of your plants as there are many ways moisture could get into the case with all the holes, but for those that are careful like me, I would much rather have a cool running LED anyday :)

Posted from the website
All Budmaster II UK lights are now 'Manufactured in the UK' by the Budmaster team, most of the component parts are made within a 35 mile radius of our base in Mochdre, this gives us an incredibly low carbon footprint and of course helps to revitalize British manufacturing and exports. Budmaster models include the following features:

Made in the UK precision optics
Deep penetration.
UL approved super tough fire retardant material.
1.6mm thick, aluminium PCB light engine made in the UK.
ISO9001 and UL certified.
Wago and JST connectors.
UK Made custom pin fin heat sinks:
Faster heat transference and removal.
Fan mounted on each heat sink for greater redundancy and modularity.
Triple coated steel case with 'Mirror Chrome' finish and protective coating:
UV proof, water proof, grease proof, no oxidisation in marine environments.

Each light hosts 2 switches which control the power, each switch operates 2 of the 4 modules on the light so the lights can be turned to 1/2 power if needed, or with both switches on go full power. Next to the switches is the socket for plugging in the power cord and the cord fits tightly in the socket, with no wiggle room or play which is nice for a good worry free operation. On the side face of the light, you have the Budmaster hologram brand sticker "yield ahead" which I like a lot, maybe because I aways thought holograms were cool but its a nice feature vs some others that slap a cheap sticker on them :) One thing to mention is these LED panels do NOT have a daisy chain feature, so for each panel you will need a wall plug. I talked to Paul about why they didn't put daisy chain on the lights and he said that they didn't want to have people plug too many panels into each other or plug in other equipment which could cause fails so it makes sense to me, and I don't mind having a separate plug for each.

This LED light is a modular build which also is a great feature to have, in case of something breaking you can keep on growing and just replace the part that is needed quickly without having to send a light anywhere and all other modules continue to work which is a big plus in my book. Modular builds are the way to go :) Each module contains 1 PCB board lined with 25 OSRAM LED SSL80 horticulture LED chips, a custom pin style heat sink, a high quality and quiet running fan for active cooling, and a power supply/driver for each module as well (accessible from the back)

OSRAM SSL80 Diodes
The LED diodes are OSRAM OSLON SSL 80 diodes which are made specifically for horticulture, made to peak at all the absorption peaks for plants which is really awesome. I'm super excited about using a Osram panel because the OSRAM LED's are designed for 100,000 hours of use with minimal lumen depreciation <10% where as cheaper LED's like epistar will typically get a life of around 38,000-42,000 hours losing about >20% light by that time so these OSRAM chips will last about 2 1/2 times longer than the cheaper chips which is awesome! Also, Osram SSL chips are some of the best chips on the market for efficiency and will typically put out about 1 1/2 to 2x the light for the same wattage use over a cheaper epistar chip, which really shows you are making the most of your electricity in converting it to PAR light for your plants, very cool!

GOD_Light_Engine_Explode_1_.jpg

The Spectrum:
One very exciting thing for me is to try the Budmaster Spectrum, made up of entirely horticulture designed Osram Oslon SSL80 chips, these lights not only are bright, but have a lot of options of colors/wavelengths dedicated to plant absorption peaks. By the look of the panel, and referencing the data sheets, it looks like each module features of the 25 total diodes:

god_absorption_small.png
GOD-4_par.jpg

The blues (even though on the Budmaster site it lists only the use of Deep blue, to me it looks like they also use 1 of the regular blue chips from Osram as well)
2x deep blue 451nm Osram SSL80
1x blue 465nm Osram SSL80

The Reds
14x hyper red 660nm Osram SSL 80
4x 634nm Red Osram SSL80 chips
1x Far Red (IR) 730nm Osram SSL 80 (very cool they are using the NEW Osram IR chips!) most brands use epistar or LEDengine.

The White diodes consist of
1x 2400k Warm White Osram SSL80
2x Street white which range from 5500k to 7500K. To my eye it seems that they use 2 different color temps, but its really hard to tell if in fact it is 2 separate color temps or just 1.

Details on the light build from Budmaster's website:

A2B Plastics

A2B Plastics have been a family run business in North Wales for decades now and we were delighted to find that they had all the machinery and skills in house to produce our lens moulds, end caps and several other items.

Medical grade plastics for our optics with quantifiable materials and rugged hard plastics for our strip lights and other items, they can do it all.

Fox Metal Design

Fox Metal Design based in Flint North Wales (about 30 miles from our base) provide accurate and efficient CNC and other metalwork services.

A wealth of experience and all the latest machinery give them a competitive edge and a great finished product, everything is done in-house so the carbon footprint is very low.

Mark Water Pumps

Mark Water Pumps next door to our base in North Wales have been manufacturing car parts and many other mechanical assemblies for decades now and were the obvious choice when it came to forging our heat sinks.

Excellence is second nature to these guys who have been providing parts and components to big names such as 'Landrover', 'Jaguar' and 'Toyota' for decades.

The quality of their work and skill shines through in everything they do and we were delighted with the end product they have provided us.

Marl International

One of the reasons we picked Marl to manufacture our PCB is simply that they are the best that Europe has to offer. With highly skilled and conscientious staff at every level of their business they truly work as one large family all focused on led perfection.

Every step of every process is documented and tested thoroughly to comply with ISO 9001, CE, ROHS and CUL / UL legislations ensuring a 100% safe and quality end result. For example every single board that is produced for us is then tested in a purpose built jig to ensure high quality standards and then each board in each batch is allocated and assessed individually before being signed off by an experienced operator.

Re: Icemud LED Grow Featuring The All New Budmaster COB Technology - White Full Spect

So after unboxing both of the new Budmaster GOD-4 LED grow lights I hung one of them in my tent to do all my usual tests and to shoot the unboxing and testing video (coming soon).

These are the photos I took after hanging both lights in my tent. I am still deciding how to encorporate both these GOD lights and the COB lights on my next grows, and I think I probably will flower out some of my larger plants first with the GOD panels, while at the same time running small clones/vegging plants with the COBs, so it will show the COBs from start to finish while I still get flowers going to fill in the gap between harvests. Strains and plant counts still to be determined :) This will all happen after my current Tangie grow is finished :) which should be right after the new year :)

Currently they are hanging in my VEG/Mother tent until the Tangie grow is done and I decide which route to go with the next 2 grows :)

Hey chap, our pal BID never got to use the GOD! :( He was sooo looking forward to them and was a massive advocate for their xg range. Yet he never got to play with what he'd been so keen to get going with! That's why I've always seen it as such a real honour being able to play with all their new kit etc!
Anyway welcome to the BM god squad lol :)

Hey LA,

I thought that he used the GOD's, but now that you mention it, it was the XG's. Thanks for the correction Budmaster Buddy :) It definitely is a real honor to be not only sponsored by Budmaster but also to be showcasing both the COB's and the GOD's, I can't wait to see how they both perform, and then after that mixing and matching modules :) so fun :)

Well today I was looking around the tent pulling off dead leaves and doing a little maintenance and I found some unfortunate news. The phenotype #4, back right plant decided to show its true colors today and I found a banana popping out of the main terminal bud. I figured I was going to see more before this grow was over, and I actually was expecting plant #1 (back left) to be the culprit, but it ended up being plant #4 who popped a nanner...

I didn't see any other nanners so I decided to not risk my other plants and cull plant #4 to avoid any pollination later in the cycle with the other plants so Here are the photos of plant number 4 on her final day alive. The buds still are pretty frosty and even though its not mature yet, I will dry her out, weigh it up and sample the buds, maybe even make some butter or other extract with my MB2 :)

I am going to keep a close watch on plant #1 since it shares a very similar bud structure as plant 4, and has hardly any trichomes still and no smell so I have a feeling it may nanner on me too.

Other than that, I couldn't be happier on how things are going on this grow. The buds continue to stack trichomes every day, and fatten up and the smell keeps getting stronger and stronger :) Its really going to be a hard choice choosing 2 of the remaining plants as keepers and who knows I may keep more than that, but only time will tell.

Today the girls were getting dry so I gave them a water of a bubbling mineral rock based feeding that I have had bubbling for the past few days. I mixed 5 gallons of r/o water with:

30ml of Equilibrium by Humboldt Nutrients
30ml of Bloom by Humboldt Nutrients
40 ml of Earth Juice Catalyst
30 ml of deuce deuce by Humboldt Nutrients
yucca extract
a splash of spinosad ( I noticed what looked like a thrip on my computer screen last night. I killed it and saw no damage on the plants but I didn't want to take any chances so since spinosad can be used systemically I added it to the feeding. Its only supposed to be active for 3 weeks so by that time the plant should be clean of it (even thought its organic and safe) it will still give enough time to be sure by harvest and the last flush.

Also in percaution I mixed up a foliar spray for high brix feeding, and added spinosad and sprayed my other 2 tents with vegging plants, but did not spray the flowering girls at all.

Here are the photos for today!

Beautiful buds ice. Sorry about the nanner. Wish you luck for no nanners on #1.

Those buds look like light sabors. :high-five:

Thanks for that video. Watched all 17 minutes and was never bored. Great job!

Hey Drcannabi!!! Really appreciate you watching the video and even better to hear you didn't get bored :) I sometimes think I talk too much about lights and should get to the nitty gritty instead so its good to know the video is entertaining :)

I'm glad I caught the nanner early, as I have done other grows were they have seeded my plants and ruined harvests so I'm happy I found it and got rid of the plant out of the tent. I know it still should supply a nice harvest and hopefully still smokes good since I caught it in time but overall it feels good to have the plants eliminate themselves from the picking, makes it easier for me to decide :)

haha Light Sabers! May the force be with you red-i! LOL :)

Thanks for stopping by DrCannabi! appreciate ya!

Re: Icemud LED Grow Featuring The All New Budmaster COB Technology - White Full Spect

Hey everyone! Been a busy gardening weekend for me but all things I needed to do. Since mid this week I will be going back to my hometown good old Chicago for the holidays to spend it with my folks, and will be gone 6 days, I have been getting ready and prepping for my trip.

Since the cuttings/vegging Tangies are getting fairly large and bushy now, they have outgrown their small 2-3 gallon plastic pots so today I took all 5 remaining vegging tangies (phenotypes #2, #3, #5, #6 and #8) and transplanted them into larger 5 gallon plastic pots. I did this because being gone for 6 days, I know they would have sucked up the moisture in the smaller pots while gone and wilted so this should give them some fresh new soil to indulge on, as well as give some extra moisture while I am gone for my holiday break.

My soil that I recycle must be extremely active because it was nice and warm to my hands when I was filling up the new 5 gallon pots, and had a wonderful earthy smell to it :) Over the last few weeks I have not only added all my culled plants leaves to my soil bin for composting but also re-amended it with some bio-minerals from TandJ, alfalfa meal, kelp meal, lava sand, green sand, gypsum, crab shell meal and some biovam (mycos and bacteria).

I will be feeding all the plants before I leave, with the exception of the small clones in my 3rd tent because they are just starting to root and I don't want to swamp them, and it seems they can go a good almost 2 weeks before needing any water at this age so I may just give them a tiny feeding to make sure they stay moist and mainly focus on the larger vegging plants.

Here are the photos of my clones and 1 of my tangies in my 3rd tent:
Strains include: blue dream, 2x black cherry soda, harlequin, fire og, area 51, black diamond OG, 1 of the tangies.

Re: Icemud LED Grow Featuring The All New Budmaster COB Technology - White Full Spect

Lol I'd be using em on half power for vegging :)

I thought about doing that when I leave for vacation. I pulled out my PAR meter and checked the PPFD of the lights in the veg tent and the plants are getting between 200-450 micromoles/m2/s-1 right now which is about ideal for veg so I know they should grow really quickly and most likely the plants that are in there now will be getting flipped to flowering very soon. Just have to wait until my current Tangie Grow is done, so I can move my other clones under the COB's for a full veg to finish grow, and this will open up my 3rd tent for clones of my larger mother/veg tent.

I may run them at 1/2 though while I am gone just to slow down water uptake so they don't dry out over the break, may even do it to my flowering tent as well as I don't think it will hurt having a lower intensity later in flowering. I actually had a grower buddy that told me he does that late in flowering, he either dims his ballasts or raises the lights up really high. Not sure why he does this but he recommended me to try it. May have to :)

Re: Icemud LED Grow Featuring The All New Budmaster COB Technology - White Full Spect

Hey Dankwolf, I tried to PM you back and answer your questions, but it says that you can't receive PM's right now, that they are turned off or something. Not sure if you knew this or not.

Here is my reply:
Hey DankWolf!!

I have been trying to correct the issue with the lower fan leaves dying off and I believe its due to either my overwatering which I am still working on, or a lack of nitrogen. I do lolipop my plants as they grow and most of the leaves will fall off when ready, but I also do a defoliation after the flower set around day 20 which I remove a lot of the fans that are covering the budsites as well as removing many of the fan leaves under the 5th node down. A grower buddy of mine suggested doing this to allow for better penetration and for the buds to get more of the light, however, I know its a debated topic and haven't seen really any proof of what is better (defoliation or not) so I'm not too sure if its good advice or just psudo science.

I have been giving my girls a lot more nitrogen this grow (the tangies) and have seen much less leaf yellowing and falling off as before, but still the taller plants have lost a lot of the leaves. I think it also may be due to a thick canopy and the light not being strong enough to get down to the bottoms, but still trying to figure out why this happens, as I see other growers who have full plants from soil up and healthy leaves.

Wish I could give more advice on this but still trying to figure it out myself.

If your pots are large enough with a good healthy soil then you probably wont need to add extra nutrients. A lot of growers using the "no till" method of gardening do this where they only add water for the entire grow. I haven't tried it yet but sounds like it would be an easy technique if done right. For me since I grow plants that are bushy and tall, usually over 2-3' tall from soil top, the 5 gallon pots I have them in just don't cut it completely through the grow without using supplemental nutrients. I'm sure there is a way that I could get it to work but so far it seems that around week 5 of flowering they always need a boost of some N, and with the LED's usually throughout the grow I need to add cal/mag and sometimes K.

Even if you lack most of the large leaves, the plants will grow. Ive had some ugly leaf less plants in the past where almost all the fans have dropped off and still ended up with some amazing buds afterwords so hopefully that gives you some positive outlook :)

With thrips, I've only had them 1 or 2 other times, once they destroyed my garden quickly because I didn't catch them in time and didn't treat them. Still ended up with a ton of bud and great smoke, but was a pain in the ass trimming the buds and killing all the thrips. I did a budwash just to clean off the leaves and it was a pain. Best thing I could recommend is spinosad, and I think you can get a bottle for like 10$, I use the cheap brand Bonide which actually makes good products for pest problems and is OMRI organic. Its called Captain Jacks deadbug. I haven't tried anything else for them though, and really haven't had any thrip problems for a couple years.

I know my mom used to make a organic home made pesticide for her tomato plants using things like garlic, cayanne pepper, onions, and other things blended up and sprayed on the plants. I would be careful with that though i flowering because you may leave residue and not sure if you wanna smoke cayanne pepper...eeeaaaachaaawwwaaawwaa!!!

LOL

Icemud, congratulations on being selected to test the GOD panels! They couldn't have chosen a better person. While we are all passionate about cannabis, your passion for grow lighting astounded me when we first spoke. And your willingness to help anyone and share your lighting knowledge is just awesome. You deserve it man, they couldn't have chosen a more impartial person who is passionate about lighting. Says a lot about a company when they have the balls to give YOU panels to test.

Hey JuanCarlos!!! Its been a while, hope you have been well :) Thank you so much for your kindness my friend and I am really happy to have been selected for showcasing the Budmaster Products :) I've had some great sponsorships so far, and some not so good ones, but I try to be fair to my fellow growers and report everything, the good and the bad, just as any of us would if we bought the lights. I love lights for some oddly strange reason, always have, so testing grow lights kind of fell right into my interest of growing Mrs Mary J and I really enjoy trying new technologies out, and sharing the experiences and helping educate along the way :) I'm really happy to be continuing my light testing with the new Budmaster lights and I hope you stick along for the show, because after this current grow is done I will be running 2 different budmaster grows in this journal. 1 will show the White COB's from early veg to harvest, and the 2nd will be some older mothers and vegging plants thrown directly into flowering with the GOD series. Should be pretty exciting to see how they all perform :)
