Supercropping: I usually take my thumb and pointer finger and squeeze the stem where I want the bend to occur. Older branches usually take quite a squeeze in order to get them to bend. After you squeeze the branch keep squeezing and slowly bend the branch down, the same way as the "fold" created when you pinched the stem. The branch will slowly bend and then as it gets near 90 degrees should sort of get loose as the fibers stretched in the stem. Usually I use a rope/string looped from the top to hold the branch at a 90 degree angle which seems to really increase the bud size on the lower nodes, as well as make for much nicer buds overall in shape :)

Why I do it: When the plants get too close to the light, they are at risk of bleaching which happens many times when a plant gets to close to an LED light. By using supercropping I can control the height and the canopy by bending the tops down allowing for much better light coverage/penetration by adjusting my canopy how I want it.

When supercropping you always should do this about 6 hours or more after a watering, within the next day or so. You don't want to do this with dry soil as the plants seem to be much more brittle, doing supercropping after a fresh watering seems to help the plants bend without breaking.

Happy Sunday everyone!

So just a quick update.

On the flowering tent the other day I noticed that my fire og was stretching like most ogs and actually touched the light the other day. I knew that I had to supercrop her, as I've done in the past with most of my OG's. So since the soil was freshly watered I knew that it was cool to go ahead and give her a pinch, so I supercropped the 4 tallest branches that are under the lights. The tallest one actually showed that it was getting too much light as the bud and leaf burned but I knew this was going to happen so it was time :) I used a packing twine/string for looping from the tent frame and resting the supercropped tops in, so that as they get heavier the weight will be supported :)

Other than that I gave the girls a quick feeding of some hydrolyzed fish, micronutrients and some bloom nutrients :)

Try supercropping it :) Its virtually harmless to the plant and I've seen it actually make for really nice nugs. I will post photos later of just 24 hours after supercropping mine, and the plants have already turned upwards towards the lights :) I have done it early in flowering and even late around day 50 and have had no ill effects :)

Thanks Arteekay :) definitely like the supercropping in flowering :) I may have to do more too since I see my tangies creeping up a bit taller than I would like :)

Hey Dr Bob! I've done it quite often in flowering and even in veg, works nice because unlike topping it doesn't stall out the plants growth, the plant keeps on chugging along, similar to LST. :) Usually its always my OG's that I end up doing it too, they always want to get so tall and lanky :)

So I was doing a little reading today and was curious about different plant hormones and I think I may have struck gold.. well not quite yet, but I found something that may have some possibility to it... jasmonic acid or Methyl Jasmonate. Its a natural plant hormone that is triggered during insect attacts or infestation that has shown to cause an increase in VOC, terpenes and tricomes, and when added with Gibberrelic acid they even saw a 93% increase in trichome formation...very interesting :)


So then I was looking for natural sources of jasmonic acid... and just so happened to be making some oolong tea, when suddenly I came across some information that methyl jasmonate is typically used with oolong tea for the flavors....hmmmmm should I pour some tea into my foliar spray and nutrient tea.... hmmmm well what does it hurt :) haha

So I ended up putting some oolong tea into my compost tea as well as adding some to my compost tea foliar feeding and sprayed my plants. Not sure if it will do anything or not, but hey, cant really hurt I guess either... so now my plants smell nicely of mint oolong cannabis :) hahah

I was reading that another source of the jasmonic acid is in sage brush, and that even sage brush growing in the same reletive area can effect the nearby plants through their sensing of the VOC's the sage brush releases, in the forms of Methyl Jasmonate...its basically putting out a warning scent that other plants pick up and makes them prepare for insect attack, raising the terpenes, oils, trichome counts and other processes in a stress repsonse..... very interesting stuff... so maybe even planting a small jasmine plant or sage brush in my tent might influence the plants.. or just putting one in the grow area during certain parts of flowering. I found on another forum that people have used a spray version on their plants and definitely noticed more trichomes as well as a better flavor/smell... since its natural I wonder how it would work for cannabis and enhancing the potency :)

So tonight I decided I was going to cull my blue dream..... a while back I noticed that in veg, it decided to create pollen sacks where I made the topping cut, and so I've kept a close watch on her ever since. Well I looked today and saw more forming which is odd for the plant being in veg, but definitely a sign that it has some tendencies to be male, and so I didn't even want to risk keeping it so I cut it off the stalk, tore the leaves off into my compost bin and disposed of the stalks. oh well, another wonderful purchase from those chinsy clone hacks.... man I wish I would have never went to them, I guess I will have to place my bets on the fire og and black diamond OG as they are the only remaining cuts from them I have, the rest have been discarded. I have to say the fire og reaks, and so far is looking to be a legit OG by the growth structure so I think I may have a win, dispite the losses, and the black diamond OG, we will just have to wait and see. It doesn't look anything like my blackberry kush I grew a while back so I'm not even sure if its really black diamond og but so far its flowering and looks good, so hopefully I get lucky and get 2 good cuts from the hacks... not all that bad I guess.
